The interface is not intuitive. I think it should start with a guided tutorial (tells you exactly where to click and what each button does).
Also, I think the best strategy is to just add as many guns as you can. I think that you can even go in debt to buy more guns (I had -200 dollars at one point), so the money part is kinda pointless.
Hello! Welcome to Feedback Quest 6! My name's Hythrain, and I'm one of the hosts and streamers for this event! This feedback is being written live on my stream.
This is a fun idea, but in practice it doesn't work all that well as is. Weapons work regardless of everything else, so if someone makes, say, a gun and that's it, it'll drop and just shoot everything and likely win. There should be a minimum number of pieces required, along with certain pieces required as well. Perhaps make it that the face is an "engine" of sorts and has to be part of the design no matter what, and the more faces you have the faster your machine goes.
Beyond this, there should be means to edit and delete bosses you made. Similarly, it should be possible to remove joints and pieces. Right now, if you make mistake then your only option is to reset entirely.
I see a lot of fun potential in this, but it needs some practical changes in order to get there.
Also, there should be a default weapon that every player has. Blocks and face don't really seem like weapons.
Thanks a lot for the feedback and for having played the game Hythrain.
Yeah, in practice making this a predictable game that you can use strategy on is being complicated.
This idea you gave really makes a lot of sense, having the face be an engine of sorts, making it similar to the engine they have on Nimbatus.
We are working on the game and debating constantly how to make this more fun long term, your insights will be well used.
Cool Idea! But I think you need to work on the mechanics to make it more deterministic and understandable what would happen. As an example: If you create a robot only consisting of 2 spike balls without any connections, it will magically move around and win almost every fight.
Yes you are right on that, we have already some new stuff coming next week trying to make it more deterministic and with less OP strats
The game concept is interesting, but I couldn't really figure out how to play. I managed to get 2 circles and a bunch of rectangles linked together, but I didn't have any way to attack? I tried a fight and lost to some boss that had spiked balls that my boss couldn't do anything against.
I also wasn't really sure what the +5hp thing was when I dragged the circles and rectangles. I also tried pressing the arrow keys to rotate but nothing happened?
An interesting concept. I would love to see it in action. Unfortunately, it seemed to hang after I started my first boss fight.
Refreshing the page did help a little. The fight started, but there was only the enemy boss, and my boss didn’t appear in the arena.
I think this is because in the past there was a bug that players could create bosses with no pieces, so you stepeed into one of these, we will try removing them
Seems like an interesting idea but the UI needs to be simpler to be effective. Otherwise the complexity can overwhelm a casual player.
Not very intuitive and a bit clunky but very interesting concept. At first its very hard to know what and how to do things and boss creator was weird that I could not rotate things in drag mode but only in joint mode where it created unwanted joints that I couldnt figured out how to remove, also UI texts were changing to wrong ones, for example reset button had disable physics text ones which was very confusing, but overall I definitely see potencial here.
i had no idea what to do at first but once i got it i had fun playing! assets are cute but need work , i think thats the only criticism. it ran smoothly and wasnt buggy in the slightest! good job my dude!
Really cool concept but definitely a difficult new player experience. Once I got a hang of the controls, I started to have a ton of fun. The resolution on the web version is a bit rough as you have to scroll up and down to see all the UI elements. I assume the money going negative is to better facilitate testing but if not, I was able to go negative and then bet 10k that I didn't have. Resulted in me getting a ton of money off of a win though. Overall, fun game and I think the idea has a lot of potential!
Interesting game! I felt it this is a cool concept and has some good potential. Though I wanted to say the learning start time is kind of long, as it took me a bit to get an idea of what was going on. Like Ready2Run mentioned, maybe having some premade boss might help. Also maybe consider having a hand holding tutorial which walks the player through making their first boss and getting to the arena would help too. Best of luck to your game, and I await to see the updates :)
Hi. Fun little game. I think I kind of exploited that spiky wheel thingy with all the HP and I kept winning. I guess it’s not easy to balance it. But cool concept. Maybe there could be a small boss already configured for you when you start or some splash artwork that says make a boss, fight in the arena. I would make that like a stick figure animation when loading the game instead of the text since we have to wait for it to load anyway.
Really impressive system, I know getting multiplayer working in any form is not easy!
Yeah have to agree with the above, it's very hard to make anything clever with the way the joints work. Rotations don't seem to translate into the game. And on top of that, it's very unbalanced, there's so many ways to cheese the system. I think I have found an unbeatable strategy :P
Besides that, it's a really cool base and I hope you flesh out the building system because it's really fun!
thanks a lot for your review Oscar and I really liked your bosses there.
In the system there are actually different choices for joints, but we decided to hide that for now to make it more intuitive. There are joints that rotate, others that work like glue, we just thought the interface was already too cluttered and hid those features.
we are adding a new shield behavior to counter the machine gun OP strategy, we should be updating it this week.
I don't think I really figured out the building mechanics or strategy. I just gave the spiky thing all the HP, and it won almost every match, quickly earning 1M from bets. Maybe there should be some sample bosses to build on so stubborn non-tutorial people have something to tweak and play with to learn the mechanics. And maybe whatever I did shouldn't be possible.
thanks a lot for playing and for the feedback.
Yes, currently there is too much room for overpowered combinations, we should have new weapons coming soon to fix that so there can be also fun in strategy not only on creating the bosses.
I am also the kind of person that does not read tutorials lol ... I think a better UI would make it all more intuitive, we should be making gradual changes to see how no tutorial people react to it.
