Theme (enemy)

1000 pigeons

Correlation to theme
Feel the wind whip around and behold! 1000 Pigeons, a truly formidable foe. You'll have to use everything you've learned in your journey so far to topple this feathery torrent of beaks and talons! ~~ 1000 Pigeons felt like a classic NES enemy encounter so I tried to do our feathered friends justice by using the limited (but creatively limitless) pallet of 8-bit sounds that the NES provided. I also tried to bring the high energy with a dash of melancholy that I felt were present in some of the best enemy encounters from that era.

I love it when the music takes off at 0'57". The melody is super catchy at that point.

And it's cool that you put appogiaturas on the melody of the next part, it gives a more lively impression to break up the mechanical side of the chiptune.

Solid composition

Thanks so much! I feel like some of my favorite music from the NES era made liberal use of appogiaturas and I wanted to pay tribute to that—really appreciate you noticing :)

Truly a jam! Good flow throughout the whole song. The sudden section change around 1:28 helps to bring out that bossfight vibe. The ADSR setting of those each noise based drum is perfect. They sound impactful yet alive. Absolutely neat!

Thanks so much! I really try to do right by the drums—thanks for calling that out!

Great entry that captures the pigeon energy with few to no pigeon references! I am also impressed by the variety of the music despite the limitation of the format used in your soundtrack!

The overall melody arrangement is catchy. It also feels relaxing and energetic at the same time! Some sections represent the nature of pigeons very well such as 0:58 (gathering), 1:27 (soaring/attacking), and 1:57 (flying/traveling). Using white noise as wind sounds to associate with pigeons is also a nice touch!

Thanks so much! I really tried to bring some energy and melody so I appreciate the feedback!

I really like the fact that this piece has a strong melodic element to it instead of piling on harmonies...i can totally see myself humming along and tapping my foot as my hands are sweating on the controller trying to beat the pigeons.

Thank you! I had a lot of fun coming up with the melody

The choice of NES 8-bit sound doesn't seem easy... but you've produced a song with interesting style on these birds.

Nice music!

Thanks! I always have a lot of fun with NES 8-bit sound and incorporating 1000 pigeons into was definitely interesting :)

I think it would have added a lot if you gave the melody instrument some wavering. It would make the longer notes more interesting and I think it would fit well thematically too since it would be like soaring slightly up and down.

Thanks for the feedback and thanks for listening!

Chiptune and such are never my favorite sounds to listen to, but so now and then you find someone who can yield them well. I think you did an impressive job! It is especially hard to make the song represent birds, but I think the sounds you start and end with nicely represent gusts of wind. I love the transition at 1:27; just when I got a bit bored of the melody, you nicely transitioned away from it, and for a nicely long duration too (I often hear songs that make a transition just to sadly return almost immediately). Overall, quite nicely done :D
