Really nice idea!

Like the way the robot move. Perhaps some little frictions can help to make some movements anticipation.

I finished all the levels, but I didn't manage to get the battery for the level 8. :)

Good job! :D

Developer

Thank you! I haven't made a game like this before so it is good to get feedback on how to make it better.

m a n this game for me is a real gem! i really liked it! i could actually play this game properly and enjoy it. I cant belive how much level design work went into this in like 2 days!

I got how to play naturalisiticaly, didnt even look at the about.  The simple UI at the top kind of told me what to do.

Once i got how to actually move around and what the mechanic was, I was like - hey this is really hard, but also really fun!

in game jam terms - i think you apsolutely killed it.

just some kind of broader criticisms

Some kind of story - or implied story - even a simple one always kind of elevates a game for me. I dont want big walls of text or a lore, but you have a cool concept of this broken robot, i kind of want to know who the little guys wondering around who kill me are, and where i am going.

art. like its not playing into how i rate the game, but i think it would be further elevated with just better art. The stuff you have is okay, but its a bit sparten and bare bones. A nice particle effect on the portal, maybe a mechanical like machiney repeating background, a couple of frames of animation on the player, make the batteries bob up and down.

Sound. I kind of want a sound when one of the buttons breaks, like a *clunk* or *ziiiit* - machine going wrong noise. I think a landing sound, when you land a jump, like a *thunnk - robot hitting the ground sound*, would make it more satisfying.

Developer

Wow thank you so much!!!

I did want to add a story to it, but the time really caught up on me in the end. I will try and make something for next time though.

I am HORRIBLE with art, and my friend who usually does art stuff with me is out of the country for a bit, so I had to do it myself. I for sure think that it could be better, but I wasn't going to be able to do much better.

That also came down to time, I had pretty much forgotten about sound/music until last minute, and once I found sites and figured out how to get proper usage rights I didn't have enough time to implement everything in.

I think if I had better time management I would give the game the polish it needed, and thank you for all of the feedback!

I love fairly hard games and enjoyed yours very much!  However, I felt sometimes that I managed to beat level more due to luck  than my understanding of the timing. But cool game nonetheless!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I'm learning through this how hard difficulty/timing can be to make in a game.

Hi there! Very interesting idea! At first I didn't like the unrealstic movement of the character without momentum (the player stoped in mid-air for example) but, as the levels when by, I understood it was a necessary mechanic for the game. What was a bit annoying though was the monster... In some levels, it was an interesting challenge to avoid him but in other it just seemed like we had to be lucky with our timing! Good game overall! Loved the music! Good job!

Would love if you could check mine out too! Or not, no pressure ;)

Developer

Thanks. I spent a while figuring out how to time/set everything up for the levels, and it seems like I could work on that more next time.

I will try and check that out soon.

The idea of pressing each button only once is a hard one to execute, but I think you are on the right track. Currently, your level design is less about figuring out the solution, but rather about execution. At the start of a level, you are always presented with only one side to run to, pretty much eliminating any thought about HOW to beat a level, instead focusing on nailing timing and spacing. This is fine, but for an execution based puzzler I would expect tighter movement, and a bit more juice on the controls.

If you want to push the puzzle aspect of this game, your levels need more ambiguity, making the levels more open (which is hard with only one button per stage, maybe you could use pickups that restore a button, leading to more paths).

I like it!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback!

I thought about having pickups to refresh the button presses, but I wanted to make sure that the "Only One" was really at the forefront of the game.

Really nice and clever design.
Using each command only once BUT concentrating on the timing and the duration of each one is really cool. That being said, it's definitely too tough for me: I got stuck pretty early, on level 5. XD

Developer

Thanks! I hope I can make more levels next time so that there is a less strong difficulty curve.

Good Ideas in this games. Sometimes a little bit frustrating but it's fine

Developer

Thanks.

This has got a lot of cool ideas, but I found it mostly frustrating. Some of the levels are a bit too unforgiving in terms of getting just perfect adjustment for landing given that you can't adjust the landing at all (due to the main mechanic).

I stopped playing after hitting this too many times, I think it could've benefitted from making the top two spikes in line with everything else instead of requiring almost pixel perfect timing.

I did like the design a lot, I just think the levels need a bit of tweaking to make it more forgiving. Overall, great job!

I wanted to make it tougher since it was a shorter game, like an old NES game. I will definitely take think about this on future games though.

This is just amazing, I couldn't stop playing it good job xD

Wow thanks.

I enjoyed playing your game very much. It's a great rage game :D

Level design is great. I like how you made the interface intuitive so that you didn't even have to use words to explain how to play the game. I played up until level 5. That one was too difficult for me.

Besides graphics I think you could also improve jump feel.

Also, I think I found small bug. When you reset the game, if you keep holding button, you'll be unable to use that button in that second run.

Overall, well done! :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

I tried to keep everything minimal with the time constraints.

Yeah I think that it could have used some more polish/testing, but with this being my first game jam I should just improve from here.

Submitted

Definitely, you did a great job for a first jam. Best of luck in your future endeavors :D

Great adherence to theme. Completely changes the way that you solve platforming challenges. The physics are a little off, but also having done a platformer I understand that this is super difficult to get down just right.

Developer

Thank you! I will try and make the physics better for my next platformer.

too good.... !! hope you get to be among top 10..

all the best for the rest of the jam

Developer

Thank you, I hope so too!

I actually already rated yours, and it was a lot of fun.

This really flips the expectations of a platformer on its head. It adds an interesting puzzling & timing element that Mark Brown likes so much. I like how resetting lets you restart the game right away. It's a very fun experience. I might play more once the ratings period is over.

Developer

Thank you!!! I do hope that he gets to play it at some point.

It's a fun game to play and has nice sound effects and music! The movement feels a little weird, but it doesn't ruin the gameplay much. Also I saw you used GameMaker: Studio 1 which I appreciate :) Overall nice game and can be expanded on!

Developer

Thank you! Yeah I'm an OG Gamemaker user.

I like the idea, but enemies should be adjusted. Often even if you know exactly what you have to do and can execute it, you have to make multiple attempts just to not run into the enemy. And because of how controls are handled in this game, it often means just waiting at the very beginning of the level

Developer

I appreciate the feedback. I think having to restart levels because the enemy kills you is kind of what adds challenge to the game, and it is like that in most platformers however. It is something that I will try to fix for next time though.

Submitted

Interesting music choice, cool idea. A little clunky to play but I like what you were going for.

Developer

Thanks, I wanted to make the movement a bit smoother but ran out of time.

Submitted

This game really makes me want to test my skills. Simple enough that I want to practice and get smoother with the controls! Great game!

Developer

Thanks! It took me a while to get everything to a decent level of difficulty that didn't feel too unfair.

Submitted

This is a really clever idea!  You really have to think about each level before you approach it, which I enjoyed.  This could make for an awesome game if you took the time to refine the controls and add more levels!

Developer

Thank you. With all of the positive feedback I might try to make a full game out of this.

Submitted

Nice job, clever puzzles. Had a good time with this one.
