Astoundingly good. Super duper turbo well done. Unlike the voice acting in my game, yours was stellar! :)
I really like the story of this one (I was able to watch the story via Manisha's stream), And I gave the gameplay a try myself and it was very fluid and worked well. The only issue I noticed was that sometimes the golems wouldn't return back to another position once I froze. Nice work, especially the voice acting
Glad you enjoyed the story and decided to give it a play as well! For the enemies sometimes not returning, its a bug for them to not immediately go back, and I don't really know a solution to it. However, it may be consider a feature too as it can give some personality to the enemies like maybe one is still suspicious before returning back lol. Thanks for playing the game!
I was very excited to check this game out seeing your in-progress shots, and the product blew me out of the water! I love the enemy designs and the simple yet effective mechanics that kept me in the moment, engaged, and having fun the whole time.
Additionally, I LOVE the dialogue, the branching endings, and especially the voice acting. That was a wonderful touch that really enhanced the experience and left me wanting to understand more about this mirror creature...
Ahh glad I was able to impress despite spoiling some of the content in my updates! I'm also very happy to hear you was very immersed in the gameplay and story! Thanks for playing our game
Very well could be top 5 most polished games in this jam! Kudos to you on the voice acting and the design.
Giving top grades for most things here lol
Ayyee top 5 is huge! Thank you for your generosity!
This was a really well made game, seems well polished and you got a lot done in the short time given. I love how you went to the extra effort of recording voice instead of just text. Music fits well and the art is really cool. One of my faves I've seen so far well done
Thank you! Yeah I knew some people interested in voice acting and I knew how to easily implement it, so I felt like I needed it in the game to really sell its story together. Glad its one of your faves!
Magnificent! Really cool game! Loved it!
The art, the voice acting (loved the distorted voice of the mirror, specially that second voice over that sounds high pitched) the sound effects, everything was great!
Loved the design of the very last creature too! (hint hint)
Ayyee thanks for playing! Glad you enjoy the audio and the art! The creature design I knew I needed something with 4 limbs, big, threatening, and similar to the other enemies and after some references it became alive!
First off, it's amazing to find a fully voice acted game in a game jam. What a nice surprise! It added so much to the experience as well.
The enemies are a very cool idea for a sort of Zelda-dungeon style enemy. I noticed after a while that they can't catch up to me, so I never really had to freeze and just ran through all the levels. It works if you don't run towards them too much. Because of this strategy, the second enemy was not a challenge at all... However, it was still not trivial and I had a lot of fun trying to ourmaneuver all the enemies, and sometimes I did have to freeze still.
The whole game is very on point with the freeze theme, with the gameplay, art, music and narrative of course. Nice job producing a very unified game with a bigger team!
Oh also, I really loved the option to go back. Unfortunately I pressed enter and so accidentally chose the same ending again, and after that I couldn't go back anymore lol. Also gotta love the Skyrim joke ;)
Thank you for a detailed review! Glad it was able to convey the theme in many ways and that the voice acting caught you off guard! As for the enemies not being able to catch up, it was a decision I made as when they were the same or faster than the player it became exponentially harder. Especially if the enemies follows you into the next area making that section even more challenging. I was hoping the less speed would make the experience a lot easier, but also not too easy and from what you wrote it seems I accommodated that balance. Thanks for playing our game!
True, I think if the enemies were faster the game might be impossible to beat haha. I tried a kind of stop-and-go strategy before that and it didn't work so well. so that's why I resorted to just running through.
Very nice entry. The cutscenes at the mirror and the voice acting set the mood well. The story bits were well paced also. I think It got a little too difficult once you had 3 or more enemies coming at you from different directions but the mechanics are solid so it was fun!
Thank you! Glad the cutscenes and voice acting set the feel of the game! Yeah it can get challenging when surrounded, but glad you found the mechanics fun!
Brilliant work on the audio! Well polished overall and an interesting freeze mechanic with the ice creatures. Found a bug btw, one of those creatures followed me to the door with a timer, and I decided to stop and wait to lock him out. There was a collision between the door and Felix, which stopped him being able to move. An ironic twist on the freeze theme, perhaps?
