a post apocalyptic horror game about vampires fleeing persecution at the end of the world

a two player tarot game charting the doomed romance between a vampire and their mortal lover

a larp about dracula's thralls attempting to unionize their workplace without drawing the suspicion of their boss

the children of the night jam is a 1-month tabletop roleplaying game jam hosted by amber autumn faebrooke and violet bakewell, stewards of several previous jams, focusing on stories about vampires. vampires as a theme have a long history in ttrpgs, and have been used to explore all kinds of ideas such as disability, sexuality, and memory - but we believe there is still a huge amount of space left to explore.

that's where you come in.

requirements

your game may feature vampires as the player characters, or as antagonists, or may not even feature vampires as characters directly at all - as long as the game is *about* vampires in some capacity. the role of vampires in your game may be as sources of horror, as tragic figures, as erotic forces, or as something completely different. maybe your vampires are hideous bestial figures who can never show their face in human society, maybe they're sparkly heartthrobs who play baseball in the woods, maybe they're ordinary people just trying to deal with their condition as best they can. the only requirements are that your game is:

  • a physical game
  • made by you
  • made during and for this game jam
  • featuring vampires as a central element

awards

during each of our game jams, we like to award a few games with special commendations! you can put it on your game's itch page or what have you. we won't be judging what the "best" games are - instead, we have five different awards a game can win, each focusing on a different element of design.

  • best visual design
  • best writing
  • most affective core system
  • most original mechanization of a classic vampire trope
  • most unique interpretation of vampirism

these categories will be judged by the two game jam cohosts. in order to reduce bias, when someone one of us knows submits a game, we'll lean primarily on the other one of us to evaluate that game. we'll try not to give any one game multiple prizes, but it may depend on the submissions we get, and one person may receive prizes for multiple submitted games.
