Neat concept for a game.I loved how bob looks he seems like a nice dude :D.My problem is that tha game feels a bit repetitive is there a goal to reach? or we are doing it endlessy? I would like to play this game post jam to see what it became :D Overall nice work!
Thank you! Yes, he's a cool dude!
I'm afraid you're absolutely right. It's endless by now, no final goal, and no use of the money. I'm working right now in a new update to make it much more fun, with upgrades and other stuffs.
I played your game . It's really funny!
Really fun and a very cool theme, Bob is a nice dude
Thanks! Yes, he's a cool guy who loves what he does. And with the new update coming soon, he'll love it even more!
Cool intro and cool game!
I like the art style of it, and I could see it developing into one of these tycoon games. It fits the style of a tycoon game very well. But there's still a lot of work to be done, but you are working on it.
Because it's still so undone, I can't give too much feedback. The movement was surprisingly good, though. Just navigating between all the shelves was a bit difficult. Maybe space them out more? Well, and a simple touch I would have loved would be parodies of the movie names. That can be really funny.
Anyway, the game looks promising. Good luck with updating it!
Thank you very much for your review! Yes, there's a lot of room for improvements that i'm working on it. I don't think I made it before this weekend due to personal issues. But as soon as I finish it, I'll publish.
About the movie parodies: yes, I thought of that, cause right now I can 't make money of it, except I'll like to be sued by the film companies lol.
With all the improvements i'm doing, I will seriously consider the idea. Thanks again
Wow your game is amazing. I really like the idea and the environment. Had a lot of fun playing it! Good job :)
Thank you! I'm working on the upgrade system, and tweaking things to make it more fun.
Your game is awesome too!
Got my blockbuster on!
Yeah! But this one doesn't bankrupt! Thank for playing!
Hey, I played it, and I think it's too far the best game about rewinding vhs in this jam.
I liked the idea, and this nostalgia about our old good films ( and I felt in love with cinema before falling in love with video games); I liked also the very rhytmic gameplay. This last point lead to another one which annoy me: the game is too slow, due to lag. Iknow that this may be caused by developping it for the web. You should have known for that, but ok it' a jam... I, unfortunatly, got an error that made the game freeze completely, and that ruined my experience. Some other details are good, like the design, and graphics with the good using of blender... It will be infinitely better if you optimize it ,i'm looking forward for it!
Thank you very much for your kind words!
Unfortunately I had some issues when exporting to WebGL. It was my first 3D game in WebGL in Itch.io. I didn't know I need to tweet some thing before uploading. Big problem was I realized this just a few hours after the Jam ends, and had a lot of visual things I had to do by that time, plus the music (ended composing just 3 hours after the deadline) so I decided to add the Quality level on the main menu to at least try to make it playable on lower end systems. But it was a patch more than a real solution. Of course in the unity editor it works like charm. But as I said, some tweaking will do for the big Update coming after the rating period ends.
Thanks again and congratulations on your game too!
Awesome game, mate! I enjoyed the gameplay, and the 3d models were satisfactory (ore than I could every have done lol) The intro in the beginning was quite fun as well. Though the music was not very good, the SFX was.
Thank you! Yes, I'm proud of the 3d models, looks like 2 years watching Blender tutorials finally come useful!
Agreed with you about the music. Definitely wasn't the best part. I wasn't inspired at all, and wrote it just 3 hours before the Jam ends.
Thanks again and congratulations on your game!
Nice graphics and sound, but it quickly started to fell repetitive to me. The inventory system seems good, but maybe (not sure how) there might be a way to move around it quicker than using the arrows. Also, level 1? There are levels? In summary, there seems to be space for improvement :)
Thanks!
Totally agreed with you about the improvement. And that's what I'm working during this rating period. Run out of time for implementing the level and economy/shop/upgrade system. Please check again later. There's a major update coming after the jam ends!
Very fun game!I enjoyed the art style and the music of the game. The models and animations were impressive, given the fact that you only had a week developing this game. I kind of felt like the game felt a little repetitive, I just wish there could've been more action and mechanic involved. But again, considering you've made this high quality models and animations within a week, I also can't really expect variety of mechanics.
Overall impressive work! Well done!
Thank you for your kind words! It's nice to see others value the effort during such short time period (wish I could "rewind" to correct some thing LOL)
But yes, you're correct. It's very repetitive, also kind of addicting game. That's why I'm working on a big Update to exploit that repetitive pattern, adding more fun to the gameplay (or at least that's my goal).
Thanks again. And congratulations on your game! Great work.
Interesting game, it's a bit confusing at the beginning but when you learn the controls and mechanics turns into a really cool experience. Nice!
Thank you very much!
Nice graphics, good concept and could be built upon nicely.
A nice game, but the goal of the game wasn't very clear. Loved the animation. Some form of tutorial level would be nice. A great game overall.
Yes, there's no goal right now. It's endless. Will be a final goal in the future update, plus upgrade and shop system, and a lot more of cool stuff.
Thank you for your comment!
I'm sorry but this game wasn't fun for me. I played for some time and was wondering why I never lost then I read Dr Umbrus comment and your answer and realized there was no ending. It felt a little tedious but I'm sure with the improvements you are working on it will be much more fun. And I think the character controlled really well :)
Yes, I understand your point. After you understand the mechanic, there's no challenge right now. I'm exactly working on that part now. Find a good middle ground of how many vhs the customers return, which genre they return, how many of them are left on each stand, etc.
Plus the upgrade system will be a huge improvement from the actual state.
Thank you for your comment!
I just saw your Twitch streaming. Thank for playing man!
Nice Star Wars scroller. I had fun playing. the graphics (3d models) were very well done. Liked the effect of NPCs outside that I had to take a stroll out there too for fun!
