Really nice concept, I liked the gameplay. But it's sometimes gets a bit hard.

How does your game fit the theme?
You are in a Timeloop, every time you die and end the game you are reset to the beginning but this time you remember what portal to go through. Play this fun memory skill-based game and see if you can go fast enough to reach warp speed.
Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
I made all the code from scratch and did take some assets.

This game is very fun!! My only wish is that it had checkpoints. I understand this defeats the memory elements, but I just found the game too hard without them and it ended up becoming a bit frustrating. Maybe they could be set for just an easy mode? I really love the idea and the gameplay and how it all ties in with the art and music! I just wish I could have experienced more of the game :)
Thank you for the feedback, mainly the constructive feedback, as I want more of it. Yes, the best start in the first part is not to move funny you found that out by the way, by lots don't. But back to the point, I agree the game is frustrating, annoying, and almost impossible to beat p.s the end screen has no effort in it due to no one beating it anyway. By the way, once you reach a certain point (around 60 seconds in) much faster-paced music plays, and through the game around 5 to 6 songs play. Speed-up abilities are also a thing later in the game as well so funny you brought that up. Im not going to be working on the game anymore other than maybe giving some people different versions if they actually wanna try beating it but i think the feedback about you saying it feels like no matter what you are doing it is wrong really will help me later on making future games as that opened my eyes that the player needs some sort of reward. Of course, the Score Counter... could be counted as a reward but sometimes that does not feel like enough for the player. Thankyou very much hope to see you in future game jams.
A cool memory-based beat-the-clock space racer.
Pros: cool concept, creative use of the theme, great level design, fun music, nice visuals
Cons: (obligatory I'm a professional audio engineer with audio in my name so yeah maybe I'm a bit biased about audio) I feel like there could have been a few more sound effects, having one for the tendrils that fades in as they get closer and one for the thrusters on the ship that changes pitch the faster you go would have added a TON to your game (I know that's a big ask for a week but I highly highly highly suggest learning how to quickly do basic adaptive audio for future projects), I said in my pros that it's a creative use of the theme and I stand by that, however, it feels like you only nailed the narrative justification for the theme. From a gameplay standpoint "end is a new beginning" basically equates to "when you die you can try again" which is most games. I think that it would be really cool if instead of a game-over screen it just seamlessly transitioned back to the beginning to really sell the idea of the time loop. Maybe you already thought of that and couldn't get to it in time which is understandable but it definitely would have sold your concept.
Overall this was a really fun and somewhat addicting game that I spent a long time genuinely trying to beat. I think I made it to the 6th portal before giving up. Great game and it would be fun to see you expand on this concept after the jam.
Thank you. I actually easily could make it so that it immediately reset you back to the beginning instead of going to a death screen to "sell the idea" and it was like that at first. It felt to me like the game started back up again too fast, it would be hard to make the score work, and with the high score work, I would have to add a pause mechanic to get back to the home screen. and these are all excuses because I really just wanted to make a cool death screen. I might expand on the future but probably not ngl. love that you could only make it to the 6th portal, looks like i made my game a bit to hard... oops :[]
Cool use of the theme, and I feel like this concept could be really good if polished!
That being said, I didn’t really like the fact that if I’m unlucky (which I was lol) I have to die over and over again and start from the beginning to progress. I guess I just wasn’t patient enough. Not only the portals but also some obstacles were almost unavoidable if you didn’t know they were coming.
I feel if the game was a little more forgiving, I would have enjoyed it a lot more :(
However that mechanic is intentional, and it might just be me being bad at the game :P
Good entry!
You have some solid game design here. There is a good balance between going fast and not going too fast. The music fit really well to give it a nice vibe. Great work! This was one of those games that I thought - "It's a top down side scrolling spaceship game.. how hard could it be??" But then I died immediately from the tentacles, so I went back and read the tutorial and was excited to try to beat the tentacles the next time through. Great work on engagement!
This is a fun runner game !
I like the old retro art, and the simple controls. However I find it frustrating to restart all over again when not taking the right portal.
Nice job overall !
I'm really into side-scrolling/up-scrolling shooters so glad to see one in the jam. I like the music and the concept of trying to outrun the weed things. Might be good to get a smoother feel to the horizontal movements and get some warning on which blue diamond thing to fly through.
Congratulations on finishing the Jam! Unfortunately the main aspect of this game - the memorizing of paths and the 2/3s chance of having your progress reset each time you reach a new portal - is more frustrating than fun, to me. It would have been nice to have some sort of indicator to show the right way. Still, a nice effort that you should be proud of!
Really fun! Sometimes a bit annoying to start all over again, but overall nice game
Nice submission! The art style and concept are great. I think it could use some polish for the tentacles and making it clearer which portal to choose, but still a fun game
This reminds me of the Mario Party 3 minigame: End of the Line in a way. I love the tendrils dancing along with the music, gives a mix of chill and despair vibes. I couldn't get to the end but my highscore was around 3500+.
Nice concept, I like how I would constantly forget which "door" was the correct one because I was distracted by avoiding obstacles, and then crash like a dummy haha.
Good job!
Managing speed while also avoiding obstacles is a great idea and makes the game more fun than other memory games
