Insane graphics, im jealous. Great audio. Feel some of the platform jumps, paticularly on lvl 1, which is supposed to be the intro is a bit tight personally. A simple jumping animation could add a lot. Otherwise really well done. 5/5.

Developer

Thanks a lot for your feedback! :)

Developer

5/5?  Wow!  Thanks so much!  I’ll make sure to check out your game as well.

This game was great all the way through, from the music and art, to the tight platforming, to the genuinely surprising elements (the cat statue really made me jump the first time!)

Like someone else said below, many of the games in this jam have taken the lie element too far, and have made the game unfair or frustrating (unfortunately I think ours unwittingly falls into this category...) but you've managed to make the game hard (and keep the lying element) but fair, as once you know something will get you it remains consistent, meaning the player can learn to deal with those elements. The only thing I would say is that as far as I could tell (although I might be wrong) there was no way to tell if an exit was correct or not, meaning a lot of replaying the levels (including some tough platforming sections).

All in all, a very juicy, very fun game, 5/5 from me! Well done!

Developer

Thank you so much for the kind words and for your feedback on the exits! :)

Developer

Thanks!  Yeah the theme was a bit difficult to work with without making the game obnoxious and mean.  I’m really happy to hear you think we pulled it off!  Really appreciate your comments and the 5/5 rating!  I’ll be sure too check your game soon if I have rated it already

This was awesome!!

Developer

Thanks!

I really like how although the game lies to you about its rules, but the rules of the game are still clear and consistent. There are a bunch of other platformers in this jam that have unfair level design, and although it makes sense because "you're being lied to", it's not a fun experience. In this game however I feel like you nailed it because the game does lie to you but the game still feels fair, and I never got frustrated! Well done!

Game design aside, the graphics and audio are very juicy, it get's a 5/5 from me.

GG!

Developer

Thanks so much for your kind words and generous rating! :)  I'll check out your game tonight.

Developer

Thank you for your kind feedback!

Developer

Wow another 5/5!  This is incredible!  Thank you so much!

Great graphics and amazing audio!
I love the outrun/Tron-like style, the character and environment look awesome!
The music is really great as well. I especially love the breakbeat track ^^.
As for the gameplay, the platforming controls and camera handling are okay-ish (alright but a lot could be improved). Also, I realize it was for the theme, but the trial and error gameplay loop is pretty lame in my opinion :/  (Although the "YOU WIN" screen and victory music did make me laugh the first few times ^^)
The theme is pretty strong though and overall it's one of the better games I've seen on this jam! Great job!

Also, check out my game if you want, it's a disguised platformer as well!

Developer

Hey, thanks for the feedback! I'll definitely check out your game tonight!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! It’s funny you bring up Tron, because the original music for the menu screen was inspired by the Overture theme from Tron.  We ended up going with a faster paced theme for the menu instead.

In the first lap my car was way ahead of the AI but in second lap it suddenly crossed me and defeated me... that was soooo lit.

Thanks! The artist was @audments_art  . She’s amazing!

Developer

Thank you so much for taking a look, Saleh! I'm glad you liked the art.

I unfortunately don't have windows, so I am unable to play your game. :(
I would feel strange rating it based only on art alone. But I am happy to look at the screenshots on your entry page and leave a comment on what visuals I can see over there. :)

I really like the clicky feedback when you are navigating through the menus. I will definitely take cues from the way you did your menu. The credits screen is really nice too.

I really like the initial twist that it isn't a racing game. I do wish you even made fake screenshots of a racing game for the Itch.Io page. I even memorised the fake controls and everything lmao.

The game looks cool and I really like the cute fox guy in a helmet. The animations are satisfying for the game and I love the movement.

The gameplay feels fun and I love that despite being a troll platformer, the rules are consistent enough to not be frustrating. I even like how the fire pits are telegraphed. I like the fake exits as they force exploration of the level and I do like that you can infer that the exit is often the furthest from the starting point but not always. I like how it creates a non linear platforming style especially with the double jump.

Outrun synth furries are great. I like this game a lot.

I do like the music quite a bit and I am glad every level has a unique track although I do wonder if it's too high tempo for a platformer.

My feedback might just be that I wish you had a higher view range or a way to shift the camera but otherwise this game is fun and kinda funny. I love how it repeats at level 1 and you get unique dialogue for that level and it made me wonder if I had to do the levels again for a secret. The fact the game was fun enough that I played it all over again when the game looped is a good sign.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for playing and for your awesome feedback!

Your feedback is great! Thanks so much! Yeah I agree, I think we should pull the camera back a little so you can see more area around the player. Great feedback thanks again!

