I kinda like it, though it lacks in gameplay somewhat. I like the little pixel pokemon, they are fun.

Interesting idea, with very authentic looking graphics, but the gameplay is a bit lacking to be honest.

A nice experiment in Gameboy studio. I didn't feel like there was much of a game beyond clicking the pokemon, and the random/catch fail sometimes gets very repetitive. It took me seven tries to catch one Pokemon!

I liked the sprites you made for a smaller scale pokemon, and the art is very authentic to the original games.

Gonna be honest. if your going to put in all that work to clone a game, would have been nice to add a bit of music or something else to give it a bit more life. Animations, Jingles anything... I think you could have gone a bit farther with the project but cool layout overall.

Very nice entry!

I played pokemon a lot in my life haha. A game like your is the PXG, where the pokemons are free to be catch too.

Well...it looks and plays like a GameBoy game

This made me feel like I was playing Pokemon, I think you succeeded!

I liked the Pokémon sprites, they looked good. The character animations however were lackluster. I didn't mind the fact that the goal was to catch was just to catch Pokémon, but I feel like establishing some reasoning for why would help. Whearas Pokémon snap takes you on a course and gives you a camera, it isn't as clear here why you're catching Pokémon since there is very little direction in the game.

It would have been nice to have invested in more character animations, a better map layout and gameplay.

Interesting take on pokemon. Always happy to see games that focus on non-violent gameplay. Also, having a guy named Melon who lives in Melonville cracked me up haha

Woah, loved this reimagining! Kinda like:

I had a similar take on pocket monsters, so really appreciate your work. Maybe we can work together sometime on putting MONs into the gameboy! I think GB Studio is a dream to work in

It's so cool that you took this jam as an opportunity to reimagine these games! Great exploration of this concept!

Very nice game. I'm waiting for next updates and features.

An Interesting concept, seems to be like a pokemon beta or early game. I think the concept could improve a lot more with a little more polish and of course sound fx. Pretty good job on the game jam!

I liked the art but I didn't understand why I could catch some and not others, does each Pokemon have a catch rate and do I have to interact with multiple times until its caught?

Developer

Pokemon catching is randomized. Sometimes You catch it, and sometimes You not.

I don't really know what is the point in catching the pokemon other then they are rare. I can see possible potential in the game if you are able to do something with the pokemon you caught or explain how to catch pokemon better.  It would also be nice to have some animation and variety in NPC for all the guys look the same including the player.  Also I would make it tile based movement for the original pokemon games were tile based.  Lastly you should have a "Pokemon Counter" where instead of saying how many of each pokemon you have in dialogue have a list that shows up showing the name and then next to it the amount of them you caught.

What a great aesthetic, the movement and map layout feel really good. would love to see more!

It's a very good idea, I can't wait to see it evolve :D