Glad you enjoy the audio and mechanic idea! Yup the AI's getting stuck is a feature lol. I did made sure to prevent Felix from getting stuck due to many trial and error, unless you meant Felix got stuck?
Yeah Felix got stuck, the door closed and his legs were in collision with the top right corner of the door. Walking animations worked fine, he just couldn't move!
Damn, I guess I miss a spot when trying to fix that issue. Thanks for mentioning this!
I'm pretty flabbergasted at the quality of this one. I mean excellent voice acting, amazing audio effects, a full original story, multiple endings. Pretty good stuff here.
**Also, the mirror man is a trustworthy fellow don't believe what the others might say ;)
Glad you enjoyed it! The mirror is a good guy, I don't know why people are saying these things ;)
So good! I appreciate being able to go back at the end to quickly see what the other ending was. Great work!
Thank you for playing!
Glad you got the "Go back" option so I could try the other ending, awesome game! Good job!
Yup, wanted to make sure players can see everything in the jam. Thanks for playing!
Fun game! Very polished overall and I like how you were able to incorporate a story. Great job!
Thank you for playing! The story I'm very proud to make it to fruition!
Woww team, you outdone yourselves with this game. I enjoyed everything about it:
Art 10/10: Great job with the pixel art, and the voice overs were amazing. As aI always say: this little details give me life :D. The concept design for the enemies were very cool. Sfx and music very nice.
Level Design 10/10: Great level design, never frustrating nor easy. A perfect difficulty curve. Great introduction to each enemy and its mechanic and fun experience to mix and match the mechanics at the end.
The history 10/10: SPOILER: I got fooled and proceeded to merge with my reflection :(, I knew I should'nt trust that guy (πーπ)
Great job (^v^)
Thank you for the 10 out of 10 review, very happy to see you enjoyed our work a lot! The art I made sure to be very expressive since there's not much new scenery or fancy animations being shown here. For the concept design of the enemies I made some interesting lore before designing them, for example in ending 2 you can see a little hint of lore of the 1st enemy when the player gets grabbed. The mirror guy is pretty convincing, I was hoping the visuals on the last door and the voices of level 2 could help wavier the trust, but the mirror is just too good. Thanks for playing!
Very interesting story. I really liked the two different endings. Overall an engaging and fun little story driven game.
Thanks! The story was only fully fleshed out thanks to the theme being freeze! Glad the two endings are enjoyable! As the last jam I did, the endings felt very eh, so I didn't want to repeat that again.
dude, you forgot to hold the break in your quality, because there's nothing else here but pure quality content. got the bad ending tho, or is it, tun dun dun!
Thank you! We had a vivid view of the story, so we knew what we wanted to draw or sound out to make this the best it could be. Both endings could be the good or the bad, who knows......
Very polished. I can tell a lot of love went into the smaller details. I did find the combat a bit repetitive, but I enjoyed the story aspect and how you made it based around the theme.
Glad you enjoyed the story and little details! Yeah I was afraid of it might getting repetitive after the first two levels since the mechanic is very simple, but I already committed through via story and time, so I tried to make the levels not too long to accommodate the slight repetition. Thanks for playing!
Nice game you got here!its quite ambitious for a game jam game to have voice acting, multiple endings but you pulled it off flawlessly,Hats off!
Thanks! Its 1000 percent ambitious, but I had a week off of work to pull this off and I didn't have to worry about making audio. I also mess around with voice acting in the last jam, so it was smooth sailing in setting that up again. Thanks for playing!
you're welcome!i would love to know what you think of my game too
good game!
Thank you!
the best thing is the gameplay is so smooth and the voice acting. The ending is really good but I got the wrong ending -_- excellent work dude : )
Thanks for playing. glad to hear the gameplay and voice acting played out really well! Damn, but at least you can still experience both endings with the go back button.
A back button 😅 ? I restarted the game a second time entirely to see both 🤣
Yup in the thanks for playing screen, there's two button "Go back?" and "Proceed". Regardless, restarting the game lets you see the subtle hints even more like the voices and the Mirror's response to it for instance!
