Theme interpretation
I decided to make a game about two main things that are both innovative and impossible to accomplished nowadays, while focusing on the Moon theme: recycle space debris and travelling from Earth to Moon with no spaceship in just a few minutes.

In MoonHop, we are trying to help the Moon Engineers to fix the recently broken recycle station with a required chip that we have to bring from Earth to the Moon as soon as we can, since everything is falling apart.

Love the gameplay and how polish everything is- it all comes together nicely! I can picture myself playing this on my phone, pretty fun loop.

Thanks for your comment. Definitely one of the first things I will focus on after voting period ends will be to adapt the controls for mobile and improve the performance. Thanks again!

Really good game, very aesthetic. Wish the hitboxes were just a tad more forgiving. I like the music and the robo voice every now and then, makes it quite a relaxing experience.
I have to ask though, who left giant spinning blades in space?

Developer

Probably they popped up from the Moon recycle facility :P Thanks for playing and your feedback!

Nice game with simple controls and gameplay, but difficult to master.

Very nice music as well :-)

Developer

Thanks for your feedback and kind words! :)

That was fun.   Well done.  I gave it quite a few tries.

If you like platformers, please try our game.

Developer

Thank you! I’m glad you liked it! Your game was a lot of fun too!

Oh man! It's my favorite game of the game off so far. The sound, the aesthetic, the EVERYTHING was amazing. I really felt the hig speed at which I was flying across the space.

Amazing work!!

Developer

Thanks so much arrnavvv! I’m glad you like! I had a great time with your game as well!

The game is nice but based on the title image I expected it to be about walking on the moon and not flying to the moon.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! :)

Did it, it was not easy but still manageable, I would say that the difficulty is just as it should be.

I liked the idea of the game as well as the general atmosphere. I think my favourite thing was maybe the voice telling us the level reached.

The different levels are well designed and the difficulty progresses gradually. Maybe I would have put the rotating "stars" a bit later (for me they were, by far, the most difficult things to avoid… the later obstacles are more impressive but in the end not too difficult to avoid).

So, congratulations for making this nice game.

Also, I noticed something that looks like a bug: the fullscreen mode makes the levels much longer (at least on my computer), maybe twice as long or more (and the same patterns are repeating several times in each level).

Developer

Wow! I’m glad you made it! Good job!

Definitely I’ll tune some elements of the levels when the jam finish, such as the rotating stars that you mentioned.

About the longer levels on fullscreen mode, I couldn’t reproduce it but I will take into consideration for further updates. At the moment the way the floating objects are spawned relay on time, not on distance. It means that an object/block of objects are spawned after some time (seconds or ms) and not in a specific km. If you pick up a boost item for example, the character goes faster but the spawning keep the same pace. I ran out of time to improve the level design and some of them might be really small, so if you go fast you might see the level repeating since each level will loop until you reach the next one.

Thanks so much for your review and for playing! I really appreciate it.

Feels good to control, good to look, and the challenge is just at the right spot to keep you coming back until you do it! Loved it! The level design is good, you gave each level its own identity and distinct feel, playing through them feels different. I don't know what to feel about the repeating cycles in the levels, though. At one hand, it keeps things fresh in your mind enough for you to be able to subconsciously recognize those patterns and react to them, but at the other hand, it's recycled levels. I sincerely think the pros of repeating segments outweighs the cons in this case in particular. For the complaints, I would say that some obstacles are too big and prevent you from seeing what's ahead, especially the fans on meatgrindersphere. The heals and turbos hitboxes are also too small as well. But yeah, I think this is a nice submission overall. Excellent job!

Developer

Thank you so much for your feedback. I agree with you on every single point.

I tried to create a different flavor for every level but I didn’t have much time for testing purposes on the level design, so I decided to keep them in cycles for the jam version. To make the levels I created a wave generator that allowed me to set the initial version of the levels, when I have more time I’ll be able to tune them properly and add more details.

Most of the level obstacles are fixed, some of them though have a random factor for the position, so they might be positioned not in best location sometimes, I’ll try to fix that issue investing more time in the level design aspect.

Definitely I need to review the hit boxes and size of some obstacles, I probably made them too tight to the mesh.

Thanks so much for taking the time to play and provide such a good analysis, I really appreciate it :)

Hope this helps.

I tried a few more times and it worked. Great game with an awesome vibe to it! Only thing is I hope I can skip the intro.

Developer

Hi! Thanks for not giving up on playing! maybe itch.io was overloaded and could not load the page, so many people trying to play a lot of games at the same time :P

About the intro, definitely I’ll add that feature, in fact I’ve done it already but I don’t want to change the build until the voting period ends, I’m not sure if it will be against the rules of the event.

Thanks again!

I have never joined a jam before (in fact this is the first game I made) so I am not sure about that rule… I have already done a bug fix on the game, is this against the rule?

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

It looks like if it’s an important bug fix is not a problem, you can see it here in the FAQ. So don’t worry about it :)

Was a bit hard to judge if you where going to be hit by debris or not sometimes, but overall really nice! I like that there was a story around it and some promts for it :)

Thanks for your feedback! I really appreciate it! :)

I like the graphics, and how the moon is always in view and getting larger. Gameplay is good, couldn't beat it but it wasn't too difficult or frustrating.

Developer

Thanks for your kind words! I’m so glad to hear that even you didn’t beat the game, it wasn’t frustrating.

Nice game! I liked the music. Smooth gameplay. However, it gets too hard for me too quick. Maybe I need some practice.

:claps:

Thanks for playing and for your feedback! :)

Wow! Thanks for taking the time to make a gameplay video, it was really fun seeing you playing it. You got quite far, good job!

Good game i liked it

a pointer the intro should be skippable as i read pretty soon and then thinking maybe the game stuck i reloaded and had to wait again.

thumbs up

Developer

Thanks for the feeback! :) definitely I’ll add the skippable intro in the next build.

Got a unity loader screen and that's all, no matter how many time I wait... Pity

Developer(+1)

Hi xPheRe,

Please try to run it not in Incognito tab and disable add-blockers, I’ve notice that the Unity loader has trouble with that. I have tested it with several browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Opera) and works perfectly. Sorry for the inconveniences.

Submitted(+1)

Finally I could play disabling some plugins and blockers, thanks for the recommendation!

I really liked the robotic voice, and the debris here and there, though I found those hard to dodge, can't get past the half of the distance, haha. Great job

Developer(+1)

I’m glad to hear that you managed to play it :), thank you for taking the time and the feedback, I really appreciate it.

Great game. It is always a challenge to make a 3D game for a gam jam, but you defenitly nailed it. It is fun, has a story and the voice in the background is also very cool!

Developer

Thanks so much! I’m glad you like it and appreciate the effort!

Awesome opening music and the 3d flying/debris graphics. Good job !

Thanks a lot! :)

I really liked the theming and atmosphere of the game, but I had trouble telling how close the player was to objects, front-to-back-wise. I enjoyed the concept though, fun entry!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback! it’s very much appreciated!
