Let's Make a Community Megadungeon!

What is this Jam?

We are creating a megadungeon for the Cairn roleplaying game created by Yochai Gal. This is a community event where each participant creates a level in the dungeon. The levels will be compiled together, and will be free for all. Do not join this jam if you wish to charge any money.

The deadline is a placeholder for the time being. It will be changed once we have closed submissions.

Theme:

Inverted Tower.

The concept for this megadungeon is an underground tower, home to a Mage's Guild. Their experiments and research have lost control, and now the dungeon is crawling with strange phenomena, unique layouts, and a plethora of critters!

Criteria:

  • Your level should consist of 3-5 rooms (or more if you wish) containing monsters, traps, npcs, puzzles, or whatever unique things you can think of!
  • There will be a central, spiraled staircase leading all the way through the dungeon. You can have it blocked/unusable on your level, but remember to have another entrance in if that is the case. This staircase should be marked somewhere on your dungeon map.
  • The format for your contribution should be A5 size (5.83in. x 8.27in.) with a margin size of .3in. all around. Consistent format will aid in the merging of all levels at the end. Your document should be 300DPi.
  • Your submission should contain a .pdf file in English. (See Note below).
  • The mechanics of your level should adhere to the system of Cairn.
  • Claim a level on the Google Sheet prior to working on your submission to ensure you reserve your spot.
  • Feel free to collaborate with the other participants.
  • Use whatever font, size, and spacing you wish. Each level should have its own unique feel and allow the participant to have fun and be creative while making it.

Note: You can use whatever software you see fit, however Affinity is free to use and is great for formatting. If you use Affinity, please include the .af file for your submission as well. This will be a great help when compiling the dungeon together at the end of the jam.

Feel free to use any Public Domain images or images that you have the rights to use. This megadungeon will be free for all. User watabou on itch has some great generators that can be used for your layout. The Cairn Warden's Guide has procedures for generating dungeons.
