How does you game fit the theme?
The player character, Aisha, is a person who has a ghostly companion that follows them throughout their adventure through an Insane Asylum. Is the ghost real or just a figment of Aisha's imagination?

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
All Code and art assets and sound effects were created by my team and I.

That was an innovative gameplay. Good work.

Developer

Thanks for playing. We're glad you enjoyed our game.

Very cool idea. The art was nice. I was a little confused by the shift symbol. I thought the button was the up arrow and had to click around to see what it was.

pretty nice mechanic, the controls are pretty nice too. I think it have a lot of potential. my only nitpicks are that if you put the string too close to the bottom of the screen you can die, the level needs a little more variation and to use more the string mechanic, and I would prefer if I could enable and disable the ghost with a mouse button.

Love a puzzle game with a bit of creativity to the solution. Loved the pacing & the mood. Great Work!

Developer

Thanks for playing!! We're glad you enjoyed  it :))

Really cool game! The movement feels right and the ghost mechanic is really well done. I figured out I could kind of "wall jump" using the jump button repeatedly to climb walls. Maybe that could be another movement mechanic with the ghost lines. I can see a lot of level design potencial with this!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback!!! Some sort of wall jump could be cool to have but as you describe it we didn't intend for it to be used that way at the moment XD

It was really fun to work on so it would be fun to continue and maybe update this in the future.

Submitted(+1)

Interesting use of the ghost. Found out I can bypass a few areas without its help by just pressing jump to continuously go up.

Developer

Yeaaa the wall jump is definitely something we didn't intend for. Shouldn't be too hard to fix though. Thanks for playing!!!

I really liked the trampoline mechanic - felt really nice and responsive and chaining a few good trampoline jumps felt awesome! There were a few times where I wasn't sure if I could move vertically downwards through the level without dying, but thankfully each reset made it low stress so I could progress and finish. Good stuff guys!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing we're glad you enjoyed the game!! Having more of an indicator for what drops aren't safe or are safe would be a good idea so when this is updated when we have some spare time it'll definitely be a high priority

Submitted(+1)

I appreciate that you made your core mechanic not super hard to handle.
As someone who isn't that good at platformers I was able to complete it without problems and enjoy it start to finish while comfortably interacting with the many required uses of your main mechanic.

When I encountered similar mechanics in jam games they are often quite janky but you managed to make it actually pleasant to use the drawn lines and their springboard effect.

I would have loved to see the asylum aspect being more present.
Some phrases written on the walls or so would have made the story way more clear. Right now it's only really portrayed via the description of your project / submission page. Also it would have given the world I traverse as a player more meaning.

Developer

Thanks for playing!! I'm glad you enjoyed the trampoline mechanic as I was the programmer who created it. Definitely would be nice to get some more references and hints about the asylum if we updated this in the future.

We're glad you enjoyed playing our game!

The game music is very good, the main menu visuals are just amazing and the level design is good too. The overall game is very polished and nice. Rated it! If possible do rate and play my game :)

Took me an embarassingly long time to figure out that the button prompt to activate ghost is supposed to be Shift... I did not recognize that symbol XP

In general I had fun I think. The story lol damn that's dark. The concept is very creative and has much potential to become a puzzle platformer if you add more mechanics to interact with it.

The sound ambient fits the atmosphere of the game so well although it is just a simple ambient music. The SFX also feels good.

Some criticisms:

  • Weeeelll looks like it was just me but as mentioned previously it took me an embarassingly long time to realize that symbol is shift. What do you think of a more straightforward design of rectangle with the word "SHIFT" at the center?
  • The level design feels... random imo. Except for the first three screen the level looks without purpose other than as a filler between the start and the ending. Perhaps the sporadic nature of the terrain is purposeful to show that it is just hallucination? Still though... A less random, more purposeful level design, although unfortunately I cannot elaborate in detail how that might look like, may be something you want to put into consideration. Perhaps the level should highlight how the mechanics you created can be used in interesting ways; or when it comes to routes and branches you may want to be more purposeful as to what kind of experience you want to give the player. Must admit this is hard stuffs so sorry if I cannot really elaborate clearly.
  • More regarding level design... some screen transitions put me onto a cliff. Well it's not that huge a deal since when I die I restart very close but still... some screen transitions put me onto a cliff that immediately drops me down.
  • The tiles themselves are good... but just seeing one type of tile throughout such a long journey without anything to break the monotony feels... well somewhat monotonous. A little decoration here and there wouldn't hurt :3
  • Just a confirmation... wall jumping is not within your intention right? You see... when I did not realize that I could activate my ghost using shift, I still tried to advance; but then I found out I could "double jump"... and then "triple jump"... and then I realized that I was simply wall jumping. I do not know what may have caused that bug but you may want to look into it. Using the wall jumping I could progress up until the screen before the ending.
Developer

Hey, thanks for playing and thanks for all the feedback!!!

I was one of the programmers and we did notice the wall jumping bug and we're already working on fixing that for a little polish build when the rating period is over. We just didn't manage to get that done in time for submission.

I'll ask the artists to make an alternate version of the shift button too we can put in to make it a bit more clear what button you're supposed to press.

Again, thanks for playing and thanks for all the feedback!!

This game was made in Unity right? I think checking whether or not the player is on the ground can be done using raycasting in Unity...

Tho... I changed engine from Unity to Godot for a  reason lol... I am sure Unity is more powerful but I found out making Platformer in Godot is far easier and faster and so Godot is more suited for Game Jam purposes...

Developer

Yea it's unity. We're mainly using it as it's what we know so it's easier for us to get something out quickly. I haven't used Godot before but I'm not sure if my teammates have.

That was a good ending , I laughed at all the "oofs" everytime my character died lol. Creating the lines was such a great addition to the game, loved it!

Developer(+1)

We're glad you enjoyed the game. The "oofs" were a pretty last-minute addition too so we're glad you enjoyed them too XD

You have like the most unique concept I have seen yet!

Loved it! And I look forward to more games y'all are ready to make :)

Very cool game. Was I supposed to be able to wall jump?

Developer

We didn't intend for it but towards the end, we did notice it but we just didn't have time to fix that bug as we had other things we wanted to polish as we felt it didn't take away too much from the experience.

Developer

Thanks for playing we're glad you enjoyed it!!

Really good work guys! I love the art style and the gameplay mechanics. Great use of music to set the mood and a cool little story too! It is really impressive how polished this game is. I know you are all super busy right now so well done for finding the time and smashing it out of the park! Can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Developer

Thanks Joe, we're glad you enjoyed it.

This is best game yet that I played in this game. Love how it needs the player to plan the jump and also the platform. Adding with the fitting ominous soundtrack, it is a true masterpiece. Keep it up!

We're glad you enjoyed the game!!!

Thanks for playing.

I tried the game a few times but wasn't able to get the ghost and line-drawing mechanic to work.  I watched the youtube video and saw how it should function, but pressing the up arrow and/or right- or left-clicking didn't produce any effects.

Nice job implementing the other mechanics for wall-jumping, etc. and animations.

Developer

Hi, for the ghost trampoline mechanic to get it working you click and drag with the mouse and then release to spawn the line.

We definitely need to make it more clear in the tutorial in any future update so thank you for bringing this up.
