How does you game fit the theme?
There are enemies, but also buddies if you can get close to them making you no longer alone in this flat gray plane.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
No, some codes were taken from the unity forum and other similar places and third party assets are used.

Nice game! The choice of forming a long shape that allows you to catch enemies easily even when slow, or trying to form something a little more round-ish to protect you from all sides adds quite a bit of strategy. There may even be more strategies I haven't even thought of! Great job!

Semi-on-the-fly remarks:
  1. Controls are QWERTY-only instead of layout-independent (I have an AZERTY keyboard), BUT arrow keys are enabled.
  2. I think you could sprinkle some details on the ground, in order to help the player better see how he is moving.
  3. Simple concept, easy controls, nice recipe! :)
  4. The shape I am forming resembles a hand, somewhat, with one side being longer, and useful as a long ‘catcher’, although this means my blue cube is less protected from the other side. So, there is some strategy involved already!
  5. Is the enemy spawning rhythm always the same? Oh, no, it does increase dramatically!! :o
  6. Lost at 212.7. Soon before, I noticed my buddies seemed to go a bit further than me; I think the lag caused by the presence of more entities may cause this spatial decoherence.
  7. Possible bug: One more test to check the sounds; weird: having lost, I see there is an enemy cube that just goes straight, alone, and the FPS becomes quite low, before he goes away and the FPS comes back to normal!

Takeaway: I tend to favour concepts and mechanics over everything else, and you served a fitting concept right there! :) (My game is also super concept-focused, but this was a small last-minute entry. XD) I think you could add more variety and long-term interest by adding some mechanics, such as random bonuses when you convert some enemy into a buddy, for example.

I do not mind the plain geometric graphics for the main entities! You can either consider this a prototype and change them, or keep them as they are. :) As I said, giving more detail to the ground would add functionality, on the other hand. And a sound (and visual effect? Not sure) for converting an enemy into a buddy would add to the feeling and comfort of the game. :)

Clever prototypical entry; I like these!

Thank you! and wow, I'll go over your thoughtful remarks and takeaway if I ever make something out of this.

I survived for over 300 seconds on my first try! I love this game, it's great fun and wonderfully simple. Enjoyed just being a fidget spinner at one point and just rotating my mouse like a madman whilst everything around me just dropped. Great job on this game!

Very simple game with simple graphics usually lead to fun experiences. This one really does.

I think it would have been even better if you had more crazy graphic effects / shader stuff. Jam people dig that.

Developer

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind for my next game jam game.

Cool little arcade style game

Pros: nice music, cool concept, innovative use of the theme, I like the way you used vfx to spice up bland assets

Cons: overall audio mix was pretty bad so you couldn't hear the music over the sfx for most of the game, it would have been nice to have any kind of tutorial or instructions in game instead of on the game page, the difficulty scaling was pretty slow and even at it's hardest I was able to survive several minutes just by spinning in circles and moving back and forth.

Overall really fun concept and I like the way you interprated the theme, I would love to see what you could do with this given more time.

nice idea, but gets boring quickly

Cool game, I enjoyed the game play and the idea was cool. Something to improve on is adding and object or making it more clear, as I was playing I didnt feel like there was anything to do after I had gotten so well. A great game overall, what a good submission. If you would be so kind to rate my game, but its entirely up to you :)

I thought that the idea for the game was really good, but I didn't really see an end in sight, which maybe was the point, but I felt like once I started playing it there was no way it could end. I really like the simplicity of the design of the game though, and it was a fun play!
