A neat idea but it needs some work - in most levels only 1 or 2 moves were used and if you ever ran out you'd be screwed... which I believe is what lead to the really high amount of blue moths spread around... which then means that we aren't really out of control. Really wished to see more working around not having certain moves or being able to properly plan how to spend them.

I see loli, I click.

Jokes aside, I think it was a fun game. I definitely would have liked to have seen more tight puzzles. I played the game more like a platformer, and worrying about my action life bars became an afterthought. This is more of a balancing/level design issue. As such, there were times when I was throwing my grapple off screen to hit something, off screen.

I also felt that the grapple mechanic was a nice touch, but could've been executed better. For example, when you reel in it feels very abrupt, and has no audio feedback that you hit something.

Music sounded very good and fit with the overall art direction, but it most definitely is repetitive. It also doesn't help that it doesn't loop seamlessly, so it got stale after about 4 minutes of gameplay, probably less.

Overall, OK game. Needs rebalancing of action health bars and better level design to compliment it.

thank you very much for the wise input! this game was created by a group of 5 teens and this is only our first jam, so any advice is much appreciated.

Zenith08, who programmed the grappling hook, had a hell of a time wrestling with its code for a good portion of the jam. there IS audio for the hook connecting, but it is admittedly quiet beneath the overworld theme.

we will take these notes (especially those regarding level balancing) into consideration to improve our future work!

thank you for playing, and I hope you enjoyed the game.

funky idea + funkier music, liking the maze like design of the levels. took a little while to get used to but was overall a  fun experience!

Submitted(+2)

Yo, I love the idea of you movement options having their own health bars! The art is fantastic and nice soundtrack!

Submitted(+2)

Hey ! I like the movement restrictions, it's well thought. Also the soundtracks are beautiful.

nice game i liked the grapling hook

It did not scale to me screens resolution so couldnt see all of it which unfortunatley made it rather hard to play.

Developer

I forgot to tune the browser edition. If you're on Windows though try the downloaded version (link at the bottom of the page) and it might work better. The game was desigend for a 16:9 screen and other settings won't work as well.

Controls felt a bit weird and slow, like no acceleration or momentum ;-; Grapple mechanic doesn't have like pop you know, like it doesn't feel impactful, it feels a behaves more like a teleport. The sprinting having a secondary bar felt a bit weird as well cus its the same direction. Other than the controls, the graphics and audio are really really nice.

Submitted(+2)

Nice game mechanic with the bars and movement! If I could adjust one thing though, it would be to combing the sprint and walk bar into one, otherwise,  nice game, I especially liked the audio.

Developer

I'm intreagued as to why you say that. It was a deliberate choice to split run and walk so that if you ran out of one you could have the other in reserve so I'm curious why you'd suggest making them the same.

Still, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Hi! I say that because, in the end, both move you in the same direction, while other pools of movement serve different functions. e.g grapple and jump.  What I was suggesting was to increase the overall pool for walk + run so that that it is equivalent to the separate walk and run pools so that the player is given the option to run or walk at their discretion. To compensate for the additional distance traveled through running, you could make the pool decrease faster while running when compared to just walking.

But good game regardless!

I appreciate the insight! I tried your game and the presentation is cool. It's authentic WindowsXP.

Thanks!

Great concept, controls could use a little tweaking (add W as an alternate jump button, sometimes the grapple felt like it wasn't quite going where the mouse cursor was), but nitpicks aside, very good jam submission!

Developer

As the one who programmed the grappling hook, it was the bane of my existance for a while. It never quite felt right.

Thanks for playing though, I hope you liked it!

My team and I made a game called Stopn't , we should probably be friends

I tried your game, it's cool but I wish I could try it with a controller (which I don't have right now).

Still a solid game.

Hello! Artist Sunnyfriedup here. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who plays! I hope you enjoy the game. We certainly had a lot of fun building it.

I really like the feel to the game, and the music is absolutely amazing. But the levels seem a bit to easy, my controlls always got filled back quite long before any movement option was completely taken away. But overall a really good game

Couldnt get past the first spikes either

Developer

See the gif for an example of how I did it.

I loved this game! It’s so colourful and cute! I love the music and the character graphics are really well done! <3 Completed the game and it was challenging but not too frustrating!

Really cool concept. I noticed a glitch which seems to be preventing me from passing the first level. I grappled onto that overhead thing and can't seem to get down, not sure if this is intentional, or a bug.

Developer(+1)

No, that's just a bug in the physics engine. Shoot the bottom of the overhead bar instead and swing accross the pit.

great music, great art and refreshing gameplay that I personally have never seen before. I lreally like this game.

Submitted(+2)

Great visual but the gameplay is not too original

Submitted(+2)

Is there a trick how to get across the spikes in the first level? :D nice artwork and music (it gets a bit repetitive though). Overall a good job :)

Developer(+2)

Hi, the way to get accross is to use the grappling hook multiple times in a row.  As soon as the hook disappears you can click to use it again, keep doing this accross the pit and it will work. And yeah the music isn't long, but it's a game jam. That was just the reality of time.

Thanks for playing!
