Your game can be 2D or 3D if I understand the question correctly. The jam's theme of "Life in 2 dimensions" doesn't mean that the game you make must be 2D.

It can be both 3d and 2d. The two-dimension theme is more of a narrative requirement. For example, The Medium game kinda falls into this category
