How does your game fit the theme?
The game's a minigame collection where you play as an animal. If you lose a minigame, then you die or "meet your end". But, you can then reincarnate as a completely different animal with completely different minigames. So your end is a new beginning, and the new beginning is a new set of minigames.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
I made all the code (albeit with another person helping me playtest) and assets, with two exceptions.

1: A hooting owl noise. That sound was uncredited in the actual game, but you can find it here.

2: The font. That beauty was made by Somepx and is called Futile Pro!

That was an interesting Idea.

Simple, yet very fun experience. Would love to see more animals / creatures added to this in the future!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you! 🧡

I've probably said this in other comments but I've got a few ideas for new creatures and games and I'd love to put those in a far more expanded mobile version of SiL... 👀 (I don't think it'd work on Steam, it's far too simple for that market)

funny gameplay experience. The game design was challenging, but not too difficult, and kept me entertained. The graphics were minimalist, but they fit well with the overall feel of the game. The sounds were engaging and added to the overall atmosphere of the game. Highly recommended.

Thanks for your glowing words! 🧡

Love the jackpot concept to choose what animal u will born as

But the plates in cat minigame is hard to push off the table

your game can be polish by adding more animals and random encounter during jackpot to add extra humor to the game which this game good at

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! 🧡

1) The knocking minigame was definitely a buggy one and I credit that to its nature as a physics-based game. I did try to minimize bugs as much as possible but some just slip through the cracks.

2) I definitely wanna add more animals to the game, like rabbits, ducks, etc. I'm not too sure what you mean by "random encounter" but I was thinking of adding random events like the life slots being needlessly slow, catching on fire, or landing on something that isn't an animal like "lose a turn" or "7/7/7" just to spice the humour up a bit. (I'd definitely have a toggle for this in the settings)

This game was hilarious. Music worked perfectly for it. Great job!

Some feedback:

1) One of the rules of pixel art is that all pixels should be the same size. For example, in your first screenshot the shelf is lower resolution than a cat and plates -- it creates inconsistency and is better avoided.

2) Loved the inclusion of seizure warning.

3) The cat minigames could have better controls -- sometimes plates get stuck under the cat and I didn't really figure how the laser pointer works? Seems like it is unresponsive to mouse clicks in the first second or two.

4) Consider adding a punishment for missing objectives like kibble. The player can just use autoclicker to pass levels rn.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the comment! I always appreciate constructive criticism. 🧡

1) I wasn't expecting someone to point that out of all things, but I definitely agree. It's probably because whenever I feel like something isn't the right size, I just resize it in Unity rather than redrawing the sprite. But consistent pixel art looks better and I'll definitely take this on board.

2) Thanks! It was suggested by Tazaidon (the person who helped me playtest) and I thought it was a good idea. I also slightly altered one of the scenes to be less bright.

3) Admittedly, the laser pointer has a really tight hitbox. I did try to balance it between being generous and being challenging, though I might've tipped the scale on the wrong end. As for what you said about the knock minigame, that's probably just a caveat with the fact that it's a physics-based minigame. I did attempt to prevent this issue by making the plates lighter and actually having the cat knock them with force but it seems my efforts weren't quite enough.

4) One of the Bird minigames DOES function as an AutoClicker deterrent (the flappy bird one) because I put a plane above the player so they couldn't just autoclick their way out of it. As for the other minigames, well, I already have a punishment for timing out and I don't know how else this new punishment would work. For the Kibble one there COULD be a delay for each mouse click, but unless I added a recharge meter or something like that, it'd just seem unresponsive to people who can move their mouse really quickly. Plus, a part of me doesn't really see this as an issue because if you're using an AutoClicker to make things easier, you know that you're not playing the game the way the developer intended.

This was really fun!  I loved the dog getting thrown away lol.   More mini game would have been an improvement, but this was still a ton of fun!

Submitted(+1)

this was great! haha when they threw the cat in the trash

The gameplay was naturally fun and intuitive. For almost every mini-game I was able to pick up on the goal immediately. The graphics and audio went very well together and the dynamic music made me feel stressed in a good way haha like it allowed the player to feel like they have to move faster. Great job!

The only criticism I have is that I wish there were more mini-games for each animal but it makes sense given the time constraints that that would be hard.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so so much for your comment! 🧡

I would've loved to have more minigames, but my ideas weren't really that great and I decided to take a quality > quantity approach. Though I have thought about expanding SiL with more minigames and modes so it can be a full mobile game or something along those lines... 👀

Submitted(+1)

ya it was actually very addictive to play, reminds me a lot of "dumb ways to die" but 10x cuter lol

Submitted(+1)

That was very fun! Warioware with a reincarnation theme haha.

Developer

Glad you had fun! 🧡

nice concept. the audio is quite good and the gameplay reminds me of wario ware, really cool ;)

Developer

Thank you! 🧡

Submitted(+1)

Really cool concept, there was not a single minigame that I did not like.

Developer

Thanks for the kind words! 🧡

That was great only thing I have to add is that I wish there were more micro   games

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the comment! 🧡

Honestly, I also wish I could've added more microgames, but there's only so much time in a week.

Fun fact: I was originally planning on having 9 minigames (3 for each animal) but then I realized the extra ideas I had for games didn't work all that great so I trimmed it down to 6 (2 for each animal).

Submitted(+1)

I died instantly as the bird :P I'm a bad bird, but a great dog.
I really liked your ideas and humor as well as the sounds.
I could tell from the title screen I was going to like the graphics.

Developer

Thanks so much for the comment! 🧡

RIP the bird though :(

Submitted(+1)

Your game is really fun! I enjoyed the variety of gameplay and how they required me to switch between different kinds of focus. My only comment is that I found the bird games to be much easier than the cat or dog's.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for the comment! 🧡

Balancing the bird minigames was a bit of a struggle I had during development. I pin this partially on the fact that they were a late addition since I wanted to have 3 animals rather than just 2.

The flight minigame originally had far stronger gravity but I realized that meant you could barely read the instructions, so I lightened it. But maybe I could've made it a bit heavier.

The hunting minigame originally had only one hunter that followed the player's position, but I added 2 others to make it a bit more challenging; one shooting at a random position and one shooting at the exact opposite of the player's position. Even then, it was definitely still a little too easy.

If I decide to commit and expand on SiL, I'll probably rework both minigames. Thanks again for the feedback!

This is one of my favourite games so far! I really liked the idea for the games, and the life slots. Very nice, good job :). Check out my game too!

Developer

Thanks for the comment! 🧡

I'll see if I can get around to trying your game. The cover image looks promising. 👀

Submitted(+1)

Really reminds me of warioware games in a good way! The minigames are fun and easy to understand. My feedback is that I think it would be nice to have the reincarnations part of the same "run" instead of only after you die. Otherwise good job!

Developer

Thanks for the comment! 🧡

Yeah, WarioWare was definitely a light inspiration for the microgame format.

As for your feedback, do you mean like every 10 or so minigames you automatically reincarnate? If so, that could be an interesting new mode. 👀

Submitted

yea something that! Or maybe you have 3 lives in each run

Submitted(+1)

good Dumb Ways to Die style game, brings a lot of fun
Developer

Glad the game was fun! 🧡

And yeah, Dumb Ways was absolutely an inspiration for the game.
