I love the potential, but I hope you can take some time to do a performance pass on the client. I was really struggling to get playable framerates despite running on desktop (Intel i7 with integrated graphics, Ubuntu 20.04 LTS), and on Librem 5 it is incredibly blurry and I’m not sure I could’ve played past the employee signup sheet (which I thought was a cute idea, by the way).
The game looks nice but I dinged a star because I thought I read somewhere that you used an asset pack for the game. Please let me know if the assets are all original, in which case it’s a 5 star art for sure.
I’m really excited to have an open source Overcooked and hope you continue working on it!
Thank you for your feedback!
You could try lowering the graphics in the settings menu. When I turn off SSAO, AA and shadows on my laptop, the game runs with 90+ fps on integrated graphics. There's also a new lightweight 2D client in development, which is optimized for low-end devices such as the Librem 5.
We did use an asset pack as a basis, but many of the models, textures and sounds are original and were made specifically for this project.
We are also planning to continue adding features to the game in the future!
I love the name of the game.
This is really technically impressive. Even for four people, to do this in a month is a lot :). And the graphics are really impressive too, I was surprised when I realized I could pan the camera around.
I like the style of graphics. The visual style is consistent and fun.
The game mechanics are well-thought out.
The gameplay was simple after learning the recipes.
I look forward to trying this game with multiple players. This game would be fun in a party setting.
One map, a tree obscured my view of bags of flour.
It would be useful to have a “Help” section in the game that lists recipes and controls. The PDF was easy to understand.
The graphics glitched sometimes with characters displaying in the top left.
The tomato soup and sliced tomato look very similar while on a plate because the only difference is in color. Differentiating with more than just color would be helpful.
Adding controls that allow playing by clicking on the object I want to use and walking my character there automatically would be nice. I think the game would be more playable with mouse controls.
I could not figure out how to get black, burned food out of the pans. I thought the sink could clean them.
Slicing objects and cleaning plates took multiple tries each time.
