In what way does your game fit the theme?
There's chaos within the fort. 4 bosses of chaotic evil need to be neutralized.

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes indeed I made everything myself, except for the music which is from opengameart.

At first moment I was thrilled, but then I found out how big the map is and how much time takes to get to the "yellow point" which is most probably just a food. This game lacks huge balancing and polishing. The map is huge and there is absolute no reward for going through whole map (for yellow dots).
But still ... it's a good game, good idea. Try to polish it, balance it, give it better "reward system" and it will be glorious :)

the yellow points are most often weapon and armor upgrades that are required to kill the bosses :)

Haha. Thank you for playing my game.

You definitely can't just tank every enemy, you got lucky there. xD

The combat could use some more interaction and tactics, but for the sake of the jam I went for a more automated style, where armor and weapons and attack speeds matter.

The yellow dots on map were food/treasure/armor/weapon and red dots are bosses which require you to be atleast level 70 to survive against.

There was also 4-player local multiplay which is much more fun than solo. :)

But yes I think I got everything done for the jam's goals, and I can continue on the project in future to make it better.

Many games like Zelda and Binding of Isaac have strange view angles on the characters even though the environment is viewed directly from above. But it will make the workload easier to also view the characters from just above... Less animation frames. xD It's true.

Thank you for the feedback!

I like your game :) I fell into the holes a couple of times at first :D Then I eventually figured out that you can go back and forth between rooms and grind the enemies next to your starting food to level up. I later realized that the map shows you treasures and the bosses xD

Are the enemies and the layout completely random or is there also some procedural generation? It would be awesome if you added randomized dungeons with keys and puzzles!

The art is fantastic and the game is fun to play. I had a little trouble figuring out how to attack without getting hit myself, but otherwise, great game!

Great visual and music! The introduction for the game is kinda lacking so I have to figure out on my own which brings my playing experience down for a bit but after I learn how to play  the game is very entertaining and give me super rogue-like 8bit game! awesome!

Also I would love to have your feedback and rating for my game, Chaos Variants!

Great job, love the aesthetic and the soundtrack especially!

Thank you! I like making retro-style games, and this one has only about 10-12 colors in it!

(Well, not counting the randomly color-changing room walls, which may have more)

I find it's actually quite hard to make something look simplistic and technically limited as it was back in the day.

It's easier to draw full resolution images!

Also it's a challenge to find or create a fitting soundtrack that doesn't feel too modern.

Thank you for playing and for the wonderful feedback! Have a nice day! :)

This game was actually amazing. I didn't want to stop playing! The art is really nice. I think upping the move speed would make this game even better.

I kept the player movement slow as to bring in some Souls-like feel.

But if I develop this game further, I might add more movement speed options, like with some buff effects, mounts, flying, or speed boots.

Thank you for the kind words, the constructive feedback, and for playing my game!

Have a wonderful day! :)

Plot twist: There's actually only one room in the game. :D

But yes, I thought of more variation, but I didn't want to break the game on the last day as I thought of it.

I wanted to keep the controls simple so that's why I didn't add a separate attack button, but for a further developed game I'll definitely have it as an option in addition to auto-battle.

I added the core game loop on the last day so I had to finish it quick. :D

The playable area on the map used to be bigger, but after playtesting I already shrunk it down a little. There could still be some fine-tuning, yes.

Thank you for playing my game and for the constructive feedback!

This is such an amazing game! The artstyle is superb. The game is that polished that it made me want more. I would really want to see this game be developed as a full-pledged game after the jam! :D
