Made it to the first mushroom. It's fun and the level design is good, but I think the jumps are a bit too precise. You basically have to be all the way to the very edge of the platform to make the first jump for instance. But that's an easy fix, and I think with a little testing and tweaking it can be a lot friendlier to noobs like me. Still, great entry!
Man, the platforms are the farthest they can possibly be, which became really frustrating...maybe build up to that difficulty/distance
i did like the character jiggle
thanks :)
Sweet animation and cute graphics, but I kKeep falling as I am too used to coyote jumping. Too hard for me, reached only second mushroom twice before frustrating
sorry i was thinking of adding coyote jump but then decided not to ._.
I really like that you went with your own art-style, I think more people should do that even if they aren't artists because it always ends up providing so much personality to the game. Platformer wise I think this game could really benefit from a coyote timer, especially when so many of the jumps makes you go so close to the edge. I also think variable jumping would be nice since there was a jump at the start where I persistently bonked the gnomes head into a ceiling which made me fall down before reaching the edge, so it would be nice to be able to control the power of the jump. I hope you don't find it too criticizing, I honestly found this one to be quite fun, it just needs a bit a polish in certain areas. Btw I really like the design of the gnome and the tweening when you jump
thanks :) i was thinking of adding the coyote jump but i decided not to few hours before the gamejam ended (the uploading part) if i decide to update the game im probably gonna add coyote jump and let the player be able to control the power of jump...
Interesting game, but the games seems to be kinda laggy, especially the inputs.
its probably the web version since it didnt lag in the desktop one i shouldve uploaded also a downloadable file :(
Both the presentation and the movement are rough. It was really hard to land some of the jumps, especially after the mushroom at the beginning. Also I would appreciate a checkpoint system if you plan to make long levels, as it felt discouraging to repeat almost the entirety of the level after making a small mistake. Still, there is a foundation for a fun game if you decide to polish this entry in the future.
if i ever decided to finish the game i would probably add checkpoint :}
The graphics could be improved, but other than that it's a great game
thx :D
The gameplay is great! Just the art can be much better. But overall good!
thanks
prety good but needs coyote time p.s pls play my game https://coolcodedude.itch.io/a-light-in-the-dark ratings are greatly appreciated
This remember me that game "going up with Benedit fuddy" theme is really well place and it's really fun... The struggle is real, but also a lot of fun. Just remember it's a precision platform so don't expect mercy! Really fun and clever.
thanks :)
A very solid concept using the jam's theme. I liked how smooth the jumping mechanics are. Also it's nice that there is a gradual difficulty increase as you move upwards. It feels very balanced.
I liked it. The main thing I have to ask is:
>Why does it feel laggy a bit with the camera movement?
It could be because of how much is on the scene. But I had fun with turning platforms on or off and making the precision jumps. Some where harder than others. Mainly due to the lag the first jump requires a bit more to get right than the other jumps, and I got used to the laggy feeling a bit in. It could be that it's a web game due to the lag. Outside the first jump, the jump I died the most to was after the Mushroom on the light block trying to jump on the platform with the light block covering the way, so the timing had to be really good to get it right. But it's very enjoyable.
thanks i shouldve probably also added downloadable version because it doesnt really seem laggy on desktop version only on the web version of the game :]
Enjoyed playing the game :3
but It's too hard <.> I couldn't pass the first level :`D
i even had to try the first ever jump like 10 times to get it right xd
good for people who are looking for challenge B)
well made !
well there is only 1 level but thanks :)
sure
Really liked the main mechanic, very interesting! Make us do this decisions, of using the bulb to surpasse a barrier, but making the plataform disappear. The gameplay opens the possibility of being amplified, with the light assuming other functions.
I would just give one tip, not by experience, but from trying to learn with videos gamedeveloper's videos from Youtube.
I think the first jump is already difficult. The first interactions with the game should be the easiest as possible, just to get along with a new dynamic.
yea next time ill probably make it easier from start :]
Good platformer - only thing I would change is adding coyote time (through an extension)
yea i know that extension was thinking of adding it but then decided not to because wasnt sure if you could just skip some part or smth
I like it, but there is input delay on the jump and i cant get past the first obstacle :C
try restarting the page because sometimes its broken for example the sound or inputs dont work properly
I like the absurd premise, watching the gnome climb up into the sky. How whimsical! The character could be a little less slidey. Good work.
thanks :]
Bro, why on earth would you make space (the almost universal default for jump) the light on and off lol. That's so frustrating to relearn. Also the first few jumps are SUPER tight, like you have to time it perfectly not to die (i.e. it's a tad hard at the start). Once I got the hang of it, it was better though!
thanks ill try to not make the jump so high next time my brother told me the same thing... yea
