Really cool game not gonna lie, I really like the art work and the polish on this, a bit more explanation on what i am supposed to actually be doing and maybe a title screen where it has a controls button and a how to play button wouldn't go a miss, really nice game and I'm sure it is even nicer when you know how to play. Good game overall though!

Graphics and level of polish and details are impressive! The characters are funny and unusual. And overall the game is stylistically cohesive which is a great achievement for a jam game.

I can't say I quite get the gameplay. Decisions seemed to me rather obvious every time: get some shield, do damage, heal if low on health (never was). And the role of random seems to be too high.

I really enjoyed playing this game!

Unfortunately I got stuck at level 5 because the healer kept healing itself back to full health and I wasn't able to one shot it, so the balance could be improved... On the bright side I really appreciated the fact that the slots affected by the purple dices light up when you hover another dice on the purple one, that's neat!

Since I didnt' go higher than level 5 I don't know if it's a feature that already exists but I would've loved to have the option to use more dice than 3 per turn, to be able to make even cooler combinations. The way the slots are presented is super cool, too (kinda makes me think of an invocation board or something, haha!) and makes for interesting combinations.

Overall the concept and the art are really fun and I look forward to play it again in the future, especially if you release an improved version ^^

So I want to start by saying the game is great, but here comes some more detailed feedback if you don't mind:

Theme: It fits the theme really well, I think that the fact the theme is not that obvious at first is a big plus since a lot of people just went for the basic co-op game, not saying that its bad that they made a co-op game, I'm saying that this is a great way to look at stronger together

Art: Gorgeous pixel art and I really like the style of it, its really unique. One issue I have is that the text can be quite hard to read sometimes, the text from what the dice do, the text fits well but it is way to small.

Music: A simple soundtrack, it gets quite repetitive after some time but its great, it gives a nice sense of mystery which is always nice. The sound effects were simple but effective, nothing over the top so they were crisp and nice.

Fun: I think the game is really fun, though at times some enemies tend to heal after my every attack so its basically an infinite chain of "I attack-enemy heals- I attack- enemy heals", but that may also be because I have not reached really far.

Game design: The first thing it reminded me is that its a combination of dicey dungeons and slay the spire, which is not necessarily bad since the game also brings its own thing to the table, and also because the art is quite different.

TL:DR

Great game with an interesting mechanic that creates a nice atmosphere wanting you to play it even more! Great job! :)

Although the game is a little hard, I spent over an hour on it, I love the combo mechanics, the graphics and sounds are really cool. Big big gg

Such an incredible game! The pixel art and animations are out of this world, the music fits perfectly and the game is just such a joy to play.

I can't wait to play it more when the enemies are updated!

Great Job! I like the idea behind the game! The graphics are great too! Tho the game is very difficult, I can't go past floor 5 and it took me some time to understand the mechanics but it is understandable becuase this was made in a week

After learning how to use the die together was like my third eye opening. I played this for like an hour in a row. Super duper fun, and excellent work!!! Love how hard it is too, I wouldn't say that the toughness is a bad thing, makes me want to get better and advance more!

really would have used a tutorial, but heck thats a good idea. Probably the most creative ive seen. its really cool. The execution could use a bit of love, but you've got something really neat going on (:

Consider trying out our game too!

I seriously LOVED this game, absolutely fantastic! I of course wish there was a bit more balance, but that is reasonable with the amount of time you had to playtest. The theme was great, the art was fantastic, the mechanics were good, all around incredible. I played for a while and couldn't get past an enemy that healed for ~16 HP a turn, so maybe there needs to be some value clamping on that? but otherwise, an absolutely LOVELY game. 5 starts across the board.

This is simply amazing. Simple yet deep gameplay and beautiful visual. This looks like a game that was made over years and then sold on Steam. Remind me of Slay the Spire but with a different "roll" on the genre.

