Hey! Who here remembers the OUYA!

...(looks around in silence)...

...geez, don't all speak up at once.

Anyway, for those out of the loop, a company called Razer bought out the company behind the OUYA, and they're removing the ability to submit games for the OUYA platform in the last week of June. So I decided that a game jam would be a good way to see the platform off. Maybe a fresh influx of games will convince Razer to change their minds (though admittedly, probably not...) Come on, what do you say? Do you want to help give the OUYA one last shot at having that one awesome game it so sorely deserves?

RULES

  • Make a game that's playable on the OUYA, exclusive or otherwise
  • Do not create any assets before the jam starts. Planning story and drawing concept art is fine. Creating an empty base project is also fine.
  • Submit your finished game here, and preferably to the official OUYA store as well
  • Have fun!

All games will be rated based on the following categories:

  • Gameplay
  • Graphics
  • Sound
  • Innovation
  • Best Use of OUYA Features

FAQs

How do I get started with developing for the OUYA?
It's really simple! Where better to start than with the official developer information at https://www.ouya.tv/develop/ ? If necessary, it may also help to look at Youtube tutorials to learn more about your toolkit, especially if you're using an engine such as Unity3D or GameMaker. You may even be able to find tutorials specific for developing for the OUYA!

Do I have to release my game to the OUYA Store?

No, but I would highly recommend doing so, as it would increase your visibility to those outside of this jam, if only for a short while. Plus, it'd help add to Ouya's official software library!

Can I submit more than one game?

If itch.io allows you to submit more than one game, then you can. To be honest, I'm not sure if there's support for that. Regardless, I would recommend you spend the entirety of the time focused on one game, but I'm not stopping you from making more than one!
