I have a question. It seems that 'A' is based on "key pressed"... while 'S', 'D', 'J', and 'K' are based on "key released" (I'm not sure about 'L' because I rarely get that far). Is it supposed to be like that? It's actually much harder trying to release the buttons on beat, since it requires instinctively holding them down before the cues, and I can't hold down five keys at the same time because of my laptop keyboard's low key buffer.

It's a real shame. Even though the game does seem quite hard on its own, the strange control reading is quite frustrating as someone who has played rhythm games before. The art and concept is cute, and the song is a pretty cool MIDI.

The audio is a bit loud; it regularly peaks at or above +0.0 dB.

Congratulations on the submission!

Woah dude good catch, I just checked and apparently i forgot to put the code for the rest of the buttons except A lmao. Thank you for telling me and I'm really impress that you caught that, like did you noticed that the first time you played? If so, companies should hire you as a play tester XD . And yeah I will add settings for adjusting of volume and such. I'm glad you liked the art and concept! Thank you for playing and for leaving a feedback, I appreciate it!

–"like did you noticed that the first time you played?"

It took me a couple of tries. I immediately noticed that the inputs other than 'A' were weird, but it took some experimenting to realize that it was a release command.

It's something that comes up a lot when I program debug controls, which just use my keyboard. If I mix up a "key pressed" and "key released" control, it makes them quite awkward to handle, especially if it's something I only want to do once OR if it's something I want to be able hold down. I think I got so used to releasing '~' to toggle my debugging text that I intuitively noticed that the inputs for the other keys were the same thing. It's just personal experience.

Ooh I see, well thanks to you I just play-tested it and the rest of the buttons feel a lot smoother now and working as intended like the A button. I can't believe I forgot to add and change the code to the rest of the buttons lmao. Thank you again :D

If it wasn't for the fact I'm not really good at rhythm games, this game would have been great. Only real issue is that you can spam ASD JKL, making the game less challenging than it should be.

Developer

Yea this game is quite challenging, I am planning to adjust the difficulty of this specific level when I start working on the update of this game. And about the spamming strat, I plan to add a miss counter and that would increase obviously, and I also plan to add a scoring system and that would also decrease when you spam.

But idk if I should count it as losing a life as well, since there 's also a spam part on this song (and maybe on other songs in the future) and I don't want the player to accidentally die on a part they should've actually spam lol. But anyways, thanks for playing and leaving a feedback! I appreciate it! :D

Great music and gameplay, but no visual feedback is kind of a deal breaker in rhythm games, thankfully this is something you can fix very easily.

Now, if the no feedback was part of the design philosophy for the game just forget everything I said after the first comma :)

Developer

No no, you're definitely right. Visual feedback is really essential in a rhythm game, since it tells the player if they're playing well, bad, or if they can do even better, and this game definitely lacks of that. But I'm glad you still enjoyed playing and thank you for your feedback! :D

Nice to see an entry about rhythm, nice characters.

Developer

Thank you for playing and for your feedback! I actually don't have that much experience yet in pixel art, so I'm delighted that you and other people liked the characters' design.

This is a game I can see myself putting HOURS into. It kind of reminds me of games like Guitar Hero or Rock Band, which I love! Awesome visuals, great music. Nice job!

Developer(+1)

Aww, thank you for your kind words! I am planning to expand this game and improve the player's experience and stuff, so stay tuned for that if you want (I'll probably make a devlog post about it here in itch after the jam). Thank you for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed it! :D

Submitted(+1)

Looking forward to it!

cool!

Developer

Thanks! Glad you liked it!

I wish I had the skills to play this to the end but it's just too difficult for me

I feel like the lack of visual feedback didn't help weather I was on time or not could help me suck less XD

Nice work all the same!

Developer

Thank you for playing and for your feedback! Yeaa sorry about that, definitely will add visual feedbacks and adjust the difficulty of this one cuz it's way too hard lol. I will make a devlog about the all the things I'll add in the game after the jam, so stay tuned for that if you're interested. Thanks again for playing :D

Submitted(+1)

Play this, please. I want to see this return with some polish!

