apparently there is a copyright symbol in the top left of the original level... was curious why the ledge went that way... cool game, would like to see the yoyo head move a little faster following the mouse in my opinion though

Developer

Haha that's supposed to be a coin but we didn't have enough time to fix it.

Thank you for the feedback! We will test and look into it.

Great work for a debut project! See how I got on below:

Developer(+1)

Thank you for posting a video about it!! You raise valid points, and are currently working on them. Thank you for the feedback!

You're right the controls are hard to get used to XD

It took some time to figure it out but it was very satisfying to play!

Good job this is great! 5 stars for effort!

Developer

Thank you so much for the support!! I'm glad you pushed through despite it being hard

Submitted(+1)

The controls were a little confusing at first, but I quickly got the hang of it. Really neat concept, great work!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! It means a lot to us that you liked it

Submitted(+1)

Controls took some getting used to, but the mechanic is really neat! Keep refining it and I think you could have something special here :)

Developer

Hey, thank you so much for the feedback and support! We are in the process of polishing it

Le jeu est cool mais pour se deplacer avec le personnage c'est assez compliquer je trouve mais sinon c'est un bon jeu dans l'enssemble

Developer

Merci pour le commentaire! On apprécie beaucoup!

Thank you for the comment! We really appreciate it!

Exceptionally cool concept and honestly a very fun platformer of which I'm not normally that interested in. As others have said, it is kinda buggy and needs some quality of life changes, such as maybe having the yo-yo rubber band a little bit closer to the cursor mark, and making the cursor and yo-yo a different color set to help differentiate where you are actually placing the your cursor. All the qualms I have with the game should be followed with my excitement to see more out of this game with the fixes, and that I have played countless early access games that are not nearly as refined or interesting from full studios of professionals.

Keep up the great work and I'm excited to see how well both Ralph and Sarah do in their future.

Developer

Thank you so much for the great feedback! We will keep in mind those suggestions, I understand it may be hard to differentiate the cursor from the yo-yo. We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed our game!

-

We are sorry for the difficulty curve. We added an in-depth guide that explains the character movement with gifs to better understand them. It would be very appreciated if you could tell us if the page helps!

This part of the description actually says to press the R key when you fall in the fire and die, so that you can restart the level. I hope this helps! If there's anything else on the page that you don't understand, please don't hesitate!

Hello! you played my game on stream so i had to play yours! Took me long, but i'm here

It is indeed one of the more original mechanics in the jam, hehe. In my personal opinion the mechanic comes to its full realization when you hook onto the ledges (like in most of the gifs). It is when it works the most smoothly and when it becomes the most fun!

Jumping with it is quite awkward. Specially when the line starts to not align with the yoyo and something in the brain tells me "that's wrong" hehe. I would suggest making it so the line always goes to the yoyo itself (unless you were right clicling, there it'd be like normal i guess) and add a hand or some indicator to where you are pointing. That way it'd feel more natural! Though you'd have to try it to see.

Reminds me of Getting Over It, with the whole move yourself by pushing yourself. It's that but with jumping and moving too, and it does work!

Maybe make the yoyo even more strong, as it usually ends up bending to the side instead of staying in the line. That would make the display clear and make it feel right. Hm, possibilities!

Anyways, this was really fun, specially spidermanning around. Only got one coin tho, hehe.

Thanks for streaming my game before! I'm gonna make a new build with stuff that lots of people said, including you guys! You were neat! keep it up!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for taking your time to leave a comment and the great feedback!

That's really sweet, the high praise really means a lot to us. It's really interesting to know your thoughts about the different levels/mechanics.  We thought that it would be easier to introduce the push mechanic since you would need it pretty early. We might revise that actually.

These are are really great suggestions.  We will definitely do some testing.  We have tried multiple ways to display the yo-yo, and found that this one was the best compromise given the allotted time we had. We will add many many suggestions in the next build.

I'm so glad you had fun! It was a joy to stream your game, I can't wait to see more of it!

Just realised, this was your first game AND you did it in 48 hours? Wow, you guys are going to do great things in the future if you're already this good!

