The mechanics and physics are really well done!

Very good mechanics. Nice game!

Wholesome hairy dude friends. T.T I feel like all the characters really have personalities and it makes me feel like I want to be their friends too. The character movements remind me of Rainworld's spiders so I think I was subconsciously spooked at first but I grew really fond of moving it around. Moving around was fun, talking to friends was fun. I think this is one of the games during this game jam that I'd personally consider buying if it had a more fleshed out and full story.

That's the best sort of praise I could imagine and exceeds any expectations I may have had.

I actually watched the Rainworld GDC talk right before the jam and was really inspired by it to use procedural animation. Some of the techniques discussed definitely made their way through into this project. Glad to see it shone through and well done for picking that up!

Thank you so much for playing!

I really liked the movement of the creatures! Sort of funny spaghetti monsters. Very well done on the tentacles attaching to things for this jam.

I thought the music was too quiet, had to almost crank my volume to the max here. But I enjoyed the song in the dimension tear map, nice background by the way. And the sound effect for their speeches.

The font during the dialogues could be a bit larger or in bold, but it was readable.

One thing I noticed was that when moving, the creatures "hair" felt like having motion judder. I had that with Unity when moving a body on the Update loop while its physics updated on the FixedUpdate loop, though maybe that might not be the cause.

Overall congratulations on the procedural animation!

Thanks for the feedback!

Absolutely right about the volume issue. Did all of the game-making with headphones in and adjusted the max volumes with my set-up and testing comfort in mind. Should 100% have gone back and tweaked it at the end, will have to remember this for future projects!

Also you're probably also spot on with the hair issues due to it not being in fixed update. To be honest I had some issues with the (head) hair as it turned out to be the most costly in terms of performance. Was even worried that the final scene would suffer as a result but maybe without cause.

Thanks again for playing and the constructive feedback is greatly appreciated!

Hey, great game! Really like the movement mechanic :)

Graphics are good, it fits the theme and I love the movement. Looks like there is a story to the game, but I don't have time to play through it all because I'm trying to play as many games as I can. Overall, great job.

Awesome work! I love the moving mechanic!

Developer

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed

I'm not sure how you do it, is it physics or something else, but I really love the smooth controls, It also a plus that you can use your mouse too, which I prefer using over my keyboard. You have a cool looking game environment too. Good stuff, DatuxGames!

Developer(+1)

Glad to hear you had a good time with it!

The legs essentially fire a bunch of raycasts from the player's hips in the direction of desired movement to find a suitable foothold within range. Once the foot is gripping a suitable obstacle it can then pull the player towards it to assist movement and stop the player from drifting off. There's a bit more to it but not much!

Thanks again for playing!

Interesting character design, awesome walking mechanic! Nice backgrounds and music ambiance too

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Really glad you enjoyed the music. A lot of love went into their creation :)

I love the moving mechanic, its so unique! Only thing I would change in this great game is to make things more obivios eg. for the first part of the level I though I controlled the legs and then later on in the forest part I kept getting lost. But otherwise keep up the great work!

Developer

Thanks! Appreciate the feedback.

You're absolutely correct I should have given a bit more guidance to the player as to where the next objective is. It was a feedback that I also received from testers before release but I neglected to implement a fix. Lesson learnt (hopefully)!

Cool game anyway

Good game. It's amazing how intuitive it is with WASD, even though the physics seem complex.

Developer

Glad you appreciated the movement controls! I must admit the procedural movement and animation is not the most simple thing I've ever built! Thanks!

I love the movement! The plot is also interesting, great ending.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Much appreciated! Impressed you played the whole way through. Cheers!

I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing but the movement is really cool!

Spoilers:

Man, I could play around with this movement controller for days. It’s so satisfying, especially in the creepy forest maze with all the tight corners. Really great game and worldbuilding. I liked the little poetic callback and the end where the arrangement of the tribe were in the shape of the five petal flower (or maybe I’m just imagining things lol.)

Thanks for sharing. My game is linked below if you’d like to give it a play.
