Platformer with a lot of levels. Unfortuntely I could not get the dash to work on my keyboard. The music sounds strange since it is not in a key.
Completed normal mode in 15 mins. I suck, Not gonna even attempt the challenge mode.
This game is difficult af, I like it.
Pixel art is lovely, music and sound effects were nice.
I would have loved a better implementation for keyboards though.
Great game, cool levels, music and sound effects fit well together, unfortunately, programming a Jump and Run is very difficult. Many nuances need to be considered so that the player feels comfortable and has the feeling of controlling the game character. In your implementation, unfortunately, this is not yet the case. Nevertheless, a good game, keep it up.
Very nice!
Excellent UI and visual presentation! I really liked that there was a time to beat for the levels (dev time).
And I really, really appreciate controller support, that was such a huge plus for me!
A few nitpicks
I wish I could play the rest of the game, because it was really promising! Well done :)
Thanks for playing, and I appreciate the feedback!
Unfortunately the shoulder buttons (dash & scale) on controller don’t work on the web version. If you’d like to use controller and get the dash working then I’d suggest one of the downloadable builds.
(If you’re on Mac then you’ll be stuck with using keyboard on the web build, sorry!)
Good loking platforming game that I SUCK at ;P
The second level was already too hard for me. I don;t even know what the game wants me to do because I cannot seem to get the height needed to make the jump in the middle of the level.
The music accompanies the frantic gameplay nicely and the art looks very good.
It's a shame the game is so hard, because I didn't even get to the scaling part and reading the comments I am not alone in finding the game very difficult. For a game jam I would either err on the side of being too easy than too difficult or have a difficulty slider, or ramping up the difficulty more slowly after players at least saw all your game has to offer.
Still a great game though, I just suck at it ;P
(I did get kinda close to your level 1 time at least !)
Thanks for the feedback! The second level definitely spikes the difficulty too much which is too bad because the levels that come after are a bit easier (probably not enough so though). Lesson learned!
In terms of not getting enough height on the second level - you need to use the dash vertically (it’s omnidirectional),turns out this mechanic could have used an explicit tutorial.
Thanks for playing!
Got stacked on second level LOL, nice game!
Very beautiful visuals and music! Platforming is very difficult hahaha, it took me more 50 tries to understand that you can dash up
Good game, I didn't quite make it to the part where you scale, because the platforming was too hard for me, but that's just me. I worked out how to long jump and high jump but I always struggle with consistency in these games. Nice that you have finished the game and have a well-polished result, be proud!
great job! kinda hard to proceed but with time I got it, couldn’t complete because it was a little bit too hard :c but nice job, loved it c:
I love me some tricky platformers! Although this one really had me trying really hard to complete. It’s very very difficult. Movement is a little bit fast and twitchy, particularly the jumping is quite speedy.
I loved the tutorial, it made it very easy to learn how to play for me. The scaling mechanics were very creative too. I think you nailed the theme.
Good job!
Pretty fun and kind of addictive. Like others I didn't realise you could dash upwards initially, just a small detail but might be worth integrating into the tutorial :) That said, I really like how the tutorial was integrated into the game.
I found it really frustrating to play, tbh. The character moves so fast I overjumped or dashed into spikes like crazy. I did play online and with keyboard. Maybe that does not help. And the dash made it even worse for me.
Maybe lower the gravity a bit so it's a tiny bit more of a float.
I see that other people are having issues with dash. I did work for me, no problem.
Enjoyed your game! I had a very similar interpretation of the theme with similar mechanics! Like the previous commenter I couldn't actually get dash to work. I tried my game pad and also the shift key. The areas I was able to play were fun though! Graphics and music were both well done.
Thanks for playing!
Trying to sort out the source of some of these issues, if you don’t mind: what browser were you playing in?
latest version of chrome on a Mac
The style and aesthetics of this game are really good and clean, looks very professional. I also really appreciated the tutorial, I find most platformer jam games just want you to read the description and remember the controls and I have a hard time with that, and I feel the tutorial taught me them relatively well. However, I couldn't get the dash to work. I tried a few variations, pressing ctrl while pressing a direction, pressing it while jumping, pressing it after jumping, pressing it on it's own, and nothing seemed to work, so I did get stuck pretty early on.
Thanks for playing! The dash is meant to be pressed while moving/pressing a direction which it sounds like you tried. I’ve also bound the dash key to shift, perhaps that would work better for you if you end up to wanting to give it another try.
Thank you the feedback!
Lovely pixel art and good music. Overall the presentation is very well made, and the dialogue gave me a chuckle. Jumping-wise, it feels very precise, maybe not super enjoyable at the moment given how short your jump is though. I feel like my character arbitrarily stoped before jumping and lostmomentum a few times, that might just be a quirk of the WebGL build. Otherwiser, I don't think I progressed far enough to really appreciate the gameplay!
A few things:
Even though I downloaded the Windows build, deleting and redownloading didn't let me progress to the second level.
In the WebGL build, I can't clear this jump, so I'd appreciate a hint (I'll stop myself from giving a rating for now):
Thanks for the feedback! It is very much appreciated.
In the web build you’ll need to use the dash to clear the jump in that screenshot you’ve provided. Unfortunately, the controller support doesn’t work correctly for all buttons in the browser, which means you’ll have to rely on the keyboard controls. You can dash with CTRL or SHIFT in any direction.
I have no idea what is going on with the Windows build for some people, but it’s very disappointing as it seems to work for me every time. Could I ask which version of Windows you’re on?
Sure, I'm on Windows 11 Pro 10.0.22621. I'm not quite sure how to clear this jump even with the jump+dash combo, because it doesn't seem like dashing gives any extra height.
Edit: Ok, I came back to the game an hour later after thinking a bit, and figured out you can hold up while dashing. I think this is one of the things that I might have figured out if I could play with the gamepad. Also, similar games I've played only let you dash horizontally so that was probably also part of my issue.
Thanks for spending so much time with the game, it’s certainly more than I could ask for. This is great insight that should help me make it more clear for others in the future.
Edit*: I believe I fixed the Windows build issue by building the Godot project in debug, who would have thought. Thank you again!
Really nice game! The dash mechanic is too hard to master, but just a detail
Game art style was unique, music was good and content was there but controls are just terrible.
There are a lot of examples about coyote time, jump gravity etc. and you should definitely check it. What is worse about this kind of problem is you have to do it at start. Even if you change how the character jumps now than you would also have to change the levels which is a lot of overhead.
A very good advice I learned is that your main character movement should feel good even in an empty room. This is also a very good way to start a platformer.
The little giant, is cute, and the graphics are lovely, I like the colour palette, I’m terrible at tricky platformers but it’s nicely polished game with lots of play!
Cute little game, it kind of remins me of a mix between Super Meat boy and Celeste 😁
The controls feel really tight and polished, the only thing that I'd change is making the player fall slower, but it's just a personal preference though 😊
Well done, keep working and improving, you are in a really good path! 😀
Very lovely art style, color palette and music!
