Well, under normal circumstances maybe I would agree with you, although I wouldn't formulate it as a hard fact :D
However the theme of this gamejam was "Out of control" and the game discription itself states that "Reaction checks and mindgames are the core components in this concept" - so it is indeed not a typical platformer.
Nontheless sorry you couldn't enjoy it.
Nice challenging game! It seems to me the "random speed" is really dependent on the location the character is on... right??? Anyways, I like it!
Well done on finishing your first game jam, and it's awesome that you are your partner worked on this :D
The character is simple but super cute, so you gain some points there. The central mechanic of the game is a little arbitrary for my taste and I felt a little bit too much like I had to guess what the designer was thinking rather than relying on comprehension of mechanics.
The idea suits the theme, but to a fault. I feel that with some feedback that provides the player with the means to determine dangers ahead of time, it might feel more fair/fun.
Bonus points for making a jump that responds to the length of input - this is the kinda thing a newcomer would miss!
Congrats on completing your first jam! I really like the art style of your game. And the mechanics definitely fit the theme. Well done!
Cool idea and matches the theme IMO. Has a nice one more go factor to it! I have a couple of suggestions though: make the player color a bit more contrast-y to the background because it's easy to lose it. Have a control key other than space-bar because the response on my keyboard was quite wonky. How about the left mouse button, or the CTRL key (ha!)? Finally, I couldn't quite manage to finish level 2. It seemed to loop in the first part of the section no matter what I did. I had to go to level 3 from the menu. :)
I like the idea, I think the theme is very well interpreted! I'm really bad at this game though, I've died so many times ahah x) Good job =D
Very challenging and fun game! It has a good looping to make you want to stay playing, only the jumps that sometimes seems that it does not detect that was pressed the button, but this does not diminish how much fun the game is!
It would make a great mobile game!
Very nice core mechanic and becomes pretty addictive! Art yet simple but cute and clean in its minimal approach!
I just wish the trigger boxes for the direction change were visible so you could predict it and have less trial and error. But I can see an argument how showing them would make it less "out of control".
I loved the gameplay, animations and art! I don't really mind the lack of sound but I know that if you add some sound, It will be spectacular!!
Getting all kinds of 90's vibes from the background! The play style started to remind me of the bit in Limbo with the mind control parasite (but much more fast-paced). Would have loved to hear a bit of sound; just throwing on some free music from opengameart.org or incompetech.com would make a big difference. Nice work!
