Nice character controller - movement and jumps felt good. I got stuck after collecting the powerup, so perhaps I didn't understand the mechanic. Level is well laid out.

Developer

Maybe the tutorial wasn't clear enough then, sorry about that...

Thank you for your feedback !

Nice castlevania style game! Was fun to play.

Developer

Thanks ! I don't think I would consider it a metroidvania as-is, but there definitely was some inspiration

Submitted

Not bad

Developer

Thanks :)

Really fun game with nice level design! Also, I loved how well you incorporated the aura mechanic in various situations.

My only issue was with the aura projection ability which unfortunately triggered the bookmark on my browser which made it quite difficult to play after a certain point.

Other than that, great game!

Developer

Thank you ! I did have fun toying with this mechanic :)

And yeah it's a nasty bug, the game is best played with a controller

I played this on browser and when I tried to do the key combinations to jump with a projection it required me to press "ctrl" + "D" which bookmarks the tab and pauses the game x)
Still a fun tho. Really love how it pushes you forward like a true metroidvania at a satisfying pace!

You know, this is a really annoying bug, and I noticed it just after the submission period ended XD

I playtested with a controller more than with a keyboard, my mistake

Thank you for the feedback though !

Ofc! Kinda hard to juggle bugs like that in a 10 day window, so I totally feel for ya. I'll have to try it on controller next time :p

The tutorial is a really fun and easy way to show the game's main mechanics. I think the controls were well thought out and felt easy to use.

Fun entry!

Developer

Thank you !

I feel like controllers controls are fine, but that I didn't do a good job with keyboard controls though... Recurring problem with my games ^^'

In game tutorial was nice as you acquired skills.  Shield deflect is a nice mechanic (turns out the best offence may be a good defense!).  Got to a point where I thought, I need double-jump...and yep...it was just around the corner.  I was pleasantly surprised after moving up out of the starting area and moving LEFT...yep, there was stuff to do to the left.

Nice submission.

Developer

I played enough metroidvanias to have understood a few tricks like these haha

Glad you enjoyed the game :)

Cool! The main deflect mechanic feels good, and killing enemies is fun. I think that sending the player all the way back to the start when they die is a bit harsh, but I had a good time. I also like the parallax background. Well done!

Developer

Thanks ! Actually, there is a checkpoint every time you get a new ability. If you encountered a bug where this checkpoint system doesn't work, I'm sorry ^^' Didn't find it myself

But yeah having to redo the whole level every time would be boring, 100% agreed

Really cool mechanics and level design ideas! I like the versatility of the aura, it's simple but it allows a lot of things to be done!

The sound effects are not always appropriate though, and I got blocked by a rock like some other people here ^^

Overall good job!

Developer

Thanks ! Yeah I was trying to experiment and see where I could go with this mechanic

I agree about the sound effects, they were pretty much the last thing that I added, I had to rush

Submitted

The game mechanics are nice!

But I got blocked by a rock too :(

Developer

I think this happened to a bunch of people...

Worst thing is that I thought this could happen while playtesting, then I forgot to fix it ^^'

Submitted

Well done.

The mechanics work well together, when you get the first abilities.

If you polish and juice this up, this could definitely become a good metroidvania.

Some things that didn't work:

  • The game feels a little bit slow until you get the first abilities
  • The game doesn't really match the theme
  • I got stuck when where you the big rocks on the three flying enemies. I pushed the rock all the way to the left and couldn wall jump up :(
Developer

Thank you ! Yeah before you get any abilities, of course it's going to be bland ^^

Your feedback is much appreciated :)

Submitted

Even though assets were used all of them work great together creating a nice cohesion between everything. I also love the metroidvania style of the game, in addition to that the parallax background looks great as well. One thing I would recommend is to add variable jump height but i think that is all, Great Game :)

Developer

Thanks ! And props to the artists ;)

Variable jump height would be a great addition, I agree !

Pretty sure I found a bug that made the screen all red. Sticky keys kept firing off too. Good setup though!

Developer

I haven't ever seen this bug, sorry it happened to you :/
