I loved all the mini-games! That ending surprised me though! Great work!

I really like the minigames and wish I could have played more of them. Art and music was great!

Thank you for your nice feedback! And I’m glad you liked the game.

This game manages to simultaneously be the most and least cozy game I have played this jam, and I think it's a masterful accomplishment. Every line of dialogue felt deliberate in growing the world into something mysterious; just as a child's world, on their first lone outing, grows big and scary.

The minigames were simple but worked. I liked that listening to the NPCs was rewarded. The leaf raking was a creative use of a physics engine. I liked that you had to move along roads in the minimap.

Thank you! This is one of my favorites in the jam.

Thank you very much for such a warm review! I’m very glad that you liked the game. It means a lot to me and I appreciate it.

I like the variety of tasks/minigames that were included. The rustic setting makes these tasks feel appropriate and it would make sense that the child should do something for the person in order to gain the item.

I like the artwork and the leaf falling effects on the trees. The music is optimistic and joyful. It was a little tedious to advance the textbox for dialogue that could have fitted into the same line. A possible improvement could be to expand the dialogue box to accommodate 3 lines instead of just 1.

The story had some build up, but the ending felt a abrupt to me. The build up felt like it was towards a specific character, but the actual affected character at the end felt completely out-of-the-blue. I can understand the possible cause, but I did not see the actual logical events that would result in this character being targeted. Some additional foreshadowing might have made the ending more palatable.

A short quest with various minigames to make a delicious pumpkin pie.

Thanks for your feedback!

When creating the story, I was guided not only by the palette and theme of the jam, but also by the optional “detective mystery” mechanic too. And to make the game somewhat consistent with the mechanic, I made an ending that was not fully revealed, which could give the player something to think about.

And yes, I can agree with you that perhaps there should have been a little more hints that could have shed more light on the ending (during development, I thought that the hints I left were enough).

I hope you enjoyed the game at least a little and thank you again for playing and feedback.

I love the music and the artwork, they give this really nice fun and cozy storytime vibe that I quite like! The minigames were quite fun as well, though I ended up finding the old man's photo immediately lol. I think my only complaint would be the dialogue as there are so many dialogue boxes you have to get through, with the majority of them just being ... , that it becomes quickly draining, but I did quite like the small story here! Good job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for such a nice review! And thanks for the suggestion regarding dialog boxes, I will definitely take it into account when updating the game.

Wait where did MOM go?!?! Really nice cozy game with cute mini games, I especially liked the leave raking one that was really well done. I would double or triple the text box size so you can fit more text than one line. With the text coming one by one it took quite a long time to get through each conversation and I found myself spamming the E key to get through them fast enough. A bigger text box would make it easier to get through a lot of the story. Great game! Solo Dev FTW!

The whole game felt really lighthearted and cozy. The included minigames were nice too. That ending though.. it felt like a real shock! I enjoyed this a lot.

A very complete and compelling experience, and -- oh man -- what a twist. I wanted to badly to see that kitchen to be full of life and light... well done

Loved how you squeezed in a few different mini games. Cute artwork and cozy vibes! I need to know what happens next!? Amazing work :)

Oh my god..

The game is overall nice and cute but the movement was sooo slow. The dialogues were almost never ending. I kept playing just out of curiosity of what minigames are there and was skipping through the dialogues by smashing E. But the arriving to the dark house. I finally was interested in the dialogues and it made feelings in me. This game I definitelly won't forget. I don't mind bad endings but this was just out of nowhere. Wow. You managed to make some feelings in me... :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your feedback. I understand that games with a lot of text may not be suitable for everyone, everyone has their own taste, that’s okay. And I’m glad that I managed to interest you at least a little, thank you for playing to the end.

Submitted(+1)

No problem, it was worth it :)

The art and music choice are great! Story is charming, but i was shocked with the ending to be honest... I love the minigames, especially the get-rid-of-leaves one. I Think that looking for the photo could be more interesting by splitting the photo in multiple, cus it was too easy to find, in my opinion.

Overall, you've done great, keep it up!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for such a nice review! I agree that the mini-game with finding a photo needs to be made more difficult, but when creating it, on the contrary, I was afraid to make this mini-game too difficult, so I tried to simplify it as much as possible, which in the end made it too easy :)

Very cute game and very satisfying to finish!

The visuals and the music are pretty welcoming. I enjoyed the atmosphere until the end. The ending, though, did make the game feel much less cozy. It was done masterfully, yet left a sour aftertaste. There was a feeling of something going wrong after the forest ended so easily. I loved the minigames, they are relaxing and friendly.

