Bullet hell incarnation of Vib-Ribbon, eh?
Played it with this song: https://youtu.be/VOXX13b92yA

Result:
Hits: 185
Games lost: 19
Times dashed: 239
Rank: F
Satisfaction: 100%

This was true bullet hell, and I loved every minute of it. Only one issue and a couple nitpicks:
- On more intense songs, the circle AoE attack can just hit the player with no chance to dodge. It also deals very high damage and can be devastating and heartbreaking when you're trying to wing it to the checkpoint on 1-2 hp. Maybe if the attack marker appeared slightly earlier on high BPM songs, e.g. if there were 2 stages to marker's animation before it deals a damaging attack, then it'd be fairer to dodge?
- The game responded really well to the music and really kept the action and bullets coming - though I wonder if some configurable options for the gameplay and visuals would work well? Like being able to increase/decrease camera shake, visual flashes, bullet density modifiers and attack types that can spawn...
- When reaching checkpoints, healing the player might be a good idea. Most of the time I reached the
checkpoints with only a few hp left, and just kamikaze'd to full health, since you're really at the mercy of the circle AoE RNG when your hp is low.
- How am I supposed to rate the game for audio???? Do I put 1 star because audio is non-existent, or 5 stars because it can literally be anything you want..?

Overall - A technological marvel for sure, not much else to say! While it doesn't fit the theme so well imo (health and screen boundaries are a videogame staple to be honest), it really doesn't matter. Perhaps with some more features and ways to customize the gameplay it would reach exceptional quality - you've already got a solid mechanical foundation, and it's already a ton of fun to play ^^ Congrats!

thank you for so detailed review!

The music in this game is really right up my alley, congratulations.

Joke aside, the generation seems to work pretty well, obviously I tried both ends of the spectrum, from reggae, soft folk songs and psychedelic rock to punk and power metal. And the game is fun to play, you got the controls and bullet types and speed very right as well, making it a delight to curiously test your different tunes.

An awesome project overall, well done.

It is amazing ! Good job!

It's mind-blowing  you made this in just 10 days. I wouldn't even know where to start. Excellent job!

While the gameplay was relatively simple, the technology here is simply jaw-dropping. On the fly syncing up bullet patterns to music worked so well, and the screen shake and minimalist visuals really made me feel like I was immersed in my music. Though, dodging bullets to Phoebe Bridgers' Motion Sickness was certainly not the chill experience I was expecting. Great work!

This was legit so stellar, I have no idea how you managed to spawn bullet patterns that echoed the music transitions so well. I could play this all day. Oustanding job!!

amazing idea. it makes me want to try different music just to see how the level goes. the visual is simple and on point. a wonderful small game. i like it.

Developer

thanks!

This is so fun. I used my own music I had made and it was fun seeing how difficult each would be.

Very cool idea and it works very good, but some standard tracks would be cool

Interesting concept, but I would not have forced the player to supply their own audio. I had to dig around for ages to find an audio file. That being said, the generation mechanics work really well. I would have just put in a few CC0 audio tracks so people could just right into the action!

Bad choice for me picking a 15 minute song I had in my music folder for my first playthrough lol (but the checkpoints were really helpful)

Regardless, it's a really cool concept with generating the beats to the song uploaded, kind of feels like the player can choose the difficulty and length of the level and whatnot.

The generating mechanic works really well and it felt very cool to dodge the large orange blobs that appeared on the bass sections. I do feel like I wish I had seen more of a link between the other appearing dangers (the projectiles) and the music too. But a nice jam entry overall!

thanks for sharing feedback!

Would be nice if it had some default music to make it easy to quickly start/test the game.
