Sweet another Pico 8 game! Love the music on this one, would be nice if you could go over your path instead of getting stuck. I enjoyed it!

Thank you! I think I'd definitely add the option of travelling over your existing paths if I release an update! Thanks for the kind words :)

This is really fun. I played through it several times just so I could beat it. :)

There are a couple things I can think of  that would make it much more enjoyable to play. The first is when I was doing really well I got ahead of the camera and I had to wait for the water to catch up. This felt a little obnoxious but I can see why you made it this why. Maybe you could speed the water up if the player gets to far?

The second is a quick restart button for when the player is stuck behind a rock or path and has no way of escape. Right now there is no option (that I could find) to do this. It would be nice for the game to detect this automatically but it would be appreciated if there was a button as well.

The art is very nice to look at and is very cute. albeit terrifying, if that makes sense. I'm not sure if you can do this in pico-8, but if you could make the menus a little easier to read that would be very appreciated.

The music is definitely a bop. 11/10 I would love to hear what a lava level would sound like. ',:)

Thanks for uploading a Linux version!
Could I review this game on my YT channel?

Sorry I'm pretty late in responding to this! Thank you very much for your kind words, and your thoughtful feedback! Those features you've mentioned are definitely things that I'd add if I release an updated version (I'm not sure if I'll ever get around to that, but I'd absolutely like to). You're very welcome to  review the game on your  youtube channel, I would be flattered. Since I know someone appreciates the Linux builds, I'll make sure to include them with future projects too :)

I thought this was a really fun idea! I got pretty far on 2 playthroughs , but they both ended due to getting stuck on a rock / my own path. But I had a lot of fun up until those points. Deciding if I should shuffle my deck so I can try and work my way towards a coin, all while the water was rising, was a really nice tense feeling.

I think with a few fixes and additional collectables, this could be a really good proper game. There's a definitely a strong foundation here. And the music is really great too, there was a slight hint of Sonic 3 Lava Reef vibes. Well done!

Thank you very much! I think, if I ever go back an release a version with some of the features people are suggesting,  I'll definitely make it an option to backtrack over your paths. I appreciate the kind feedback! :)

Nice concept and great music. Love it. Maybe add a indicator on how many moves left the beetle is going to change direction but keep it random. That way player can avoid getting suddenly stuck

Developer

Thanks mate! That's definitely not a bad idea :)

Pretty good game! Very nice mechanic and catchy music (especially the music). I would recommend to make the camera follow the beetle as if are too fast it become a bit boring to wait for the water to rise. But overall good job!

Developer

Thanks for all the kind words! Agreed, updating that camera a little bit would definitely be something I did if I had another day or so to work on this! Thanks for playing :)

I love this! Cool theme and runs with the out of control concept nicely. Only issue is the randomness of which commands appear, which can sometimes cause unavoidable losses, especially if the number of left/right commands isn't proportionate. Well done though, especially the audio having been done in the jam, as most entries didn't do that.

Thank you very much! I agree, some kind of system like modern tetris games use, where blocks aren't completely random, would probably be an excellent thing to implement to reduce frustration.  Thanks for checking it out!

This is a super unique concept. I found myself getting stuck a lot and had to reset, but besides this, I enjoyed it(poor beetles though..)

Developer

Thanks for  checking it out! I agree, if I had another hour or so of the jam, I  would have added an option to reset (or maybe backtrack?) when stuck.  Also, if you're empathising with the beetles that's a big 'mission accomplished' for us :)
