This was fun! Very polished, nice job. Web version did work on Safari on Mac, but not on Chrome, as you've found.
Thanks so much for playing! I wish Godot 4 would fix their html5 export but I think it's a matter of browsers catching up...
I like the music a lot :) Also the castlevania vibes are just everywhere. The main movement was a little slidy for me, falling down of a platform and jumping over the safe spot was something I did a lot of times :D Very polished and impressive for a jam, but for me moving boxes all the way was a little boring after a while. Still you delivered a compact game so good job!
Thanks for the great feedback! A few people have complained about the movement, will definitely increase ground friction in a post-jam version. And +1 on the box aspect, I think we wanted to really focus on the theme as a prime citizen but it does come a bit in the way of the gameplay. Thanks for playing!
I love the throwback Castlevania vibe I got from this game. Really enjoyed the music and the pixel art. I was killed by the box more times than I'd like to admit. Fun game, great job!
Thanks so much for playing through it!
Sooo freaking amazing!!! I like the mechanic, the pixel art and the music. There is some kind of bug I guess?? Because when I throw the box when facing the wall, the box got thrown out of that wall. But I can restore the box by going to another room and come back.
Btw, I love killing zombies with the box. It's fun lol :)
thanks for the kind words! can you help me reproduce the bug? which wall are you referring to? I'd love to make this game bug-free :)
Thanks so much!
This wall here
The game feels super polished and enjoyable. The pixel art was awesome. Everything was done masterfully, it’s clear that you put a lot of effort into the game. Only the controls were not obvious, I was a little lost in it. Overall, you’re doing great.
Thanks so much for the feedback! I think we will need to have customizable controls, everyone plays those games a bit differently. We'll add that in the post jam version. Thanks for playing!
What an incredibly polished game! It's super impressive that you made all this in a month. The controls work really well, the visuals are incredible, the music & sound design is great.
If there is one criticism I have, it's that the box scaling is like... the one mechanic that makes this not just a standard action platformer? And there are some cool things with that, like damaging enemies with growing boxes, but on the whole being able to move platforms to a place doesn't feel like the most unique mechanic to base your entire game around?
On the whole though, this was really fun, and incredibly impressive!
Thanks for the kind words and your feedback is absolutely fair. I think we strived our best to incorporate the theme into the game by forcing the usage of rescaling boxes instead of introducing new abilities that would derail from the scaling. Had it not been the theme of the jam, I think the abilities / gameplay would have probably been drastically different.
Thanks for playing!
I got gibbed by scaling the crate many times x) Which seemed arbitrarily difficult for the tutorial level.
Intro, music, art was stellar :)
That's great feedback! I have to admit, getting killed by your own crate was a way for me to not have to deal with some last minute collision bugs / edge cases that I saw when the player would end up stuck between static colliders and dynamic ones. I'll probably take the time to fix this in the post jam version :)
An impresive way of dealing damage to the enemies O.o
Sometimes kinda unfair, but still this game keep me hooked till the end
Pretty fun experience, congratulations on your game!
Thanks so much for playing it! Glad you enjoyed it!
This is wildly polished and super impressive! Thank you so much for including the YouTube video of the playthrough as I am so bad at these sort of games. That being said, this is definitely the kind of game I'd like to get lost in trying to master. The art was excellent, as was the flow of combat. I am a big fan of the music as well.
Awesome job!
Thanks so much for giving it a try! I'm actually horrible at these types of games as well so I can truly relate lol
I love how the box can kill you XD, however I felt that the control are a bit clunky especially jumping, but really good idea for the core mechanic!
that's great feedback, thanks! Can you drill a bit more into how we could improve jumping? I'd love to polish that aspect of the game. Thanks!
I think the time that take to change direction is a bit too high, I think it make the control felt a bit unresponsive, at least for me
I killed myself more than enemies with the boxes :) Zombie death animation always looked like they would just get up again so I got this idea. Maybe only way to kill the zombies would be using the boxes otherwise they would just get back up. Potentially could lead to interesting soft puzzle stuff.
that's a really interesting idea for a new type or variant of enemy! Thanks so much for playing!
A full fledged metroidvania? Damn, you guys good. From art to gameplay everything is so polished. This is just impressive.
Thanks for the kind words! Thanks for playing!
This game got me thinking and there actually aren't that many games that actually have merlin as a main character, and now I wonder why. Solid visuals and a brilliant hitbox range for the sword, especially considering bats are about. It's a little nuts that you guys made this in a month and I'm pretty jealous haha. As soon as the techno tocata en fugue starts playing you know you're in for something. I could see this expanding into something bigger but it's pretty damn good as it is now. Hope you guys didn't kill yourselves too hard to make this.
I know right? Feels like there should be a ton of merlin games out there lol
Thanks for playing, I'm thrilled you enjoyed it! We did have a lot of short nights :)
This game is amazing! I love the DOS-style pixel art and the intro cutscene looks amazing, reminds me a bit of Castlevania. The ambience was fitting and the sound effects were great. I'm not too surprised the web version took so long to load considering the amount of content you managed to pack into this game. Bravo, GG!
thanks so much for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed the game!
the work went into this game is crazy. amazing art style and art direction, nice music and sfx as well. feels and plays like a legit fully developed game.
ps. also I'm a mac user and was able to use the web version, hope that's a pleasant surprise for you.
That's awesome you were able to play it on mac, I had 3 people try it without success :)
Thanks so much for the feedback, we did end up having a lot of short nights :)
What an amazing work, I really love the game. Congratulations!
Thanks so much! I really loved your game as well
Really digging this. Love the art, music, and vibe of the game. Lots of fun. Great job!!
Thank you so much! :)
Visually it's very good, audio is on point, gameplay is creative and everything feels very polished. My only nitpick is that it's kinda awkward to jump down from platforms.
Thanks for the feedback! I think especially from platforms that are moving down, this is something that I should fix in the post jam version. Thanks for playing!
I like how you can't attack when you're holding an object,
A sokoban-styled platformer is also pretty cool maybe.
Thanks so much for playing the game, glad you enjoyed it! :)
Great job this was a nice balance of everything.
Thank You! ^^
