This was a pretty neat game!  I beat it but after the boss died nothing happened so I slowly just lost light and died (which, in a dark way was kind of poetic haha).  The controls were a bit off for me as it seemed that dropping the torch wasn't always super responsive.  I wonder if that could be my keyboard though.  And as another user said, being attacked immediately in a room was jarring at times.  Overall a nice experience though!

Thanks for the review! If you go check out the updated version on gamejolt (which I'd highly reccomend) it adds a map and fixes the boss not sending you to the victory screen. The torch issue is still a problem though and its not just your keyboard. still haven't figured out what causes it though...

Really cool and interesting concept for sure. I dig the pixel artstyle and the effect of the light actually decreasing as my fuel went down was also pretty neat. The combat is pretty simple and basic, but it works for what it is. The only real complain I have is that the map is too big for its own good. At least a blindminimap that would show the position of you and the stones woould be really great.

Overall, pretty good, with more polish it could be really memorable. Good job!

Thanks for the review man I appreciate it :) If you want to check out the GameJolt version, I added a dungeon map in one of the chests that shows you where you are in the dungeon. it also fixes some bugs with invisible enemies and the final boss. glad you liked it though :)

Pretty awesome, the only thing I have a problem with is when you walk into a room and enemies attack you immediately. Other than that, super good art and idea.

Thankyou! I was experimenting with making the enemies spawn in after entering and I think I adudes a slight delay but any more would make them “pop” in which I thought looked bad. If I ever continue the project that’ll be something to work on though. Glad you enjoyed it :)

Great game for a couple days work! Some other improvements might be:

  • Minimap (ALA The Legend of Zelda, The Binding of Isaac, Metroid)
  • Damage balancing - I think some mobs could have separate attacks, movement speeds etc
  • A mouse button for dropping the torch (maybe right click)
  • Difficulty modes - hardcore (as the first release is), and easy - saves progress (current room, items collected)
  • Stats - Number of Deaths (inc torch), Kills (each mob type), rooms entered, time played, fastest time to kill Grim etc

Overall really cool little dungeon theme I like the vibe it gives off

Thanks man! Make sure to try the tweaked version out too as it fixes a lot of issues with the game. I’m glad you enjoyed it though 👍
