Really creative and fun game!

Great visuals, sound and mechanics. Seriously I don't have anything to say to improve except making more levels cause I wanted to play more :)

Developer

Thanks a lot. The feedback was very positive and we had fun making it, so we are planning to add more content to it! :)

Of the all the games I've played in this jam, this is the only one that I wanted to finish. I got stuck in a long hallway area that takes about 10 seconds just to walk through before the timer resets. The game looks and feels great. It's easy to control. I really like the rewind effect that happens. Do you log an array of breadcrumbs and then repath back? You don't have to tell me. Just thinking of how I would have done it.

The music is good. I didn't get a sense of any in-game menus or other abilities but this is really all you need. I do find the shooting sound effect from the cannons to be akin to pounding on a trashcan lid -- they sound like they clip/peak the audio. Maybe something a little softer, but that's my only real critique other than maybe adding a sprint feature for those long walks or even an item drop for speed, maybe boots? I could definitely see this going farther!

Developer (1 edit)

Glad you liked it :) Yeah, that is correct. The state of each rewindable object is saved with a timestamp. When the rewind happens, the appropriate state is set for the current time. That also means that it doesn't have to rewind back all the way to 0, it could instead stop somewhere in the middle and all the logic is able to continue from there.

On the first prototype for this, we actually had the rewind as a skill for the player. You were able to rewind by just a little bit as well. The ability was cool, but designing puzzles around it in a bullet hell scenario was tricky. Hitting the objects to activate the different time effects worked way better for us.

Very original idea, great use of the theme and the mechanic of rewinding is very well made, even the enemies and projectiles are rewinding. The art is very good and I really liked the gameplay, but one suggestion is to make the player shoot instead of swiping a sword, I mean on paper it will be so cool, like to shoot a bullet at the clock as the time depletes and you hit it with just 0.3 seconds left, that would make the game even better in my opinion but keep in mind is just a suggestion the game is already very great, good job guys!!!

Also 7 seconds left before the deadline, that is so close!!!

Developer

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it :) I would be down for adding shooting to the game, but only if we manage to pull off interesting situations in combination with the time manipulation abilities.
Haha, obviously we tried to stay with the theme even on the submission time :-P ... I wish it were like that, but for some reason it wouldn't let me submit the game for the jam at first, so that was very stressful :D

This game is just awesome! I really like all the visuals and how polished it is. The effects and programming also seem very on point. I agree with other comments that it might get stale after a while, but there is just some much to expand on this idea that I can only see it getting better. One thing, though, was that it was not immediately clear to me that I needed to kill all turrets in the room to unlock the doors - only after trying it for a while that I figured it out. Awesome work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I also think that it is a good base to expand upon.  A couple of other people also didn't realize immediately that they had to kill the turrets. That is something we need to improve on. It is one of those things that feel obvious when you develop it, but actually isn't. I am glad you still enjoyed it that much though :)

Great game with a nice concept.

Developer

Thanks :)

Theme, Visuals, and Audio are on point, this definitely needs some way of explaining to the player that the rewind clocks act as checkpoints, but one you have that figured out the gameplay is smooth and rewarding. If you were to expand on this I would like to see you use the existing components in new and unique ways, as I can see killing robots to open doors getting stale. All in all , great game!

Developer

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it :) Was the checkpoint system very confusing to you? We thought that while it is not explicitly explained, it should have been fairly obvious once you "die" once. Especially because it is a rewind setting you back. Is the problem that you would have liked to know beforehand that you wouldn't have to restart the whole game after a death?

Yeah definitely, if we expand on this, it would need new ways to use the existing mechanics. But I think it offers a good base to expand on!

Very original and very fun! One of my favourites period.

Developer

Glad you liked it so much :)

Really cool concept, great execution!

This is amazing, great implementation of the theme and a simple fun game, Great work!

Developer

Thanks a lot :)

Great game with very interesting concept!)

Developer

Thanks :)

Game feels polished, please after the jam add a little more its great.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! We will most likely add more to the game, because we liked how it turned out and it also seems that people like it :) However first we need a break, because the jam was quite exhausting :/ :D

Submitted(+1)

Really nice! It's kinda an action-time-management-bullet-hell-puzzle game :D
I enjoyed it a lot, especially the puzzles that  I only made by a split second. I had a bit of trouble with the player hitbox (meaning I sometimes got hit when I thought I wouldn't have), but having lifes made this a non-problem for me.
Well done! Stay funky,
Dez

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot :D Yeah, the player hitbox is definitely something we need to improve on moving forward!

