I really enjoyed the shooting mechanic in the game very well done! Honestly I was a little lost in what I was supposed to do other than shoot other player tanks. A little more clarity or understanding, "improved loop system" would go a long way! Thanks for submitting!
The world needs more pirate games, and an MMO would be amazing. Hoping you guys continue to work on this one. Lets be honest it was pretty light on theme interpretation right? But this aside everything else was really fantastic. Loved the audio most of all, and I thought your artwork was fantastic and followed a consistent theme. It looks like this is going to be a much bigger project for you guys because there is so much in this game but a lot of stuff that can still be expanded on, so I'm really looking forward to following your progress. As others have noted there is an obvious audio-lag issue that happens sporadically and I'm guessing is related to the multiplayer nature of connections etc. but this is not really relevant for rating, just a bug to be fixed. Great great work.
Love the music, ui and level design. Impressive how y'all got multiplayer working so smoothly, had some audio lag issues but everything else made up for it. Good game!
Yeah, we didnt fixed the audio lag due to lack of time. The reason why sonds lags is that the world is not loaded at once, it is assembled from 448 chunks(uncompressed size of the map is 1.5 GB) and loaded on demand, but the loading algorythm is a bit laggy
Wow super cool game! Played it for a while and it was fun. A bit laggy at times especially combat, but could be on my end. intere4sted to see further development, great job!
fun game design!well done
Extremely well done, but very "trial by fire".
I have no idea how you managed to do this in only a month, but I hope to see more of this game in the future! I'd love some sort of tutorial or intro, I spent way too long trying to figure out buying/selling and trying to shoot other players with a fishing net
The UI is very clean & beautifully designed! The rest of the graphics & the whole multiplayer system are nice too, well done.
Dude, I can't believe this is a game jam game! I spent WAY too long just sailing around Tortuga. I was trying to be peaceful, do a little fishing, but the map was filled with.... PIRATES. Went 3-2 overall in battles. It was super active when I was playing, so it was super awesome.
Great job to the whole team. Killed it in all the categories.
Wow!! Very impressive for one month's work. Tons of people were active in the game when I was playing, which is surprising given the size of the map. It's quite fun and addictive. I think it really could have used some kind of tutorial because getting started is fairly confusing, but figuring it out was part of the fun.
One of my favourites so far!
Great graphics, great audio. I think I would like more feedback, but I can't quite put my finger on it.
Love the idea, haven't met anyone on my playthrough, but I could see it being more fun with more people on the server.
That was a lot of fun! Thank you. Biggest time suck of the jam.
Such a great work for a jam.
The music was a little skippy -- maybe when it was in an asynch with the server?
The economy system -- it would be helpful to understand what I was looking at on the map.
Thanks!
Sadly same experience as others since I did not find anyone else, also the trading was a bit confusing, maybe a tutorial would be nice. Has potential for sure and one can appreciate the effort you've put in!
Fantastic work! I have seen several ships and even destroyed one! very beautiful 2d graphics, I loved the sound and the gameplay! Thank you for such experience!
Hallo,
Thank you for sharing your game. I’ve already saved its RATING;
1. verified: GAME due to remembered WARCRAFT 2 (PC) based on sample GAMEPLAY animation
2. notes: musical tune to be as that of select PlayStation (1, 2) games, albeit at select TIMES, playing sound appears to skip;
3. notes: GAME to still be @“beta” due to BUY/SELL of items appears to be not yet functional—> adds: did NOT yet encounter any enemy pirate ship; whirlpool also disappears when moved ship to its position;
4. remembers: from movement, acceleration as that of object pulled by gravity due to weight; keyphrase: Super Mario Bros. (Family Computer)
5. adds: ATTACK ACTION via cannons and effect animations to exist
Thank you. Health!
I also didn't encounter another ship, although I did scope the horizon pretty closely. Did you guys think about adding any wind mechanics to affect sailing? I'm impressed at the ambition, I don't even wanna come near multiplayer yet... Nice stuff! Always nice to spend time messing around on boats... :)
Impressed you put together something multiplayer like this, although I never found another player. I like the concept. Graphics are clean and fresh. Shooting is a bit slow to react.
A little refinement and a decent player base and this could be a really good game.
Used to play a few pirate games like this.
Was lucky enough to encounter other players wanting to fight. I guess this Jam is big enough to get multiple people in side at one time even if there are 500+ submissions. Might be a bit laggy but I won so it was ok :)
crazy impressive making a whole .io game in a month, fantastic work.
Oh my goodness this project seemed so crazy ambitious. There's servers and everything!
I think that if there were more people on the servers (I'm assuming that's why the oceans are so empty right now) then this game would be an absolute blast! I love games like this, it feel reminiscent of Horizon's Gate and I.O. browser games.
Very very cool game. One thing is I wish the game was a little easier to learn. Maybe a tutorial level of some sort?
You must have invested an insane amount of work into this. The trading and all the icons, upgrades and UI alone - what an achivement. And then on top a multi-player mechanism! Wow.
Unfortunately in the time I was playing, there was no other ship around (well, maybe I can consider myself lucky for this - who knows...)
Any way, good job!
