Hello, creators, storytellers, and roleplayers! We're thrilled to invite you to Aexia’s third virtual reality (VR) role-playing (RP) Game Jam. This is a public event designed to inspire collaborative creativity and create roleplays that can help introduce people to the world of VR RP. If you are curious about how the previous Game Jam went, you can check it out here.

You will be matched together in small groups to join forces in creating RP games in Aexia. Not yet familiar with Aexia? No problem! Aexia is a VR platform for creating, sharing and playing VR role-playing games. More about us here.

This game jam is an event for you to show off your creativity. We want to see what you can do with Aexia over a week. You’ll work collaboratively with your team member(s) to bring your creative vision to life in Aexia by creating a stage and designing a role play to run on it. We hope you have fun collaborating on role-plays to be run in Aexia.

After the Game Jam is over, we will all have a few new roleplays to run in our community as part of our weekly VR roleplaying events hosted on Aexia’s Discord server.

We want to grow and learn together while creating fun VR role-plays within Aexia. Join us in crafting unique role-plays that go beyond the constraints of the real world. The Game Jam is an opportunity for you to work with like-minded enthusiasts to craft a unique experience while also helping Aexia improve as a platform for VR role-play.

Create and Collaborate as Teams

Work together to design VR Roleplays to play in Aexia. We welcome beginner and experienced creators to add their enthusiasm and creativity to this pioneering event. No programming skills are required!

Team Formation and Size

• 2 - 3 people per team (recommended)
• At least one GM per team
• Players will form teams (come with friends or get randomly assigned)

Theme

To be announced during the game jam opening.

Art Style

Pirate, Cyberpunk, SciFi, Modern City, or Fantasy themes (basic 3D assets available in Aexia’s beta). Ability to import your own 2D assets and audio.

Constraints

• No heavy mechanic games (Games should lean toward improv/LARP/role-play, not crunchy game mechanics)
• Games must accommodate anywhere between 2 to 10 players + 1 GM at a given session
• Games should last around 2 - 3 hours including pre-session orientation
• All games must work with Aexia’s existing Beta features

Prizes and Recognition

Participation comes with its own set of rewards! We have arranged a series of rewards and giveaways throughout the event, including:

• A chance to win a $50 Amazon gift card (3 raffles throughout the event)
• The best game(s) will be selected to run during our weekly VR roleplay events in the Aexia Discord Server

The winning team receives a unique honour - a custom digital Discord badge exclusive to the Game Jam victors. This badge serves as a token of recognition within the Aexia community, representing your innovative contribution to the VR RP universe;

Judging Criteria

• GM And Player Experience (Can players understand how the RP works? Did they have a good time?)
• Stage Design (How creative was the stage? How well did it supplement the roleplay? Did it take good advantage of user-generated content (audio and images)? Level design, look and feel, audio, lights, etc.)
• Roleplay Premise/Scenario (How did the premise captivate the players? How well did it impact the roleplay? How did the game mechanics support the roleplay's premise?)
• Documentation clarity (Is the documentation written clearly and easy to understand? Can a group pick up and play the roleplay without too much preparation?)

SATURDAY to WEDNESDAY - April 13th to 17th

• Team working time (Suggested game design/documentation, level design and playtesting)
• Check-in and preliminary feedback (Meeting with Aexia team to check in on progress and get preliminary feedback on the roleplay. To be scheduled based on the team’s availability)

THURSDAY - April 18th

• Suggested time for preparing assets for submission - 9 am to 2 pm PST
  • Game documentation (written content about the game)
  • Presentation slide deck (5 minutes presentation + 5 minutes Q&A sharp)
  • Final build for playtesting (Sharing 4-digit code)

FRIDAY - April 19th

• Game submission - 10 am PST
• Presentation day- 11 - 11:30 am PST
  • Time for roleplay concepts presentations (5 minutes presentation + 5 minutes Q&A sharp)
  • Go over the playtesting and judging process (Games will be playtested and judged throughout the week and the winning team will be announced the following Friday around 4 pm PST.)

• Announcement and Game Jam Closing - 11 - 12 am PST

FAQ:

WHY NOT HAVE THE GAME JAM OVER A WEEKEND?

We decided to extend the Game Jam duration from a weekend to a whole week in order to accommodate the people with busier schedules. Even though the Game Jam will span over a whole week, the total amount of work doesn’t increase and is estimated not to take more than 2 full-time work days to be completed.

DO I HAVE TO ATTEND ALL OF THE EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES?

It would be great if you joined us for all of the events and activities related to the game jam. However, we are trying to make the game jam as asynchronous as possible to accommodate everyone's schedules. Therefore, in case you can't make it to all of the activities, you have the following options:

• Watch the session recordings
• Ask someone from your team to represent you (It’s mandatory to have at least 1 person per team attend the opening day, presentation day and announcement day)

Mind that to join the gift card draw, you must be present at the given activities (Opening day, presentation day and announcement day)

CAN I BRING A FRIEND?

Yes! Feel free to invite your friends; if you want, you can choose to be on the same team. We’ll do our best to match anyone who signs up with a team based on preferences and experience.