Developer(+1)

Wow, that's high praise! Slay the Spire was definitely one of our inspirations, so you bringing it up means a lot! Thanks for the comment ;)

This is definitely my favorite game of the jam so far! That dice mechanic is so addicting, and the art and UI are flawless! Actually gonna download this one to play when I'm bored haha

Thank you! That comment was so nice, I actually was playing your game when I saw your comment, cool coincidence I must say :P

I utterly love the art in this game and dice assignment mechanics are some of my favourite in board games! The little dice tray in particular was just such a nice bit of art that also tied in really way as a presentation of what you rolled. From a UI perspective I personally would have liked for the effect that shows which tiles a purple die effects to stick around whilst you're placing other dice, just because it's easy to forget. Also ofc a greater variety of dice would be great but for what it is this game is great!

Developer

Thank you very much for your comment!

I wonder if you realized that if you hover the magic die placed on board, you can look at the range again.

Top notch game, my favorite so far and it will definitely stay in my top picks! The art is gorgeous, the animations are great, and the gameplay is very fun. I played 2 runs but couldn't make it to the end, will definitely try to make it thru the game in the future! Have you played Dicey Dungeons? because this really reminds me of that (I havent played Slay the Spire).

One thing that blew me away was that when you upgraded the magic dice, it would increase in  power, but also decrease in flexibility since you couldn't use it on as many dice!

I'm gonna nitpick about minor things about the game, but that's only because everything else is so fundamentally excellent that there's nothing substantial to criticize.

- I kind of wish that the rest of the dice also worked that way where they used the board positioning more. Like for instance what if the block dice stayed on the board so you couldn't use those spaces next turn?  (just an example)

- I feel like for a game like this, it might be best to break the deckbuilder roguelike trope of 3 mana per turn, since it would make fitting the pieces together more difficult if you have more dice to slot each turn.

- When choosing to pick a new dice, I wish that there was some information about the dice you  would pick, since as is I never picked that option since it could just dilute my deck with filler.

- An animation showing the dice rolling each turn would really help players understand the game. It took me a while to figure out the the dice had already been rolled when my turn started, I thought that they would roll once i finished my turn and I didn't understand the ranges at the beginning.

Overall outstanding job! Professional quality

Developer

Thank you so much for your kind review! None of us have play Dicey Dungeons, but we know about the game and how it works, this game took much more inspiration from Slay the Spire (game which some of us have spend countless hours on). Also, we really apreciate that you took the time to write your opinion and critique about the game, it helps a lot! However,  that "dice that stays for some turns", there is already a characteristic like that, hope this is a nice motivation for you to play it again :P . If you maintain the pointer on the dice it gives you a brief description about that dice, but I must say it could provide more information. And about that dice roll animation, it does play every time you draw a new dice, did it not play in your game?

Submitted

Lmao I realized how inattentive I was on my first few playthroughs of the game, I had gotten the heavy block die before but had only played it when it rolled a 1 so it disappeared the next turn. There was also a dice rolling animation, but I don't know why I never noticed it. I think it's because there's the movement of new dice spawning on top of the rolling animation.

Submitted

also what were the numbers on the far left and right of the screen? I never quite understood that

Developer

Your inventory on the left (dices that are in your deck and you may draw next turn) and discard pile on your right (dices that you have used and will go to your deck once it is empty) You can click on them to play already knowing which dices you may draw next turn ^^

Submitted

Ohhhh, neat! Also would it be alright if I asked you the screen resolution of the game? I wanted to take screenshots and scale them into Aseprite so I can study them, would that be alright with you?

Developer

Sure! The resolution I did the background is 320x180 pixels

thanks!

Hands down amazing. This is the best game I play this jam.

It would be cool if power-up dice could power up other power-up dice, but I could see that causing some issues XD.

Also, it would be cool if you could keep your mana (use a 4 power-up dice with a 2 shield to get 6 shields and save your extra mana for the next turn.) Without this, 3 power dice feel better than 4. But just a suggestion. I could see this being an absolutely amazing game.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your review!

The thing you say about the "mana" it could be a new power or something. Also, there is a kind of special dices called "heavy" that remain on board some turns. Is the only way to have more than three dices on board.

In general, we would have liked to add some more magic dices, balanced the enemy "level" and spawn rate.

Lovely graphics and also very fun to play.

Congrats!
