What did you eat/drink during the jam?
I drank water, because I had nothing else. Also I drank hot chocolate, but only because I was absolutely freezing. I ate pizza for the same reason.

Imagine if the game looked as good as the thumbnail. Just. Imagine.

I think limiting yourself to only purple and black would have helped a ton in consistency. Or at least limit white to only collectables/UI elements and text. Right now it looks like the aside from the enemies (which are cool) and player, the rest just feels like a prototype. The reason why I bring this up, is that there could be so much more potential with this.

Your take on the theme, while wasn't apparent to me at first, is a great one! I'm surprised you got a whole rougelike system up and running here!

The music doesn't reeeaally  fit in imo. I wouldn't necessarily call 8 bit SFX a cool feature, imo they really sound samey over all the gamejams going on and the only sound that fit well was the shooting sound.

I don't know why, but your player looks much more poorly designed compared to the enemies. They're all soft and don't really have any hard edges, while the player does.

Speaking of the enemies, they would need some rebalancing. The turret looks like a better player. When I shoot it spins (which made me confused at first, that usually isn't what makes me think I dealt damage) and starts shooting in a random location. This means I'm able to stand in one spot and shoot it until it dies. Also, for some reason it's bullets destroy mine, which can make for unintuitive and unavoidable damage taking moments. The big eyed enemy is too fast and forces me into corners. The triangles are perfectly simple and squishy, but realizing they are actually enemies took me some time, as they stand around a lot and dash slowly.

I've had a favorite moment when I encountered a room empty aside from about 20 triangles. That was a nice change of pace.

The UI looks so out of place. You could have also added a prompt saying you can press space to open the map. The rest isn't necessary, especially if you're low on time, because a lot of games use WASD + Mouse controls and it's fairly intuitive. I also don't know why I am apparently collecting coins. That just feels kinda generic and unnecessary. I used the word necessary at least like, 4 times in this review, lol.

To be honest, this game feels unfinished and a little unorganized. You've got a great system and idea though, so I won't be rating this too low. Imma try to be fair. Just next time when you enter a gamejam, focus more on:

+ Consistency and Coherence

+ Polish

+ Finished product

You've got skill and if you focus more on these, imo you can make some great stuff. You can even consider expanding this game. You would probably need something to make it more original, but you could make this bigger. I'm just saying to consider it.

Also, I am now realizing this is the longest comment I've written in this gamejam and it's an absolute wall of text. Oh well.

Have a good time makin' games :)

Wow! Thanks for the very in-depth review XD

I can't believe this was done in 3 days! It's amazing! The variety of enemies is pretty good, too. Though I would suggest adding some kind of shop system to buy hearts or power-ups and reducing the health of some enemies.

Developer

There is actually a shop somewhere. It's pretty hard to find...

Pretty good roguelite! It's fairly barebones, but what's there is super fun, and really impressive for being done in just three days. I loved the enemy variety a lot, and the music fit super nicely.

I think just about the only thing I didn't like was the spinning on hit for the player, not being able to instantly start shooting back as soon as you got hit felt off to me, but otherwise it's a very solid entry!

Would like to see more of it in the future - I'm a huge roguelite/like fan, haha.

Developer

Thank you so much! I'd love to update the game in the future :D

I would love to see where this game is going but for now its weird with his "prototypie" art. Nice game experience tho!

Developer

Thank you! This isn't prototype art though, the game was meant to be geometric :)

Cool Game Loved It! Can You Play My Game?

Developer

Of course!

Submitted(+1)

Very cool! I love the random generation, and all the enemies are unique and fun! I wish the shooting was a tad less randomized, because it can be hard to aim where you want. Other than that, the game is great, and the art looks quite nice as well!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you so much for the feedback :) The aim is randomised to keep players from sniping enemies from too far back. Risk vs reward, kind of.

It was a great experience!

I adore the simplicity of this game. Most of the submissions in this game jam have gone very hard with the visuals by forgetting to stay with the jam's restrictions, but this game was on-point in regard to that!

Apart from those, I adore what you have done with different types of enemies. It was fun to learn their movement and fight them.

I think the game can use a lot of polish and turn into an amazing experience overall, but even in its current phase, it offers a lot!

Solid entry, good job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! I do plan to expand  the game in the future :D

Very exciting game!

Developer

Thanks! :D

Really Cool Game, the moving was a little wonky, but the game good art!

Developer

Thank you!

nice work. I liked it quite a bit. Not the hugest roguelike person but it was fun

Developer

Glad you still enjoyed it :)

A roguelike with random generation, that follows the theme, incredibly polished enemies and enemy animation (I swear I love those animations), that is geometric, that is fun, that is just amazing overall AND made in 72 hours? You deserves 5 stars all around my friend.

Developer(+1)

Wow! Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it :D

The gameplay, the intense soundtrack, I have no idea how you managed to make something like this, and on top of that only in 3 days. that is some serious dedication!

Developer

Thank you! I did spent a lot of time on it, but I did study how to use tile-based games before the jam in preparation and practised setting it up, so I was really speedy getting the main mechanics down :P

Submitted

That is very Impressive, well done!

One question, I had alot of money during my run but found no place to use them.

Is there a way to spend these coins or are they just your point system?

Developer

There's one shop in each dungeon, and you should find it if you keep exploring. I'm probably going to add more though, so it's easier to find them :)

Submitted

That is so cool! I  didn't know!!

now I am eagered to find them :D

Roguelite made in 72HOURS wtf thats crazy good job amazing game

Developer

Thank you! I have had quite a bit of practise at roguelites.

Fun game! Love the charming artsyle. The gameplay is pretty challenging and the music was perfect. Would recommend allowing the player's projectiles to reflect off of surfaces to add more gameplay variety, like being able to hide and shoot at the same time or being able to line up shots from odd angles while dodging incoming attacks

Developer

Thank you so much! Having bounce shots would be awesome too :)

The game design and the gameplay is really cute. I didn' t expected this much as enemy variation. The invinsible enemy bullet are really annoying but good at all. Congrats !!

Developer(+1)

Invisible enemy bullet?! Hold on. That's not meant to be a thing.

Developer(+1)

Oh sorry you said invincible. I thought you said invisible XD

Submitted(+1)

Nice game! I liked the variety in enemy types, and the artstyle was generally pleasing. Having the player, the player's bullets, and the enemies be different colors would've been nice to help differentiate them, & the shooting does feel a little janky at times with the knockback, but overall, good job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, in hindsight I probably should have changed the player's colour, but I was really trying to stick to the two colour style. Thanks for the feedback :)

Submitted(+1)

Wow the music is intense! And then what I thought was a simple enemy turned into a cluster of enemies richocheting everywhere!  Each enemy had it's own personality, and set this apart from a simple shoot to kill sort of game.  I would love to see this expanded upon, great job!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you so much :D I do plan to expand it in the future, like adding new maps, bosses, items, skins, shot types and more! Glad you enjoyed it.

Submitted(+1)

I really liked this game! Each bullet shot an enemy hit felt good and the music was outstanding. I really enjoyed this great job!

Developer

Thank you so much!

Submitted(+1)

the little triangles are very hard, they dash to you very fast. the game is good, nice job.

Developer

Yeah, stay back for those ones :D. Thank you for playing :)

Submitted(+1)

Awesome! I loved the art, I haven't really seen anything else like it. It seems almost...softer. Like the shapes aren't sharp or hard. IDK, its super cool anyway.

Developer

That was the feel I was going for. With the colliders being slightly smaller than the obvious size, so it felt like you were squashing into walls instead of just running slam into them. Thank you for playing :)