Great job!
Could you please play and rate my game as well?
https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-4/rate/723414
Thank you very much! Yes! That's why I leave the door open. There's no point, just fun.
I tried and rate your game. Good Job!
Unlike others about video rentals, I like that you can run all over the store and the 3D graphics look very pleasing to the eye! Very good work!
Thank you very much!
For some reason I feel like this game has incredible Finnish energy.
I specialized in rewinding horror tapes (best genre!) so all those copies of Evil Dead got taken care of fast.
Bit embarrassing, but it took me a bit of time to realize that you can move on a 3D plane, at first I was like “the light is green, why can’t I get any tapes?” until I realized I have to move, uh, to the back, haha. That’s me being a dummy.
Oh yeah - the intro scroll was a fun touch!
Great job for a solo jam game, even if you ran out of time to implement a bigger goal and/or progression (we kinda had the same issue)
Thank you! Yeah, Horror are the best!
About the 3d plane: at least you realize in time to enjoy the game! But I'll take that as a possible issue with other people, so will add some tip about the movement in the upcoming Update.
Yes, the bigger goal is always a problem in a Jam. You always come to great ideas.... when the jam is about to end ☹
But there's always the change to update later, at least for the rest of the world to enjoy it.
Interesting mechanic in your game too. I leave a review and rated it! Good job!
Really really nice game! I loved the artwork and the game design. Also the idea and the way you managed to implement it into your entry are extremely well done. Congrats!
There's a comment down below by Dr Umbrus which has pretty much every possible improvement I was going to mention, so I won't repeat it. Apart from those, I did find it way to hard to start playing and get used to the game, maybe a deeper tutorial to make it easier for dummies like me would be nice lol.
But still I loved your game and it's definitely a top entry for me, good job and keep it up!
Also would really appreciate if you could check out my game and leave a rating, thanks :)
Thank you very much!
Yes. As I answered Dr Umbrus, I'm working on improving all those unavoidable flaws due to lack of time.
Most of them I've foresaw during the development, but as you know, time runs very fast on a Jam.
And as my first Solo Jam, everything was on me. Plus the family, the kids, the need to sleep. So I had to make as Brackeys said in one of his videos about GameJams... Moscow: Must have / Should have / Could have / Won't have. And start cutting things and leaving them in the "ToDo" list.
But stay tuned for the update after the Jam, with lots of improvements!
Thanks again for your kind words.
BTW: I tried, reviewed and ranked your game. It's awesome! Congratulations on that one!
Definitely will keep track of this game for new updates! And yeah time flies during the jam week and the fact that you managed to do all this game by yourself while having a normal life is just amazing, I loved it. Good job and keep it up! Also thank you so much for the review :)
Really fun game! Hehe. I love you used real movie names in the game :)
I think the concept is great! However I found my self lost a couple of times. I didn't know which genre's tapes I had / which were rewinded. IDK maybe there is just too many categories at the start? You could start with a couple of them and increase them in later levels.
Great game in overall. I really enjoyed it!
Thank you!
Yes, definitely there will be a tweeking with the number of initial Genres, but will increase over time.
Stay tuned for a big update as soon as the Rating period ends!
Had a lot of fun playing this. Probably my favourite game of the jam so far.
Though, I have some questions :
-Is there a way to lose ? I didn't seem to find one, and as such, it made the game feel infinite with no real purpose to continue. Even more since VHS are coming way faster than you can rewind them, which results in a depressing growing stack of 200 vhs.
-What is the point of the "Level 1" ? And the money ? I played for quite some times, but the first one never changed, and the other was only going up, so both felt pointless.
-Also, does every genre has the same odds of appearing ? Cause I was drowned by action/adventure/comedies, but didn't see a western or a fiction until I was at something like 700$, while they were empty. So, I don't know if I'm just being unlucky, but that was weird. If it's fully random, you should try tweaking it so it tends to favor your empty/close to empty genres.
-How is the character fat, with his day job making him run 400km, with stairs, every day ?
But as I said, that game was a lot of fun. Graphisms were good for a jam, and I was impressed by the work on the background. The music is quiet enough to not becoming painful after too many loops, while also being quite long, for jam standards.
So, in the end, I realized there wasn't a collider on the exit of the store, and made my character quit his job to become the marathon runner he always was meant to be.
Hi. Thank you for playing and for your comment.
Let me answer your questions:
- No, right now there's no way to loose.
- Level and money: run out of time for implementing the shop system. The table with the phone and the newspaper has this purpose, even part of the script, but have to cut it or I wouldn't been able to upload in time for the Jam.
- No, they don't. I start adding films based on what I watched or remembered. Added 75 films. Then, during playtest I realize the issue you point: lots of Action/Adventure/Comedy films, but very few on the other Genres. The tweek you mention is part of the upgrade I'm working on right now 😉
- One of the unfair mysteries of the genetics.
- Yes, the background was a fun idea I stole from other project i'm working on. Been creating buildings for that other project, so i had a lot of practice for doing them fast. And the music... is not the best point of the game, I know. Finished writing it just 2 hours before the Jam ends.
About the store exit... yeah! Run Bob! Be free! But realize that if you do so, the store will bankrupt and close!
Stay tuned for the update that will include: Shop System / Upgrade VCR System / Increasing difficult / More balanced movies / and a lot more fun!
Thanks again for your words
I've played a game very similar to yours, but yours is a lot more interactive, there is a lot more button inputs which I enjoyed! You paid a lot of attention on the visuals, good job! :3
Hope you had fun making it!! ^^
Thank you very much! I really had fun making every part of it. And still doing while I make the update. Will release it after the Rating period ends. Hope you try it again when done 🙂
