Amazing! :D Very solidly put together and aesthetically beautiful! :)

Developer

Thanks so much for giving it a try! Glad you enjoyed ^.^

WHAT ON EARTH? I’m blown away with everything you two have managed to accomplish with this. It looks beautiful (both the pixelated 3d artwork and the 2d character art), the vibe is on point, boating on the water and exploring the lake is so much fun, the magical spells are all cool and have nice effects. This is just chef’s kiss. Wonderful wonderful game, great job.

I think the only thing that I could give feedback on was that turning the boat around in tight bays was a bit tricky at times, and adjusting to the idea that left == boat left (not screen left) threw me off a couple of times, but I think in the end I liked it working that way, just took some practice.

Congrats to you both, I hope you decide to keep working on this.

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! I'm really glad you enjoyed and appreciated the crunch we went through haha! Good feedback on the boat, it needs a lot of tweaking. I was also thinking about just resetting the boat position when you get out, so it faces outwards from the dock. This will minimize the amount of tight turns, hopefully. We're definitely gonna work on a post-jam version of the game, and while it will likely not boast new quests and parts of the world, it will include a lot of polish that we didn't have time for in the jam. Extra particle effects, SFX, better boat physics, maybe a smoother camera system, maybe even a little bit of extra music (hopefully looking at you @peabeaz 0.0 hehe). Anyway, thanks for the kind words!!

Great job! i like the low poly graphics, the sounds, the  story and the mechanics, the only thing i can say is some collisions with the camera and maybe be better with a turn around camera but i like it a lot, very nice vibe!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for the good feedback and playing the game! We'll definitely give take a look at the camera system. Cheers!

A nice RPG game, the musical choice was especially good and it was relaxing overall.

Only major thing is the camera, though I'm not sure what other method would be good, maybe on rails or fixed points, but it would have been nice to be able to have it move just a little bit to see a bit further.

On a bug note though, I thought I could try standing in the mushroom as it grew to get up faster... I just got stuck. I guess removing the collider of the stem to play safe if you ever do a Jam plus

Developer

Heya, thanks for giving it a go! Great feedback, we'll keep it in mind for a post jam version. Regarding the mushroom collider, I kinda knew that it might give some problems but didn't have time to adress them, so that'll be another priority.  Glad you liked the gameplay and music :) cheers!

List of complaints:

  • no player freedom (couldn't choose to let grandma die)
  • music makes me feel like I'm on in a pleasant adventure game, not a raging grapple on the seven seas
  • hat color is the best color
  • no handbrake on boat
  • cannot burn down forest
  • cannot supersize boat into Blackbeard's pirate ship
  • ravens wing are amazing fantasy plants and don't look anything like tomatoes
  • character art is too good
  • invisible boundaries didn't allow me to explore the farthest corners of Middle Earth
  • I feel extremely satisfied and cozy after completing this game. Would not recommend if that's not your thing.

(sarcasm implied! ^^)

In all seriousness, I really enjoyed this adventure. By pure luck, I decided to skip the mushroom dock and ended up completing it flawlessly linear, but I like how (after the tree), you can go to each of the docks freely and may have to return there if you don't have the correct skills. I think the only VERY SLIGHTLY frustrating part was the wide turning radius of the boat - it had me doing some five point turns haha - no biggie though. I also would've liked a larger camera view (maybe only when you're boating?) to make you feel like a little person in a big world.

The modeling of the important elements was done really well, and the artwork was amazing. The music also fit, so all of the artistic elements tied the experience together seamlessly.

Another commenter called this game "magical", and I think that describes it perfectly.

"Sir you have been banned from every writing comments again" XD

But seriously tho, thanks so much for giving it a go and I'm super glad you enjoyed! Good job on flawlessly playing the game haha. Very valid feedback and we'll definitely address that in the post-jam build. The weekend has been a blur but I'm very glad you said the world feels well modeled because I've never done this much art in 3 days haha. Glad you also liked the music, I agree @Peabeaz did an amazing job on that!

We will consider adding an illegal middle earth ripoff DLC. Cheers!

Really magical. I LOVE the pixelate shader and the music is really, really well done. It took me few minutes to get used to the camera angle, I had the urge to look around. All the important elements of the game are exposed and stand out. Well, when I grew the mushroom, I missed the road up the hill, and was swimming around looking for other spells and ingredients, until finally came back and looked around properly. Also, I think the boat is not easy to use. It acts as if it has spinning wheels. In my opinion, it would be better to just let the boat turn in place. Overall, I really liked it. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for giving it a go and giving this great, detailed feedback! It will really help us improve the game for the post-jam release ^^ The camera angle was a bold choice made early on, and later in the dev. process we couldn't go back as the whole world was designed to be seen from one angle. The path up to the mushroom not being very obvious was also mentioned by someone else, so that's a point I'd like to fix for sure. And yeah... the boat! It's pretty clunky >:) I intentionally modeled it after a car, but I think having it spin in place would be better yeah (it can be really frustrating now). Anyway, thanks for giving it a try, cheers!

Really like the graphics and the opening dialogue was a nice touch. Atmosphere is really nice, a lot of care and attention went into this, would be nice to have some sound effects and visual effects when casting spells however, good job overall!

Developer

Thanks for playing and giving feedback. Glad you liked it :) Extra sound and particle effects are on the list for a post-jam build! Cheers!

This game looks really good, and I think the mini map was a perfect touch. And I think the player intuitively follows a path that teaches them about the games mechanics at a great pace. Like when I went upstream to find the mushroom and it says I need a grow spell, I'm like ok I need to head back to the boat to find that spell. It felt like everything had a simple purpose that ties to the progression of the game. Well done!

Developer

Thanks so much, I'm glad it worked out that way and glad you enjoyed. Cheers :)

I absolutely loved every second of this. The concept is really cute, the progression is simple but rewarding, and the visuals and overall atmosphere are amazing. It somehow made me feel nostalgic for something I've never even experienced before. I love the variety of spells and how they're used, and it was fun seeing all the icons in the top right slowly light up.

The only complaint I have, and it's a pretty small one too, is that the trees' shadows sometimes make it hard to tell where you're going, especially when you're in the water. There were a few times where I got my boat stuck up against a wall under a shadow and couldn't quite tell which way I needed to turn to get out.

Overall though, this was a really great time. I'd love to see a full length game in this same style.

Developer

Thank you so much for the thorough feedback and kind words. I'm really glad you enjoyed it so much! Good point about the shadows, I would have never thought of that. The boat can be... let's say janky at times haha. Unfortunately we didn't have more time to polish the boat movement so you get stuck quite a bit. Thanks for playing, cheers!
