I can easily see myself burning a lot of time playing this game. Great work!
This is a great way to use the theme! Having essentially the health meter be a physical object whose placement on the ship matters adds an interesting dimension to the game. Rather than just rushing towards a health pickup, you need to think about the direction you approach it from because haphazard placement makes it easier to lose. The only complaint is that I feel like this game would benefit greatly from a more zoomed out perspective. There is a degree of screen crunch which makes planning movement on the fly difficult.
Great game! I'm excited to see if you expand on the groundwork you've laid!
A simple game with good difficulty
Great looking game and it's really fun at the start but then once you have a good gun setup then it feels like ages before the boss shows up. It would be nice if the gameplay was a bit more varied between these stages. Maybe modules could have a life span so they destroy themselves after 20 seconds and then you always have to keep building your ship.
I think if I expand on this in the future I want to try having more modules but they're easier to lose. Maybe taking a hit to one damages the ones next to it and then you lose them? There's a mechanic where losing a module detaches everything that was only attached through that module so if they vanished after 20s that would be a nightmare..... unless.... maybe it could only be for the outermost ones, so there's a motivation to keep grabbing pointless ones just to protect your good ones? That might work? IDK
Decent little retro game_like Galaga and 1942 mixed with a hint of Tetris. Cool 3d star background. Accurate for old school arcades, down to the font. Feels like I should put in a quarter.
The font is the default (and indeed only) one with Pico-8 but yeah, P8 is perfect for this kind of look and feel, even the 1:1 aspect ratio has an arcade feel to it. Can't believe I nearly made this full resolution. 🤦
Heh, yours was the first game I reviewed...I noticed the font uniformity afterwards. The more games I try, the better yours looks and feels. Really nice work.
I really like this game. It's short, fun, looks and feels nice. It's a clever simple little game that can be quite addictive. It's like space Tetris, I was having fun finding all the types of modules and its combination I didn't mind dying. Besides the enemies balance it's a perfect little gem.
My team thought of a similar idea initially, we changed to trains and carts. So it's really neat to see another take on the idea. Good job.
Really cool concept, my only advice would be like you said earlier to change the balancing. Otherwise though great job!
This was such a great idea. I think it just needed some balancing but the act of building your ship on the fly is genius. Honestly I am giving it full marks!
Yeah, that's about where I stand on it too — it's pretty fun if the luck works out right but I just didn't have time to balance it properly. Maybe one day I'll make a "full" game of it.
