I very much enjoy the concept that this grid based puzzle game has. The mechanics are strong and clear and well presented. But the mechanics are not presented in a fun way.
To me it feels like every level is more a mechanic that has been sketched out by the designer, then a proper level with multiple mechanics in it. The reason why the difference is so important for me, is because a single mechanic can be brute forced until you get your win. Instead of having a dedicated puzzle you have to solve.
As for the usage of colors. I love using the basic 3 colors and their mixes. But I very much feel you have gone overboard and created too many mix colours. To the point it is impossible to differentiate between them. At that point you no longer have a strong puzzle game which you have to solve, but a find the combination brute force. Which is not that fun to play.
To me if you would stick to more basic colours you could do more interesting things. If you keep it simple you can also do association by things to colours, without directly showing the colour. If there is for example one dedicated machine that just hates blue. The player will very quickly realize and learn that everytime I find that machine I shouldn't be blue.
At last I wish there was more Ork logic involved. Red blobs move faster. Yellow checkered ones make bigger explosions. And pink blobs are invissible, because have you ever seen a pink Ork before?
Golly this is just perfect. Great puzzle design, great art and audio choices. Congrats on submitting this!
Thank you for the kind words ^^
Great game! You came up with some really interesting puzzles. Some of them took me a bit to figure out.
The art style is great, I love the way the blob sheds its color when passing through those gates. I love how the blow disappears through the gutter at the end of the levels.
The SFX fits really well and I think the music is good too.
Congrats on submitting!
Thank you for the kind words ^^ I'm happy you liked it ^^
Very good! I like this concept
Thank you ^^
Thank you ^^ I hope to make some levels when I have time ^^
it was so cute!!! difficult at times, but I had fun!! especially at that level with tons of colours
Thank you ^^ I'm happy you had fun ^^
Unfortunately the controls didn't seem to work for me. I couldn't do anything. The game looked really interesting. It's a shame ;-;
Oh no! What platform were you playing on? You might have lost focus. Did you try clicking inside the game?
Yeah, I played it on chrome. I tried to click in the game multiple times.
Edit: I managed to fix it! It was a good game!! :D
I'm happy you were able to play ^^ thank you ^^
The puzzles in this game are great! You have a very good build up in your curve! I'm curious to see how people with colorblindness will react to this. I think you should maybe have a variant for them as well or work with some icons inside of the slime which they can use to identify which color they are! :) But for game jam you guys did an outstanding job! :)
Thank you for the kind words and feedback ^^ I think if we would add colorblindness support with icons we would need to find a way to cleverly display it to the player without becoming too confusing ^^
Definitely a very well done difficulty curve for the majority of the game. Then the last 2 levels come in and just hit you with all the stuff, once I figured out the base mechanics... and... thing, for the last one, it was pretty fun to puzzle through how to actually complete it.
Otherwise though a couple points (that I mostly mentioned) would be:
Thank you for the feedback ^^ I understand the points you make and will keep those in mind for future projects ^^
Very fun puzzle game and does a great job of teaching you it's rules and letting you solve puzzles very quickly. Nice job!
Thank you for playing and the kind words ^^
This was a nice idea for a puzzle game
Was a bit trial and error with some of the colour mixing (there were a few times my colour was similar, but not correct) but that's minor.
Great job~!
Thank you for the feed back and kind words ^^ I understand that the similar colors are a bit confusing and should probably be fixed with either level design or more details about the target color ^^
The game learning curve and gamefeel is really cool !
I also love the musics and the sounds effect you did a really great job on this :)
Thank you for playing and the kind words ^^
i liked it a lot! A very enjoyable experience in general! Visuals, gameplay and originality are very good!
Thank you ^^ I'm happy you liked it a lot ^^
Very pretty game! I love the art and the concepts in this game. Keep making games!
Thank you for the kind words ^^
Awesome game, speedran it and got a close to optimal time, let me know if you beat it!
Thank you for playing ^^ I don't know if I can beat such fast time ^^
AWESOME concept and great and clean execution! I dont know how you manage to create so many puzzles!!!! Congratulations, great job!
Thanks and glad you enjoyed it!
Art is fantastic! Wish there were in-game instructions or a sort of tutorial for the level reset. Music and sound effects are great, a nitpick is I wish the slime... squelching (? lol) was a little bit quieter because the music is phenomenal. Also the ink-pots of sorts replenishing color took me a bit to understand but that could be because I'm a fool, haha! Main critique is some sort of symbol for each color just to be able to be accessible for colorblindness and more levels including mixing colors to beat puzzles. Really enjoyed the game overall!
Thanks for the input! yeah, we forgot to put the reset on the how to play menu. sorry about that! glad you enjoyed the experience still!
love the concept but couldn't get passed the room with the color blobs on each tile. Still I really liked the game and your sound design is a banger.
great work
Thank you for the feedback and the kind words ^^
For that level the idea is that you can 'reset' your color back to white, maybe we should have included a level before it to show the concept ^^
I absolutely loved the music in this one, it's so well composed! The level and overall game design is awesome too, one of the best games I played so far for GMTK 2021. I really dig the main mechanic. Also props for the wordless tutorial. I couldn't stop playing until I was finished. Top marks!
Thank you for the kind words ^^ I'm happy you liked the game ^^ I'll let our composer know you gave them a nice compliment ^^
The first few introductory levels were really clear and concise. That was a really good wordless tutorial and I intuitively knew exactly what to do straight away. The concept is really unique. I don't think I've ever played a game about mixing together colours to make the right one before. But then taking that further and turning it into a puzzle is awesome. The art is nice. My only complaint is that sometimes it looks like I'm the right colour, but the shade is a tiny bit off, and I can't even tell by looking at it. I suppose there's no way around that, because if you actually made the shades more distinct then you'd be lying to the player.
Thank you for the feedback and kind words ^^ I think you are right that the slight color differences might be a bit confusing ^^ maybe when creating a level this should be taken into account as to make sure there is only a slight chance for it to occur ^^
