Finished the game, it was pretty fun and I really liked the idea.
At first I felt like the movement was a bit sluggish, but after playing a bit more it actually fits the games main game mechanic pretty well.
The music was also really nice, and the small detail with the player rotating a little based on their velocity is a really nice touch.
I would also maybe make the controls of the game easier to find, as the first time I played I got stuck on the level that introduces the screws, I then realized the controls were in the help section of the game, which I completely missed when I launced the game.
The ring around the player is also fairly bright/saturated, while the middle part of the player is pretty dark in contrast, so I'd make that part brighter possibly. That plus maybe changing the tiles a bit to make the players/magnets pop out a bit more, not too sure though.
Anyways, the main mechanics of the game were pretty good, and there's for sure a lot of potential for new ideas that could work well with the mechanics, so good job on the game!
Note: I was also able to no clip through some of the levels with the activated walls by just activating a screw that would deactivate the pad keeping the wall open, while I was like beside the wall, so that was pretty fun to mess around with lol.
The controls are really nice I love how the character rotates as you move! I did get stuck on level 4 though, not sure how to move the nail. Am I missing something?
Hey thanks so much for playing! For moving magnetic objects, if you hold down "J" you can begin placing a magnet screw, and you can actually screw it in place once you have it the desired spot by releasing the "J" key. (Also a fun little extra hint, you might try seeing if you can place the screw on a wall :). Once you have these magnets placed, you can press Space to toggle their magnetic fields.
Also yeah, sorry if it wasn't conveyed super well haha. We kind of ran out of time for making in-game things to teach the player the controls, and so we just added a little help page that listed some of the controls on the main menu (though it still isn't super comprehensive haha). One of the challenges I'm finding in making games is effectively & organically teaching the player the controls and how to play the game. It's kind of hard to know what to teach them as I have been developing it and play-testing it so much, I don't know what is easy to pick and what isn't haha. I definitely want to try and get better at that for next time! Thanks for the feedback and hopefully this helps!
The game is really fun and interesting, I love the gameplay and it is really smooth.
Thanks so much for playing!! I’m glad you enjoyed it :)
Your welcome, do you think that you could play my game; it would be great to get another dev's view on it.
Yeah definitely! I was planning on playing it after work :)
Cool, thanks!