Developer(+1)

Hey man thanks again for playing and reviewing my game! Your feedback and everyone else's here are very helpful for me to improve, as I am just a beginner in game dev (this is my third game so far, and my first game to actually put a lot of effort into lol). I am planning to expand this game and improve the player's experience like the visual feedbacks, controls, and such (I'll just make a devlog about all those things after the jam). Anyways, thanks again and I'm glad you liked it! :D

Nice rhythm game.
Though needs some visual feedback on buttons when I press them as well as an indication of when it was missed or on time.
I suck at rhythm games overall so I couldn't get that far tbh so it's a bit too harsh for total newcomers.
Start the levels easier at first so it's not so fast right from the start.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Yeaa just saw a comment also mentioning the no visual when buttons are pressed, totally forgot to add that lol. And I agree this was too challenging and the unstable part (which are the buttons moving) makes it 2x harder, especially for players who don't play rhythm games that much and heck even for me who has a decent amount of experience in rhythm games. It was my plan to make multiple levels varying in difficulty, but I didn't know it would be this much of a hassle to create a single rhythm game level XD.

But I am planning to expand this game cuz I've been wanting to make a rhythm game for a while so yeah. Thank you for playing and I'm glad you still liked it even tho it's too hard lol.

Submitted(+1)

It really needs to give some feedback to which button you are pushing even when missing as I am just too unco to look at the keyboard and screen.

Developer(+1)

Ooo yeah totally forgot to add a visual to the buttons when you press them, thanks for telling me that. I'll also add visuals when you hit and miss the notes in the future. Thank you for playing my game and for the feedback :D

Submitted(+1)

Cool art and music, seems pretty challenging though I'm not good at rythm games so maybe I don't count. There's an audio feedback when you get the note right but a visual one would be nice too. That said, good work!

Developer

Thank you for your kind words! It is quite challenging, maybe too challenging lol. But I'm glad you still enjoyed it and yea I'll add more visuals in the future.

Wow, I just thought how I can make Rhythm game with GDevelop.
You did it.
Great!

Developer

Yeaa it took me a while to make this and a lot of timers lol. Glad you liked it!

Submitted(+1)

Rhythm game made with Gdevelop and as such very good. As others have said, it would be good feedback to see if the right button was pressed. Solidly made. Another thing is that I'm a terrible rhythm game player.

Developer

Thank you for playing and for your feedback! Definitely will add more feedback in game in the future! :)

ROCK N ROLLLLL ! :D

Enjoyed playing ! <3

Well made !

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! :D

Submitted(+1)

Great idea for the theme. In my hands any rhythm game becomes unstable. Anyway, I love the music, but maybe more feedback would be useful when you press the buttons. Difficulty levels might also be a good idea.

Developer

Haha, thank you for playing and giving feedback! Definitely will keep those suggestions in mind, I'm also glad you enjoyed the music :D

Submitted(+1)

It is quite hard and may lack of feedback when missing or succeeding, but it is enjoyable to see a rhythm in GDevelop, and the music is nice. Thanks for this initiative :)

Developer

Yeaa tru, I was planning to add animations to the ghosts when you miss but I was tired and animation is like my kryptonite lol, and it's like my least favorite part to do in game dev hehe. Thanks for playing and for your feedback! Will definitely add more visuals when you hit and miss in the future :)

Submitted(+1)

I love rhythm games but I am not very good at it. It is nice too see GDevelop can make great rhythm games. Great Job @Teazon for making this.

Developer

Aww, thanks for playing and for your feedback! Feels wonderful to see many people enjoyed playing this game :D

Submitted(+1)

Making a music rhythm game with GDEVELOP is a difficult thing for developers and players. Interesting attempts!

If the player presses the right time, the screen can give more feedback, it will be better

Developer

Yeah I agree this was such a pain to make lol, but I had a ton of fun developing it and loved how it turned out. And yes, I plan to give more visuals when you successfully hit the things right. Thank you for playing!

Submitted(+1)

I love rhythm games so I really enjoyed this entry! Pretty difficult, but I got the hang of it eventually

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it! I also love playing rhythm games, especially Friday Night Funkin'. Thank you for playing my game!

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

It's pretty hard if you ask me but I love the music

Developer

Haha yeah thanks, and thank you for playing it still!
