I think there should have been more focus on the jump controls, I have no idea if it was a byproduct of adding forces or a design decision but the double jump seems like its dependent on 'thrust' so you go much higher if you quickly double press than you go trying to time it for the top of your jump. I also did the second jump of the tutorial level first time and now I just can't seem to clear the distance anymore.
The tutorials 'send back to start' mechanic is brutal, especially when you purposely make the player fall in when introducing the rewind mechanic. A bug I found is if you exit the game then go back in (I promise I didn't RQ :P) and try to avoid falling in the first time by using Q, the dialogue popup bugs you out and makes the rewind mechanic mess up before you can reach the collectable, at least it did for me.
Sorry if I seem negative, I just couldn't experience much of the game because of the above. I just kept dying and getting sent back to the start and I got frustrated seeing that I was making no progress.
That was tough, from level 5 it was so chaotic haha, you have to be sadistic to create an opening the size of the player then put TWO collectables in there!
I really liked this take on the theme. I wish time limits had been slightly longer on later levels as you're competing against your former self, and my former self kept making mistakes and holding me up :P sound and art were good and everything went together nicely, good job!
One thing I didn't understand, if you're going to make me use the mouse to press retry then why not let me do the portal with the mouse as well? having to keep moving my right hand is probably my one negative thing to say on the game

Nice game - sound would have been nice
The game definitely suffers from not having any written instructions or tutorial, I ended up destroying my own thingy the first time around. Are there move controls or am I like a fixed turret that is protecting the yellow thing? I tried WASD and arrow keys but nothing happened, robots kept coming the other side of the yellow thing so I couldn't shoot them.
That's weird, its working now and I usually check the description before I even play the game.
Definitely needs more enemies as I never have more than one on the map at a time and I would also tone down the screen shake by about half its current value as its quite a lot for something that is continuous. I like the rewind mechanic being used as a way of charging the player but it needs some conditions or collectables as its unlimited at the moment, there's just no way to lose your game lol
Here is my game https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-4/rate/720648
ill rate yours :D
I recognise this one! I was the person who gave you the suggestion for incorporating the theme.
This was the first 10 seconds of my experience, my alien was defective. No wonder the boss is complaining, how can you carry boxes like this!

The game is very simplistic but it doesn't make it any less fun, there is something very satisfying about when you get a clean run across the entire road without having to use the A or D key.
Good job, fun times were had.
p.s, would be nice to have a quit option somewhere so I don't have to alt f4 lol

Checking yours out now!
Really liked the game, I've seen one other game so far that uses the rewind to kill enemies mechanic but you are the first person I've seen use the finite tape length as part of the game.
I wish I could offer more feedback but I think you've executed this idea well and I really can't think of anything, good job!
Here's my game https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-4/rate/724011
I'll rate yours.
I played it, it was very fun!
https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-4/rate/722074 - Thanks in advance if you decide to play it!

This game has reminded me of why I never play bullethells, I am so bad at tracking things on the screen...
Really well made though even if its a genre I don't usually play. Sound effects are good, art style is perfect for the game and I really like how you've decided to implement the rewind.
For me, I would have preferred a lower res so I could see everything better as I'm getting blind in my older years but that's about the only negatives words I have to say.

I'm playing yours atm
lmao I saw the arrow pointing right and just kept running in that direction for a full minute before giving up to restart the game thinking it was bugged, realised the second time it was actually pointing at the thing to move on.
For some reason, the second boss guy disappeared on my screen for a few seconds, then appeared again as I died on one of my playthroughs.
I'm not very good at this genre but I found it even more difficult than usual to move out of the projectiles trajectory and I cannot pinpoint why.
I think the rewind mechanic would have served better if it was a shorter duration and the bosses health didn't revive as well otherwise it starts to feel like a slower version of respawning with a new life, or at least let me decide when the rewind stops as this gives the user some interesting decisions on whether to save the rewind for if things go completely pete tong or use it just to top their hp back up after a hit or two.
The game got a little easier for me once it gave me a sniper rifle, I liked this implementation of varying weapons as it kept things fresh and interesting.
Overall its a good game.
I really liked the art despite it not being what I'd consider 'beautiful artwork', it reminded me of when I was a kid playing flash games during Computer class.
The weapons need more work, like someone said before, I didn't really have much reason to use 1 and 2 as it was lower DPS and they didn't offer an interesting 'fun factor' to compensate for that.
the colliders seemed inconsistent, I could move through some things I didn't think I'd be able to and get stuck on others which made planning my path really confusing. I also think that collidable terrain in these types of games should be placed in such a way that allows the player to still travel around it 360 degrees as I got stuck a couple of times in a 'tunnel' area with enemies on top of my only way out.
It was a fun little game that's rough around the edges, just needs some polish and small improvements.
I'm playing yours and rating it now!

