Ok, so I find the game to be a bit confusig, as there is no sure way to know how good your melody is. (beforehand). I think a game where you have to just get the instruments would be easier to explain for a gamejam audience, although this has much more potential like this. Dilemmas...
But the game looks and sounds cool!
I love the music and the art! Everything in this game fits together very well. The idea of combining the instruments to make songs is interesting. My only complaint is that there aren't more instruments and potential combos. I found myself picking a couple that worked and just rotating between them.
Very nice presentation and unique idea, but mechanically I had a difficult time understanding the actual combo system that drove the damage and combinations, and with the longer cooldowns, the game was pretty close to randomly selecting from the smaller list of what isn't in colldown.
Very original, interesting concept and great art. However I'm not sure if I missed any mechanics or if there's just not much game there. It felt like I was just randomly mixing cards and always doing more damage than the opponent. Maybe it's just my lack of musical ability but I feel the core mechanics need to be better communicated. I'd love to play a future version of this, though. The art style is phenomenal.
The graphics are nice and the concept is very original. I would have loved a better tutorial or something like that. It took me quite a while to understand some of the mechanics. Overall you did a great job for just 48 hours!
First of, wow, those graphics!!! They are so beautiful! The color palette is so well picked, the dithering adds a lot, and it is just a joy to look at. The idea is really interesting, and I feel it has a lot of potential. I was a bit lost at what to do, so maybe some indications would be great, but even if I didn't understand it a lot, the game was really fun to play, and specially to look at!!! Awesome job :D
THE GOOD (what i liked, and what stood out for me):
A very, very creative game with a nice mix between making your own amazing (sometimes monstrous) musical creations. I never know i could play the bagpipes and drums at the same time XD. I also quite enjoyed the artstyle, storyline/setting and the card-themed aspect to it. Being "joined together" with your enemy was a good decision! Enemy design was superb, I felt like I was going against a musician who really, really wanted to get laid by a princess and only barely managed to beat him.
THE BAD (what i disliked, the bugs, and other problems):
Unfortunately, understanding the game was quite hard, and for me it felt like the card combinations were completely random (apart from bagpipes and drums. DONT do that). The melody was also slightly dissatisfying, since the tunes were always off tune to each other even if you get a ridiculously high score such as 100+. Having some harmony would make things more satisfying. It would be a good idea to include some labeling to your UI, such as to that of the enemy or indicating that something is a "health" bar.
THE HARSH (stuff that would just make the game better, usually just personal opinion, don't take it too heavily :D ):
I felt like the game loop was a bit repetitive and a bit too slow, maybe make it so that you can deal more damage!
Hey there! Am glad you liked the game! about the harmony, you are supposed to discover combos that work together. so bagpipe and drum dont work together, but bagpipe and lute work together. so thats why when you make wrong combos, it sounds bad. also there actually is a health bar under the player and enemy, I guess you didnt notice that lol. Finally, I agree with you. The game feels a bit slow, but we didnt have time to polish and make it more fun so, yea.
"The melody was also slightly dissatisfying, since the tunes were always off tune to each other even if you get a ridiculously high score such as 100+."
Usually if you make bad combo tunes are off and you will deal less dmg but there are some high combos that have off tune but deal high dmg it may have no sense but it is better than 0 dmg after a bad combo
The idea is interesting but confusing. The presentation is fantastic. A tutorial or two wouldn't go amiss.
Great art and music. Idea is good but I don't understand what to do with cards with numbers greater than zero, I can't do anything with them and I can't figure out why.
Some cards have some cooldown after using them, so you can't use every combination of card every tour (that's these numbers)
Really interesting art style.
I love the artstyle!
Art style is amazing. Couldn't really understand how to play it properly though.
You shold drag and drop cards on placeholder to deal damage.
Try many different combination of cards, each combination is unique and deal different damage
I think maybe having more prior knowledge on what the combination of cards will do might have helped. Nice work, anyway! Very original.
The game is really good. I like the graphics style, designe and how well-matched instruments sound together.
I really like it <3
Love the style.
I did not properly understand how the instruments interact with eachother.
When you manage to get a good combination though, the sounds tunes sound great!
medieval friday night funkin
Very clean and polished. Well crafted art. I love the concept of baroque instruments. Everytime I find a game with a music related theme I get excited.
I saw art of this throughout the weekend! Really nice! I like it a lot!
The presentation of the game was very unique, but the gameplay was unresponsive/static and I ended up not understanding how to play
Very nice game