Developer

Thanks for your feedback!

In fact, there was supposed to be a mini-game in the forest, too, but the forest was the last location I worked on late at night, a few hours before the deadline for submitting projects. I was very tired and wanted to sleep. That’s why I left the forest just as a location and not a mini-game.

This is completely my fault, I didn’t time it well.

I loved the whole thing. Art, music, gameplay. The only thing I wish was there was a dash button during the apple catching game to help when I wanted to get from one side to the other quickly. Aside from that the pacing overall felt kinda slow, but I get why. The twist at the end was kind of crazy. Really great work on this whole thing though.

I thought the map movement was really interesting as well.

Also sometimes I wouldn't notice that there was a conversation happening for a few seconds of holding a direction and having nothing happen then noticing the text at the bottom.

Still overall fantastic job. I am curious as to what happened to the mother however. I saw you said there were hints, a true mystery added in. Since you went a little horror-esque something stalking you in the woods would have been interesting, but not cozy haha.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for your feedback! Maybe I should add something like a hint in the UI when to skip the dialogue. Anyway I’m glad you like the game.

Submitted(+1)

Feedback on the buttons would be nice too.

As for the text, I think it was only when I was leaving the forest when I didn't notice the message appear at the bottom of the screen when I got back to the map. It just kind of blended in a little bit.

A really lovely game! Art and game play were satisfactory for me. The story?? DOPE!! You know how to do a twist, for sure! You did a great job picking the jazzy soundtrack. It was not loopable but sounded good along with the art. Congrats! I can't vote but would give a great rate for you!

My piece of feedback is to lock the forest (with a simbol or at least a dialogue saying you're too afraid to get there yet)

Developer

Thank you for such a wonderful review!

As for the forest, I wanted to somehow visually show that the forest is closed for now, I left it for later so that I could work on more important aspects of the game, but when I already remembered I didn’t have time to add it, so I left it as it is now. :)

I agree with others about the minimap collisions and player speed. But it's a nice little game! The leaf raking game gave me a chuckle as I considered whether or not we were raking the leaves into her neighbor's yards haha

Developer

Thank you for your nice review! And I’m glad you liked the game. xD

Great game! I loved the art and map and mini games. There might not have been time for the amount of polish that you would have liked as most of us probably feel but this is still something that's most impressive. Great work on this, can definitely see how some more polish could take this to feeling like a more complete release

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your feedback! You are absolutely right, I had plans to do a lot more (like making the mini-games more elaborate and complex), but all because of my poor time management.

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

I am impressed with fitting in three different mini games in a 2 week jam.
I was worried about the leaf raking one (with the physics) , but it turned out to be easy enough to accomplish, and was my favorite mini game.

I would recommend locking the forest until you get the other ingredients, instead of just trusting the player to go there last. I liked the path and walking animations, but the first time I arrived at the farm, I thought I accidentally was going back home for a bit.

I didn't like the twist ending, because it wasn't foreshadowed with the dialogue, or rest of the mood of the game.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for your feedback!

I know that there are particularly curious players who will want to go to the forest first, so I closed the forest, as you wrote (you most likely did not check) :)

As for the ending, maybe you’re right. (but in fairness, I still left a couple of indirect references that may clarify the ending a little: in the dialogue with the mother herself at the beginning and in the dialogue with the windmill worker).

Anyway, thanks for the criticism, I really appreciate it.

Submitted(+1)

The theming, art, use of colors, and music is great! I really liked the story and dialogue. The twist ending really caught me off guard. I also really appreciated the smaller things that add to the polish, like the falling leaves, layering, and the moving windmill.

I do have a few suggestions. I think the text could have used sound effects; like when skipping to the next line of dialogue.

In my opinion, I think the minigames were too easy. Maybe a time limit for each of them would have worked well. They were still enjoyable, but the picture minigame was pretty basic.

You did an amazing job on this! I thoroughly enjoyed playing.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your feedback and criticism!

I had plans to add sounds for dialogue (even so that each character would have their own), but as you might guess, I didn’t have enough time.

What about the mini-games, initially I planned to make them much more elaborate and complex, but I also didn’t calculate my time. So, I simplified them as much as possible, just to at least have time to add them to the game.

I really appreciate your opinion and feedback in general, thank you again.

Submitted(+1)

I like the visuals with the music.

One tiny thing: I didn’t see [E] to continue the dialogue at the start, so I had to mash and find out.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you! Then after the evaluation period I will change this to “Attention! Click here please to skip the dialog” xD