Really awesome game! The art, music, theme, controls and everything else fits perfectly. I had much fun playing it. Great job!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks so much!  Checking your game now!

Submitted(+3)

This was a really awesome game. I enjoyed it a lot! The graphics were stunning. The music really fit the game and the controls were really responsive. I also really liked the double jump particles, although at first I didn't know you could do that! The level art was beautiful as well!

The UI was clean and readable, the hitboxes were perfect, and the animations were amazing. The game fits the theme really well. I really enjoyed it!

Though the exits are a bit misleading when you have so much wrong ones in later levels, but the other lies add to the game in a nice little fun way, and the death sound really matches its lie counterpart.

Overall a really great game! :D

Developer

Thanks so much for the kind words and feedback, Game Genesis! :)

I was really hoping for a racing game but got a surprisingly fun platformer! Really liked it! Ended up finishing it!

Me: "Oh no, is this another platformer with hidden platforms and obstacles?"

Game: "No, this is a race game. Well actually it's a platformer, but still no."

Me: "But do I get sent all the way back to the beginning of the game, when I die?"

Game: "What no? That would be terrible game design!"

Me: "Okay, finally a decent platformer."

All joking aside, this has been the best platformer I've played so far. I've rated around 115 games at the moment and I would say about 40% has been platformers. So well done. However, I do have some feedback.

Let's start with the good. This jam there have been two types of games: games that fit the theme and games that were fun; somehow this game is both. This is because the lying in your game doesn't ruin the user experience. The lies are consistent, which kinda means there not really lies anymore (but rules). Shit, I guess this game doesn't fit the theme that well after all ;-).

The art is also great and the music is pretty good as well. It's also a nice touch that you can restart by pressing any key, when you're in the restart menu. Jump with space or W is also nice. The flame jump was also pretty cool.

Now onto the things that can be improved, starting with an obvious one. There is no way to tell the real exits and the fake exits apart. This means that it's just trial and error, rather than skill. The real exit is also a bit hard to find in level 2. However, in level 4 and 5 you guys went nuts. There are so many exits it's incredible that I picked the correct ones at the first or second try. Don't make the player feel like there is no end to your madness of fake exits.

Overall pretty nice and I would like to play more levels, as long as they're not filled with dozens of exits.

Developer

Thank you for your jokes and your lengthy feedback ! It helps us to improve!

Submitted(+3)

Wow this one was a lot of fun. Platforming felt responsive, with appropriate hitboxes on obstacles and not trying to go too far with the lies.
The art isnt really coherent but good on individual objects, especially animations.
The music is very nice, and so are the sfx, so great job on that.
UI looks great, nice and polished and really fits a sci-fi racing game haha.
You did a good job implementing lie obstacles like others have tried because yours are learnt: that is, in each new level there's some kind of new obstacle and you learn that it's an obstacle so that in the final level it's not about discerning lies anymore but simply about platforming: I think that's great: the gameplay evolves with the levels and that's hard to achieve. The exit lie though can feel a bit grindy on the last level so be careful with that.
I just have complaint on the placement of some objects, such as the two platforms with gems places close together on the last level over spikes: I slid many times down the tiny space in between the two when I shouldnt have (until I realised you could double jump across both). Also, sometimes the foreground pillar decorating thing obscures obstacles which can be very frustrating so maybe remove that.
Overall a great entry that fits the theme: great job!

Developer

Thank you for the detailed feedback!

Developer

Hi LilNarwhal! Thank you so much for playing and for the detailed feedback! :D

In the interest of learning, could you go into more detail about the art not being coherent? It is a good observation - what specific parts of it seemed not to fit in or make sense?  As the artist for this game I have my own thoughts about the artwork, designs and animations for what could be improved were I to take more time to work on it, but I would like to hear your thoughts about the artwork in more detail so I can get another perspective on it. If you have time to!  :)

Submitted(+1)

Well Im not much of an artist myself so take this with a pinch of salt but some of the art feels "detached". All around it's the same art style but some of the art feels more like it belongs to sci-fo while some of it seems to belong to heroic-fantasy. For example, Id think of a visual redesign on the dogs. I cant really remember everything that was going on because I played it a few days ago but I believe that wasnt the only example. The tiles I think could have been redesigned too but again that's from my visual memory.

Developer

Gotcha, this makes sense! I felt similarly about the lion/dog statues especially. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain further. If we do end up revising some assets post-jam, I'll keep this feedback in mind! :)

Nice little lie you put out there!
Sound, Art and Dersign, everything was well done :)

The last level was a bit too much though.
