I think the tutorial could just be a sign on the first level that says "Click to interact, WASD to move." Everything else is conveyed pretty clearly through gameplay.

The primary game loop is really solid and the graphics are very cohesive! I liked the slowly building complexity as the levels progress.

Clicking to interact is kind of awkward when mouse position doesn't mean anything. I think I would have rather it been spacebar or something.

I couldn't tell if the machines broke down randomly or if you choreographed each level. Either way it made for a pretty neat experience. Nice work!

Developer

Yeah, I wanted to have a more interactive tutorial, but the time was short :D Having the right tutorial in your game is always a tricky thing to achieve, especially for game jams. Just writing it down on one page is not good, because in the next you have forgotten half of it already :D

Yeah, I spend some time for tweaking the levels and making them progressively harder. The machines have some parameters i can tweak. One is the first time they break, this is fixed for every level. so the start is the same. After that i have a min and max time which generates a random time after with the machine breaks. Then I can also decide the percentage of the toys falling right and left and the probability of needing a screw.

Yeah, the I don't know why I chose the mouse as input, but there is not only the left button. The right button is for dashing ;) You could also play with a controller if you like. But there is always one person that prefers one control over the other. Can't satisfy everybody.

Awesome game but now I'M SWEATING AT MY DESK. Gonna go shake off the anxiety! Haha! Love the animation and sounds, and the game certainly feels nice with the controller! Great work!

Developer(+1)

Wow, thank you very much for your feedback. If you are sweating then this is a sign that we did a good job with the game design :D  I hope you managed to save Christmas or were the last levels two hectic? :D

Submitted

lol, I had to step away, but I'll be back! I'm assuming I'll have to play through the other levels again to unlock the last ones, right?

Developer(+1)

No, level progress is saved of course ;) At least it should be if you play on the same PC again ;)

Nice xmas game!  I like how it gets frantic as toys spill all over the place.  Good job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks. It was the plan that it gets really crazy when you don't work fast enough :D
Did you manage to complete all levels?

It was quite funny to work on a Christmas game when it is that far away :D

Very nice and well polished little game. As others have said the pickup mechanic could be a little improved but still works well. I didn't realize I could pick up the toys and put them back on the line until much later in the game which made it a lot easier :) !

Great entry and the life of an elf is a tough one.

Developer

Thank you :D I'm glad you enjoyed the game ^^ I would not like to work on that factory either o.o that's for sure xD Were you able to finish the game? :)

Submitted(+1)

This was a very cute game and I love the puzzle mechanics, I spent some more time trying to beat them all. Only con is that the pickup circle can be difficult to use since it only picks up in front of the elf. But this is a very good entry

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you very much. Really like it that you enjoyed our small game. So, did you beat them all and saved Christmas? ;)

Yeah, I wanted to spend some more time on the pickup, but believe me, it was way worth at some point :D But it, for sure, can be improved.

Would categorize our game as a puzzle game? Right now I have it in the action category, because for a puzzle game it is a little two hectic to my opinion :D

Really cool, solid game! Like the idea. everything  is so polished! Nice.

Developer

Thank you very much. Really appreciate every positive comment, because a lot of work was put into the game by us over the weekend and this means it was worth it :D I hope the game was not to hard, because the last levels are quite chaotic. Will checkout your game later ;)

Boy I'm glad I'm not an elf full time hehe.  Really well made game!! Great fun and polished~  The sprite are is fantastic, and I like the little dash move too (I gotta learn how to do that!)  Great game!

Developer

And I'm glad that you had fun playing the game :D I'm specially flattered since I did all the art for the game ^^ (and those conveyor belts weren't easy to animate ^^). Were you able to finish the game? :) Did you have any trouble playing?

Submitted(+1)

Oof that was stressfull, but in an exciting way! very nice the controlls were sometimes a bit clunky with picking things up and dropping them, but in general an amazing job. I really liked it! Having to pick between repairing and putting things back on the line very cool. and needing a bolt to repair it was a nice extra that gave it a bit more depth!

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you like it :D We've put a lot of effort on that game (and we also learned a lot of new things ^^). Thank you for trying out our game :) And yes, that was our intention xD to make it stressful in a fun way :) Were you able to finish it?

Submitted

Yes I was a great game! I liked it a lot!

Developer(+1)

Awesome :D

Once again, thank you for playing it :)

I was having a lot of trouble with this game until I pick up a controller. Once it became just a little more responsive the whole thing just clicked :)

Developer

Yeah, you need some time to get into the controls and I have to admit that picking put toys is not perfect. But a controller helps a lot because you get the additional accuray with the analog stick.

Did you manage to finish all levels?

Submitted(+2)

OverCooked but Christmas I like it.

Developer

You got it correct. Did you manage to save Christmas?

Submitted(+1)

This game was really fun! I only managed to get to December 22nd before it got too hard for me.

The difficulty rises very nicely with each level, and the addition of a second conveyor belt in that level was brilliant. However, I was having a few issues with the mechanics of picking items up.

Developer

So you didn't save Christmas. How dare you :D
I know that the picking up is not perfect. Therefore I put the white transparent circle in, but I can for sure improve it. It's also the case that if a machine is nearby the machine has priority for interactions, making the picking up of toys next to machines a pain in the ass :D

If you have a controller to play, this helps a lot ;)

I think the game was inspired by "Overcooked", and i love the way it turned :)

Developer

You guessed correctly. I'm glad you love it :D Did you manage to finish all levels?

Yeah, sure :) That was fun and in a good stressful way lol :D

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed it :D

Fun game. Good level of polish. Good job!

Developer

Thank you :D I'm glad you had fun playing it. Were you able to complete all the levels?

Submitted

Not quite. I got a handful of levels in, but I wasn't very good after a while. Haha

Developer(+1)

Yeah, i tried to increase the difficulty with each level and it seems that I did a good job. You have some randomness in each level, but I played them several times during balancing and it is possible to complete them without using the dash feature onces. Damn, that would have been a good achievement for the player :D
