GAME JAM LAUT: INSPIRING OCEAN PRESERVATION THROUGH CREATIVE INNOVATION
After the great success encountered by Ocean Hackathon KL (2022 and 2023) and the SensARTS (Sensitization of Youth through Art, Science, and Technology) initiative in 2023, the French Embassy in Malaysia is launching SensARTS 2024 - Game Jam Laut. This friendly competition is designed to raise awareness about ocean preservation and will be taking place across four key locations in Malaysia: Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Terengganu (27th-29th September), and Penang (11th-13th October).
In each city, 3-5 multidisciplinary teams will be challenged to create a functional video game prototype within 48 hours, inspired by the research of a young scientist (PhD student or post-doc). Participants will receive guidance through masterclasses and mentoring sessions led by local and international experts. Each local edition will select a winning team to advance to the finals.
Finalist teams will have an additional five weeks and to refine their games, which will be showcased during a public festival on November 23rd in each participating city. The festival will culminate in the selection of an overall winner, based on votes from both the jury and the public. The laureate will receive a trip to France, offered by the French Embassy in Malaysia.
Game Jam Laut is organized and funded by the Embassy of France in Malaysia, in partnership with MMU, UNIMAS, USM-CEMACS, and UMT, and with strong contributions from UM, UMS, and Swinburne University.
It benefits from a special grant (Innovation Fund) from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEAE).
