I like the sounds used, they work really well together and probably irrelevant for this jam but it has a nice hand-drawn art style.

The only issue I encounter was trying to find the direction of the seagulls, but even if I was lost for a few seconds is just so relaxing to navigate and move the boat.

Good sounds, but the fishing process is too simple. After I caught the first fish there were no more seagulls and I could only rotate the boat.

The game plays pretty well, the feedback for navigation + fishing works pretty good imho!
Its a bit unfortunate that you had to include TTS, but I can totally understand this, especially for a game jam. Good job!

Thank you for playing 🤗

Wow it took me a while to realize but the boat moves quite slowly, which is actually a nice touch. A simple, cozy game. Well done. As a blind person myself I can confirm it's accessible.

Thank you for playing and enjoying the game🤗 Yes, the boat move slowly and the fishing area is maybe a bit too big. 😅

It’s fish.

Is this important? No. Am I being needlessly pedantic? Yes. But … it’s fish! The messy, confusing, and frankly absolutely stupid rules for pluralising nouns in English are very important to me!

Hahaha, alright, now to the real review.

The voice acting is not half bad! It sounds like you actually did your best to record it yourself, rather than just using AI. It does mean that the mom and daughter sound quite similar but ah well, it’s a jam entry. But why, why did you have to ruin that by having random TTS lines mixed in? Would it really have taken that much time to record those? The inconsistancy makes it feel far more unfinished than even doing everything in TTS would.

Fishing minigames are notorious for not being fun, so you set quite a challenge for yourself. However, I still think there are several things you could have done to make this more interesting. Less awkward movement, timed events, a relaxing ambience to make waiting around seem worth it, etc. As it is, holding right arrow until I’m told to stop, pressing space, waiting and pressing space again does make for a perfectly functional game, but not a very fun one.

Thank you for playing and giving feedbacks 🤗 Now, I will remember that fish have an absolutely stupid rule. I corrected them in the description. We put some TTS lines because we didn't had the time to record them but we found them essential in order to give some feedbacks and instructions.

Thank you for humouring me! It really is a stupid rule, isn’t it? Especially because “fishes” is also a perfectly grammatical plural form of fish … but only when talking about multiple species of fish. Speaking of species, that one’s the same in singular and plural. And feedback is uncountable. And … ridiculous, all around. :)

That really is a shame. Of course having the lines done with TTS is better than not having them, but I hope you nanage to add voice acted versions at some point. They’re much more fun!

The voice acting, sound effects, and childlike art style are so great! Simple, but very effective at setting the mood. I especially liked the funny sound when you catch an electric eel! :)

Maybe it's just me, but I had some difficulty telling which direction the seagulls are, even with headphones. Maybe the volume difference of left/right channels could be exaggerated more?

I encountered a bug on the second day, where Mariana sailed off the right side of the screen. On my first playthrough I caught enough fish and heard the voice lines saying to return home, but I started moving right instead. If I pressed left I stopped moving, and when I let go I started moving right again. On my second playthrough it happened after my third fish. So unfortunately I was not able to finish the game because Mariana has decided to sail around the world. Good thing she is such an experienced sailor and fisher! :D

Thank you for playing and giving good feedbacks🤗Your bug report will greatly help me correct the problem that already happens to someone else. I will try to correct it once both jams are finished. For the seagulls, I don't know what is better, I have to do some tests. However, even if Mariana is an experienced sailor and fisher, her family is still waiting for the fishes 😅

I really liked the game, got all the fish needed for the night :) The seagull mechanic is a great idea, although I am fairly certain sometimes they laughed at me for catching other than fish. Great job!

Thank you for playing and finishing the game🤗 Seagulls are good pranksters 🤭

After catching one tiny fish, I found impossible to turn Mariana back home so I just lost her deep in the ocean. It was pretty hilarious xD

Thank you for playing 🤗. Maybe Mariana was not ready yet to go alone😅

Can you tell me what happens in order to know if it was a bug or a lack of feedback ? did you have difficulty to know where to go ?  or the boat was out of control ?

Submitted

Once I got the fish, I was not able to turn backwards. The boat didn't move by itself, it was my evil me who pushed it into the void.

Developer

Thank you for replying 👍 I understand what happened. You were not able to turn backward because I lock the boat until Mariana finish fishing and speaking. I did that to avoid having other problems 🥲
