In what way does your game fit the theme?
I made up an acronym for CHAOS:

Can Hippos Achieve Outer Space??

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
everything on my own except for the music track (credits in page description)

I had fun playing it! The only thing I could criticize is the font I had hard time to read sometimes.

Nice game otherwise :)

Developer

Thanks for playing! I agree, the text needs some work on those researches. :)

Fun game! I really liked the vibe.

Developer

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it :)

The unlock tree led to very addictive gameplay! Especially the ability to capture increasing numbers of enemies and projectiles, really interesting. Overall the style was great, it definitely fit the music

Thanks for playing and for the feedback! Glad you enjoyed the resource mechanic. I was excited to try that out.

I rated this game higher than any other game yet.

Hippos really can achieve outer space :,)

Developer

Thanks for playing! I hope you enjoyed it :)

This game is insanely good at so many levels, your core game loop is neat and its keeps you engaged with the upgrades section. Being able to save my session was a really nice plus as well. My only feedback to the game was that the color palette of the game was a bit odd and it took me a while to understand some visual cues like money & items due their constrants with the rest of the world but that just me being nitpick :) nice entry to the gamejam Congrats

Please come around and rate my game :)

Developer

Thanks for the kind words! And I appreciate any and all nitpicks. I'd rather you find something minor to suggest improvements than tell me nothing. That way I can work to improve and learn :)

If you've got the time, could you give me some more detail about what you mean in your comment? Are there specific elements on the game whose color felt mismatched to you? And could you give me an example of the visual cues that you missed or would have liked to see to help you understand better?

I've added your game to my play list!

Holy Wow this is a good game. The UI is clean, sleek, pretty. The graphics are pixel-perfect. The theme is fun and new. The progression is well designed. You've gained yourself a follower, I can't wait to see what you build next!

Those are some incredibly kind words from an internet stranger. Thank you kindly. I hope I can live up to these expectations ;)

Really cool game! My only nitpick is the text, though I see someone already said it so yeah. Still, a really fun game! I really love the collecting currency from enemies system!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Please, nitpick away! The more I hear people say stuff about the text, the more likely I am to give it priority in future games I make. :)

I'm glad you enjoyed that currency system. I was really excited to try it out.

It was a lot of fun. The art and sound effects are really charming. Reminds of old flash games. Wish the gameplay was a little more tied to the theme, but that doesn't make the game not fun. Good job and good luck!

Developer(+1)

Hey, thanks for checking it out! Glad you had fun :)

I took a lot of inspiration from those old games, for sure. Oh, and my take on the theme was to make CHAOS into the titular acronym: Can Hippos Achieve Outer Space? I like to think of themes as guides or inspirations, but I'm always willing to sacrifice the rating on that metric in favor of doing something more interesting for me and less bound by the theme.

Submitted

Thats respectable. You did a good job so I think it was a good choice.

This was not something I was expecting to find in a jam, very creative coming up with an acronym with the jam theme, really cool! Resulted in a game with a funny goal. The movement felt quite nice and smooth which improves how the game plays.

The art wasn't the best thing ever but there's something charming about it. The text for the upgrades seemed a little hard to read and I didn't realize the things like scales were needed to purchase some upgrades, if you could make those stand out a bit more, that'd be great!

Developer

Thanks for checking it out! Yeah, the text got deprioritized, much to my now-sleep-restored brain. I'm glad you enjoyed it and I appreciate the feedback. It's tough to draw a line for myself with the pixel art. I know a lot of it should be improved, but I end up spending too much time on it otherwise. I think my biggest mistake was not setting a pixel scale for myself, so I ended up making them however I felt, then scaling as needed after the fact, making it look really inconsistent. Lesson learned though!

Interesting game, very chaotic gameplay. Good job. :)

Developer

Thanks for playing! :)

Really liked this entry. Some great progressive game design. I loved how in the early stages you could choose to use your collections as almost like a shield. As others have said, this game is very addictive. Great stuff all around, I had a lot of fun.

Developer

Thanks for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I was very excited about the pickups functioning sort of like health buffers. I'm glad you enjoyed that, too :)

5s across the board for this one.

Game design: chaotic and cool

fun: very, and the upgrades make sense and work amazing

innovation: genius Can Hippos Achieve Outer Space

Theme: that

Graphics: great, and ui looks good but the text doesn't, still 5 stars though

audio: music good

great job man this is by far my favorite game this jam.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the high praise! I think just a few hours ago you said in discord that you hadn't given all 5s, let alone 4s, to any game yet lol. <3

I appreciate you and thank you for playing!

Great graphic and very interesting gameplay. The text font is really hard to read which is a pretty big deal for a game that involve a lot of reading like this but still a pretty good game!

Also I would love to hear your thought and rating on my game if you interested, please give it a try!

Yeah, the text got deprioritized and re-implemented poorly by my sleep addled brain. Sorry it gave you issues. Were you able to play in fullscreen with any better luck? Either way, thanks for playing. I really appreciate it :)

I've added your game to my queue.

yeah I can play in fullscreen

Amazing game  and cool idea of collecting obstacles to upgrade. Only downside is that it is too addictive ;)). Good job!

Developer(+1)

I apologize, I will try to make it less addictive with the post-jam update ;P

Thanks for checking it out!

The rocket controlled really well and the game had a very satisfying progression to it.  The art as well is very unique and nice. I liked the animated hippo on the screen lol. And I reached "TOO MANY COINS" haha

Developer(+1)

Ha, I guess I made the too many coins number too low because it sounds like a few folks have gotten there. Congrats and thanks for playing :)

One of the best games I've seen in the game jam! Super creative and well done!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Wow! I spent a while to finish this game, and never got bored! Well done, dude. BTW, I got soo many coins, it became Too Many and the game crashed due to 64 bit limitations! Awesome game, one of the best so far!

Developer

Hahahaha, you BROKE it?? Well done! Yeah, I added the 'TOO MANY' as a joke, but didn't realize how easy it was to get there if one was persistent.

Thanks for playing, I appreciate it :)

Submitted(+1)

The art style felt really personal and nice. Fun sound design! The rocket had a nice "weight" to it and was satisfying to handle. Great ideá with the upgrade menu to give replayability althought it was a little hard to read. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! I'm glad to hear you comment on the feel of the rocket. That seems to be hit or miss with a lot of folks. I agree the upgrade menu is a bit tough. I think it's easiest in full screen, but I still should have given more care to the readability! Thanks for the feedback! I hope you enjoyed yourself :)

Submitted(+1)

I really love the art and sound design. This game seems way more advanced and polished than most in the game and is really fun to play. Well done!

I really appreciate it if you could play and rate my game. Thanks!

Developer

Hey, thanks for playing. I appreciate your kind words :)

I've added your game to my play list!

This is really really good! I love the idea of hippos going to space, especially the way you mixed it with 'CHAOS'. This game is really fun to play, and I really appreciate that it saves my progress so that I can come back to it later. The hippo's expressions is a really nice touch.

Great Job!

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks for playing!

The hippo's reactions were a late add actually. I realized on the last day that my game about hippos going to space had frighteningly few hippos. I had to deliver on that! lol