Submitted(+1)

I made mine smaller like 5 times during development :D And it still might be too big haha

Good graphics, good audio and a really really creative concept. Very unique and a cool way to interpret a bullet hell. I had some trouble understanding what is going on but after I understood the mechanic I had a lot of fun and even a little bit disappointed when I beat it. Only thing that was frustrating were the hitbox. Often I walked against an object even though my "feet" should not collide or I could not walk on a bridge despite me being clearly lined up with it. I had a lot of fun playing, good game :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I feel like you being disappointed after you beat it is a good thing :) The hitboxes is definitely something we can improve on.

Submitted

Yes, it is. I had like to see this being continued.

Really great concept. Nice visuals and audio is pretty good, as well. Very polished game and I utterly enjoyed playing it. Great job!

Developer

Thanks for the positive feedback :)

Gameplay is simple but has certain depth. The difficulty gap between some of the first room and the last room is  quiet large, I guess a few more rooms to gradually increase the difficulty would be nice, but there is time limit for them jam so ... ยฏ\_(ใƒ„)_/ยฏ . Also I think secret room would fit the theme well. I really love the visuals and I think I can learn something from the game's art to use for my future project. Overall a super creative game!

Developer

Thanks, glad you liked it :) I agree, the last room is quite tough compared to the others, but as you said there was only so much time.

Submitted(+1)

Real original concept, i like how you used some different time abilities not directly in control of the player but by having to hit the clocks in the level themselves it sorta adds a puzzle element to the gameplay and just dialing backwards in the timeloop instead of death was a real cool idea.

The rest is some solid topdown action, the pixel art is real good, and i like the main character's design, also really enjoyed the main music theme and the variation on it at the end.

The only small issue i had were the bridges, where you can some times get a bit stuck while in a hurry, but that's really not that big of a deal.

Other than that i broke out of the timeloop and had a good time, good job to you guys :)

Developer

Thanks a lot :) Yeah, getting stuck on the bridges is annoying. That is something we had on our list to fix, but time was running out. We can fix it post jam!

Submitted(+1)

Wow that's a very well made game, I can't really imagine the work behind it all. I liked a lot the way you implemented the theme, the best use of the "10 seconds" for me. I just couldn't figure out how to pass the first room where the slowmo clock appears... :(
Still, you've done a great job! :P

Developer(+1)

Thanks! :) You have to kill the turrets in the room to open the door. We will make sure to explain stuff like that better in the future.

Submitted(+1)

OOOH I could kill the turrets
thanks man, now I got it

Developer

Thanks a lot for the feedback and glad you enjoyed it! Getting the difficulty right is definitely one of the hardest parts in LD. Maybe this tip helps you though: One can activate the clocks multiple times, so once the slowmo runs out, you can hit the clock again and get another slowmo time. I hope this helps and thanks again for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Really, Really good game, the mechanics are clear, the game feels unique. Just an absolutely massive amount of creativity went into this. Well done

Developer

Thanks a lot! Glad you enjoyed it!

Ridiculously-cool. An original and inventive take on both the theme AND genre, great fun to play; with excellently-communicated goals and overall very competent design.

Full rating in every category.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for your great feedback! It is really appreciated :)

PS: I did figure out how to beat your boss eventually. Consider the curse lifted ;)

YAAAASSSSSS, good to hear! <3

There's so much polish here and also such a fun concept to back it up! I think that having 10 seconds be a "meter" rather than a "timer" of sorts is satisfying. Overall I liked the level design, glad you added the checkpoints to the rewind clocks. I do wonder if the size of the levels increases or you get to more of them, if hitting them manually would get a little repetitive over time. Still, one of my favorites so far, great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much, glad you liked it! At the moment hitting the clocks is always the correct play, so making the player think about that a bit more could be a good way to expand on this idea. The comment below yours suggested adding a moving platform, where you have to use the clocks in the right moment. I think that could be a great starting point.