Developer(+1)

That means so much to us, thank you for both of your comments!!

Beat it! I like this idea a lot, and it's very unique. There are some usability issues with it that if fixed could make this game evne more awesome.

The string not being attached to the yo-yo makes it quite difficult to work out exactly what it is that is happening. Sometimes the yo-yo phases through the wall and it's not clear why. I think if you made the yo-yo disappear when it wasn't actively being used, or maybe have 50% alpha, you might be able to fix this.

I couldn't quite get the hang of swinging, I just had to keep bumping against the wall until I finally got up. I think the best game for getting this kind of swinging feeling right is Worms, with the ninja rope. If the yo-yo felt like the ninja rope I think that would be amazing, especially if the string deformed too.

Example: somebody created this in Unity
All in all, great gamejam entry, I've rated it highly. With a bit more polish to make it "feel" better it would be even more fun.

Thank you for such detailed feedback. I'm so happy you stuck with our semi-functional game!

Both Sarah and I completely agree with all of the issues you bring up. At some point in the jam we realized that we couldn't figure out how to make the yo-yo any better and had to work with what we had. This jam has been such a great learning experience for us and all of the feedback we have received makes us want to work harder and learn more. We could make the yo-yo disappear and have a little animation of them putting it in their pocket and taking it out. Also, seeing that GIF of the string bending with the terrain makes me excited to learn how to do that so thank you for the suggestion.

An important part of a GameJam is knowing when to start cutting, and what to cut. I think if you had prioritized anything else than what you did, the game probably would've suffered as a result - so I think you made the right calls. You made something really great given the time constriants, and with a bit more time I know you guys could make it even more awesome.

What a hard game. Sadly I do not have the patience to get through it, but I can see the appeal in trying to get to the end. You made a solid game!

Developer(+1)

Hey, thank you so much for the comment! We will integrate a better tutorial and polished physics that will hopefully make it worth it. We really appreciate the feedback

Submitted(+2)

Fun game, and unique! I liked the yoyo but it doesn't really play like...a yoyo? Still fun, lol. The physics could be pretty bothersome but could be nice if polished up. Very interested to see where you take this, nice work overall!

Developer(+2)

Thank you so much! Yeah, I understand what you mean haha, we wanted to make a compromise between realism and good mechanics to make it more fun. Thank you for the feedback, we plan on making the physics feel better overall in a future build. We really appreciate your support!

Submitted(+2)

Well I have to say I found it difficult, but I liked how I was improving with each time I was trying to play it. Nice game!

Developer(+1)

I'm happy to hear that you improved every time! Thank you so much for sticking through it!

Submitted(+2)

Awesome original movement mechanic, and with some polish it would be perfect! Good Job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! We will definitely polish it!

(+2)

refreshing idea...  with little polish it is gold...

All the best for the rest of the jam

Hey, thank you so much for the feedback! We really appreciate it.

I returned the favor as previously settled on your page. Good luck to you as well!

You already know what needs some work but the idea and the creativity is there! It had me playing through the end just because I enjoyed what I can do with the yo-yo and the level design!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the feedback! I'm really happy you enjoyed it and got to the end. We really appreciate it.

Submitted(+2)

It was good. I mean Im sure you are aware of the sound issue and the clipping problems but I could see how levels were supposed to play. I appreciated you putting the hidden coins for some replay.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your feedback! We appreciate you taking the time to notice we are aware of some of the issues with our game! It means a lot that you appreciate the replay value

Submitted(+2)

very cool idea with the yo yo! its so versatile that you can do a lot of things with it. the only problem i had was that the yo yo was a bit finicky and sometimes went through things without pressing right click.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your comments! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, we are aware of that issue and are working on fixes

Submitted(+2)

I always love 2d games with interesting movement mechanics!

I think some refreshing on the controls and a well thought tutorial would really make the game shine!

Keep going :D

Developer (2 edits) (+1)

Thank you so much for the feedback! Yes,  we will do our best to polish.  Also, we didn't have enough time to make in-game tutorials but we made a guide during the rating period for the time being!
