"TIM IT WAS JUST PICTIONARY!!"

Hello! Welcome to the Follin Brothers Inspired Jam!

Whether you know or not about Tim and Geoff's work in the videogame industry, you're welcome to learn new things and make something inspired by it!

About the Jam

In this jam, you will make something inspired by the works that involved (mostly) Tim and Geoff Follin. There's also Mike---who wasn't a composer, but rather a programmer at the time the brothers were still in the videogame industry---so if you want to get inspired by the games he programmed you can check a list of Mike Follin's work here!

If you want a playlist for the Follin brothers' music for inspiration, you may listen to ALL of their works here!

What is Accepted as an Entry in this Jam?

While we're mostly looking for videogames, here's the full list of things you can submit!

  • Videogames / Digital Games
  • Tabletop / Physical Games (We welcome any type of tabletop game! Doesn't necessarily have to be a TTRPG specifically)
  • Music
  • Asset Packs (Sprites, Backgrounds, UI, or VFX, to name a few examples)
  • Zines / Poetry / Literature

What is NOT Accepted as an Entry in this Jam?

  • Fangames
  • ROM hacks
  • Stuff made and published before the jam started (Working on something that was an idea before the jam or is a WIP that fits the "Inspired by the Follin brothers' works" theme is ok! Working on stuff specifically for the jam is also good!)
  • Stuff that directly uses the Follin brothers' intellectual property without permission (or that just uses anything copyrighted without proper permission overall)
  • Stuff NOT inspired by the jam's focus (If it's not Follin inspired, why submit it here of all places?)
  • Basically anything that is using copyrighted work without proper permission or that could get us in legal trouble; that's why the game jam says Inspired in the title! Get inspired by their work to make something new!

Late Submissions?

If you can't make it to the end of the jam (or if we see a lot of people haven't submitted their stuff yet), we will extend the end date of the jam manually.

We also accept late submissions if you couldn't finish your entry for the jam, even with the extensions! Just reach out to @Barbilou on Discord or let us know on the Magikya Studios Discord server.

Multiple Submissions?

Heck yeah, if you can and want, go for it! Just don't overwork yourself and be sure to rest properly when needed!

Can I Charge for my Entry?

Sure! You deserve to be paid for your work. Just make sure to follow the jam's rules and to provide enough community copies or a demo for other jammers to check out your work.

Also, if you make a paid entry and we cannot moderate it through a community copy, please either e-mail us or send us a copy manually so we can check everything in there respects the jam's rules. If we can't check the entry is in order, or we don't get a response from you, we will have to disqualify your game from the jam.

It's not obligatory to put a price tag on your work though; feel free to make your entry completely free or PWYW if you want!

Rules

  • NO bigotry. We don't welcome xenophobia, racism, LGBTQphobia, antisemitism, islamophobia nor any form of discrimination/hate groups in here.
  • NO NSFW. A little blood here and there and more mature themes are okay, but we won't accept sexually explicit content nor extreme gore for the jam.
  • NO Gen-AI stuff. If you can't make something, try looking for a teammate in the Magikya Studios server or on the Community Tab here! Or make stuff like programmer art! Like Rui Torres used to say: "You don't need to be an expert to be a great artist!".
  • NO crypto-promoting stuff.
  • NO spam submitting! However, you may submit your game to bundle jams or other jams overall as long as the entry fits those jams' rules aswell. If we find your entry to be spam, we will disqualify it from the jam (which will render it invisible in the jam entries page) and also report your account for spam.
  • Be respectful to the other jam members! This should be clear with the first rule, but I want to make sure.
  • This is a NON-RANKED Jam. There won't be prizes nor voting for this; just have fun making stuff!

I Have A Question!

Go ahead and ask any questions you have either on the Discord server or on the Community Tab!

A Tribute to Geoff Follin (1966-2024)

Sadly, one of the brothers that inspired the creation of this jam, Geoff Follin, passed away on May last year due to cancer. May he rest peacefully, wherever he is now... His legacy and memory will live on forever, that's for sure.

This jam sparked due to those news last year but life on the team has been busy and we haven't been able to host jams since our previous jam. Now that it'll be May again when the jam starts, we thought it'd be nice to host the jam during said month.

We want to make a Collection (*NOT a bundle) including all the entries for the jam so they can be showcased in the Magikya Studios' itch profile. We're a small team, but we would love to promote the games of this jam however we can! By joining and submitting you let us put your entry in the Collection.

Again, this is NOT a bundle. The collection will always be there for those who want to access it through magikya.itch.io .
