I really loved the smooth movement and shooting of the character in this game. The mechanic of being in a certain area to shoot your weapon worked surprisingly well. After some time of playing, I found the fuel mechanic very tedious and never got more fuel back than I used myself. This means that it was very difficult to win the game even if I'm hitting most of the shots and avoiding being hit. The game would benefit from a health bar instead and a win condition of enemies killed or time survived. These changes would make the game more replayable and engaging in my opinion. Also, the fuel sometimes spawned outside of the map making it unreachable. Overall this was a good project with a lot of potential. Good job!
Thanks for you feedback! I’m glad you liked my game! A health system would really improve the game but the reason I didn’t implement it is because I had the idea of killing enemies from the range of the base and then getting out of the range of the base and collect it without a weapon. Because I wanted to make getting hit a little less punishing I decided to make the player invincible, but it didn’t seem to work.
I’ll try to make a version of the game where the fuel system works as I want it to, I have some ideas to improve the enemies and the balance so the intended gameplay works, but if it doesn’t then I will consider your idea adding a healthbar and putting a win condition with the time survived.
It's a cool game! Getting max fuel to win the game doesn't seem to fit well (at least not for me). I would have enough fuel to shoot a couple bullets, kill 2 enemies, and repeat. If I ever got shot I would spend a while roaming the map looking for fuel. I loved the variety of enemies! The amount of enemies that came out over time was good, any more would be way too much. I liked the concept of staying close to 'base' to shoot. It's a fun game, good job!
Thanks! I'm glad you liked the game! I was so concentrated on getting enemy movements right that the amount of fuel they dropped wasn't really balanced, so that's a mistake from me. I'll keep working on this project after the jam so I'll try to balance the game a little more.
Yeah! I'd recommend using art assets unless you want the challenge, I'm just starting to use art assets myself lol. But goodluck!
Such a great game! Although there is only the main character in the pixel art style, the figures do not interfere with perception.
Yeah… didn’t have much time for art
I like the idea. Bullethell games are either too open or too cramped but this solves that problem. If you need to dodge you can sacrifice your ability to shoot and get more space. There is a trade-off between the mechanics.
I don't know if I was missing something, but I can't seem to die or win the game. It needs a win condition or a score system, and also it needs a failure state.
I just added a description to the game, there I explain the main part of the game, it was at the same time you posted thisso it seems you didn’t see it
The enemy attacks reduce the amount of fuel you have and if you get fuel to the max amount you win the game
Ah I see. I'll give it another go.