Firstly, congrats on getting your first game done and completing it within a game jam deadline!
There isn't anything revolutionary here but what you have done, you have done pretty well. The gameplay was smooth and bug free, the game goals were clear with easy instructions and I enjoyed the fact that I could 'constrict' enemies like a snake to make them destroy each other which isn't something I see implemented very often.
There is room for further implementation to deepen the gameplay but you can be proud with what you've achieved in a short time.

Man this game is frustrating, when you have no choice but to use up your bar then you may as well just restart because there's no way you're not getting hit 2-3 times while locked in one position.
If it were me then I wouldn't penalise the player for using the games mechanics by running the bar out because they wanted to aim when the punishment is so damning.
You've made a game that requires hypermobility but made that very difficult to manage, I'm not sure if this was a design decision or not as I know some people like games that cause you to tear your hair out and mald.
I am not a fan of punishing games like that but just because I don't like it doesn't mean its bad.
The pickups are cool, graphics are as good as they need to be for the type of game, the mechanics themselves are well implemented and the game feels completely bug free.
Its a solid game that I'm sure most sadists will enjoy.
Not bad but something about the controls felt 'off', I was flying off of ledges when I feel like I should not have been. Level 2 was incredibly frustrating because the enemy on the ramp would constantly shoot me the moment I reached his platform and there didn't seem to be anything I could do about it apart from pray that RNG lets me kill them before they shoot a projectile.
Alas I persevered and saw the word rotted.
I think my two main recommendations would be adjusting the players controls a bit and using a cinemachine camera and tweak the settings for some look ahead etc
Art was good, music fit the game and overall a solid effort.
https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-4/rate/723284 Congratulations on the jam!
I managed to break the game by running out of charge at just the right time and getting stuck bouncing up and down in this spot while turning lmao
I also got stuck on the green part further up bouncing back and forth between them at the very top without getting up the ledge, was upsetting when I fell back to the bottom.
Really like the whole aesthetics and use of the theme in this game, the gameplay is simple but addictive, feels a bit like I was playing getting over it with bennett foddy

just gave you a rating now, good job! Pls rate me: https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-4/rate/724751
should only take you 2 mins to complete. thanks!
For when a minute just isn't long enough haha pretty cool game, had some fun trying to find stuff.
My main areas for improvement would be:

The procedural generation could use a bit of work, I got a couple of levels that I just couldn't seem to reach the portal .
The range weapon has such a long visual cast but basically required me to stand on top of enemies which was a bit strange.
Also, I couldn't figure out why on some runs I would get 200 on my blue bar and others I would get 100 even though it was the same level, what was the deciding factor for that?
Fair decent game with good artwork that just needs some fine tuning to make the overall experience more enjoyable.
I will rate everyone’s game who rates mine! :) Here it is - https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-4/rate/723041
I btw, rated your game too!
The hitboxes on the enemies definitely need to be made bigger. Between my shuriken/knife having drop off, the enemies hitboxes being so tiny and the tiny enemy type being irritably fast moving, I couldn't hit a damn thing!
In the end I did the opposite of what the game intended and sprinted past every enemy and went straight to the dimensional portal. The potential is there and I liked the superhot mechanic but I need to be able to hit things to properly enjoy it lol
Your game is so addictive! It's simple, entertaining and fun to play. I spent a good amount of time trying to buy all 3 VCRs and the shoes. Liked it a lot!
Here's mine: https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-4/rate/721787
I liked the overall 2020 theme you've gone for but the game was a bit confusing for me. The game had me bouncing my head off bad things and the whole time I was wondering 'am I winning?' lol.
Then on the next stage I'm running into people without a power-up and it looks like blood is spraying as they are destroyed so I have no idea if im the hero or the villain here!
The bad balls travel wayyyy too fast and seem to collide much earlier than the camera view would suggest, I've not managed to dodge one yet which is a bit disheartening.
The good collectables are also very unpredictable, I was just about to collect 'Hope' and then it immediately jumped to the other side of the screen leaving me no time to redirect my player and still get it.
I'd like to see faster gameplay, more 'predictable' behaviour patterns from the good collectables and either a better camera angle or smaller hitbox from the bad collectables.
Rated yours! the upgrade system made me wanted to play more!
here's mine: https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-4/rate/719481 , thanks!
A few things I noticed:
Its a pretty cool game, I like the graphics and the sound effects work but it does have some common 'FPS sins' when it comes to AI behaviour that needs to be ironed out
