simply aswm!!!
nice job man or women!!!
this game is setting bars too high for the jam!!!
Thank you very much! (BTW I'm a dude)
Tried yours. It was hard at first. But then manage to understand the mechanics and finished a level (with the GameOver and the Congratulations together!)
Great job with the art and music. This game has a really nice atmosphere and feel. The main game play was interesting and I can see room for more strategy to be added later. I also really enjoyed the cheeky star wars texts at the beginning of the game.
For me there were two major issues. One was that my action didn't feel like they had much of an impact. There was the money counter in the comer, but since there wasn't anything that you could buy this felt pretty insignificant. The other problem was pacing. The entire game was a mad rush to get out as many vhs tapes rewound as possible, and with no breaks this can be a little draining. What I think would help is to have "days" that act likes levels and give the players a bit of a break from the rush, a better feeling of accomplishment, and perhaps a chance to spend some of the money that they earn.
Obviously these are a little nit picky, but I think something like this would help the game a lot. Great work.
Thank you mate! Yes, all you mention was in my ToDo list. But was impossible for me alone to implement them in time.
Stay in touch for the upcoming big Update with all you mention and more.
Loved your game!
This is such a unique concept of a game; it really takes you back to a different era. I was definitely left with the feeling of wanting more as the game went on and I am really hoping to see more features added to this game in the future,
One thing I would suggest is to maybe have a side bar which shows the amount of movies that are rewinded to make it easier for the player:
Movies left to rewind:
[Action] 3/11
[Comedy] 3/3
[Horror] 0/5
It would make it a lot more accessible than having to switch back and forth from the menu.
Nice job on this jam! Please post updates if you plan on continuing with this game.
Thank you very much!
About the movie list, you can sort them by different criteria with Q key (or Y button on Gamepad) like Name, Genre, Length and Rewinded. The rule I used during playtest was sorting by Rewinded in the basement, and by Genre in the Store Upstairs. But if anything more interesting or dynamic comes to my mind after the update, promise to implemented.
Also , keep up for the big Update after the Review Period, which will include: Shop / Upgrade system, More movie Genres, more NPC with different behaviors and some extra goodies!
Wow I feel soo tired after playing this game. The game escalates so quickly I could hardly keep up.
Somethings that stood out in the game
Great game , I didn't find any major bugs so far , just that Bob sometimes jumps while he is coming up the stairs and he is on top of the selves, very minor bug as Bob can easily come down from it.
Improvements
Honestly this is one of the better polished game I have played in this jam, well done dude. I rate it highly!
Thank you very much! Really appreciate your words!
Yeah, Bob's brother was a last minute idea, to have someone taking care of the cash. I didn't want hims to be chubby too, but didn't have time to work on a new model, so I start to duplicate Bob's model and modifying as I could.
The characters (all of them) were made from scratch in one day (Wednesday if my mind don't fail me) and they're all Bob's based. Except the females, which makes it hard to adapt from Bob's anatomy, so I kept the head, and start the body from scratch.
And you're right, I barely sleep. 4 to 5 hours during the week. And during Friday.... I woke up at 10am, and stay awake until Saturday 9am (the Jam ends at Saturday 7am here)
About the money... I wanna make an Shop or Upgrade system, but run out of time. Had to polish other things, so I had to leave it for the Update after the review period. But promise it will be much more fun after that Update. So stay tuned!
Thanks again!
I think its funnier that Bob is on the chubbier side, love the irony. Also if you could have customers complain when Bob pushes them and customers showing gratitude when he fills up an empty shelve the customer is looking at, that would add a layer of personality as well. Currently customers feel very 2d even though its a 3d game. Hope that makes sense , I have followed you so I will play the updated version as well. Keep it up bro :D
Really cool! I liked the feel and theme of it. One suggestion I have is to not have the pop up box. It breaks the feel of the game. Even though it had it's flaws, I still really enjoyed its charm! Nicely done in a week!
I also think I crashed the game by letting all the vhs tapes go! Hahaha. I had my fun.
Thank you! What do mean by pop up box?
The inventory essentially. I feel like it ruins the flow for me. Another suggestion is you could even possibly make it easier to interact instead of completely removing it.
Mmm... gonna have that in mind, and see what comes out.
Well done, I like the game and how implemented the concept. Also I like that you put all the moviesnames .. this is really nice..specially for who was renting Vhs many years ago.
Good Job.
If you wanna rate my game is https://misterm.itch.io/mixtape-match , Thanks
Thanks! Check for the big update after the Jam. More movies, and info bbout them. Also Upgrade system and other interesting features to make it more challenging.
BTW: reach level 9 of your game. Nicely done!
Hey man this is well done, I played it for longer that I would like to admit lol.
Things I liked:
Things I disliked:
Good entry man, nicely done.
Thank you for your review! Appreciate! And completely agreed with you about the dislikes. The music wasn't my first composition. I ended "writing" it at 4am local time, just 3 hours after the jam ended. Try to compose a more professional piece before: picked my guitar, but had completely lack of inspiration, and my music theory is at a beginner's level LOL About the mechanics, I run out of time for the upgrade system and the increase difficult curve.
But if you like to see more, please come back at the end of the review period for a major update, with lots of cool new stuffs (most from the "ToDo" list during the jam, and other that come to my mind recently)
Thanks again!
Great game! I really enjoyed playing and I hope more people play it because it's very well done!
Thank you very much! Glad you like it! Love your game too! It's really funny and challenging!
The gameplay is so fun! The idea, theme and ambience are refined and in the point. Really appreciate the difficulty too, created a unique experience.
Amazing job!
Thank you very much! I really like your game too! Rated and reviewed ;)
Great idea, good theme, and some vibes from Overcooked.
Missing some challenge and maybe the UI could be easier/more precise.
Hope you'll keep working on it!
Thanks! Yes. Took me too much time designing the scene and the characters. I run out of time for improve the gameplay. But as you saw in the Community board post, I have big update plans after the Jam rating period ends.
Thank you again for your words!
I really like this game. It is fun and hard. But I didn't found any GameOver possibility, which could be really fun. The graphics are great and the list of movies is quiet big (makes me nostalgic). It could be good to be able to sort the movies by Rewing/not rewind (to easily put back the movies at the right place).
Hi. Thank you for your comments.
You can use Q key (or Y button on Gamepad) to sort the list by different topics (Name, Genre, Lenght, Rewinded).
I ran out of time, but I also wanted to add an "info" button to watch the movie cover and the release year.
Same with the GameOver rule, and a lot of things from the "ToDo" list.
Plan to release a major update after the voting period, so stay tuned!
This game is great! I love playing it. The controls are great and fluid. My only improvement would be a quality of life, when you select a shelf, the selection defaults to any type of that same genre already selected. This game was my first idea in this jam and I wouldn't have created something as good.
Thanks for the feedback! That's a nice idea! Was my first time working with Lists and just though the idea of sorting by different categories could help. During my playtest, i sort the movie list by Genre, so I could spot easier the genre. But I guess your idea would be faster for the players.
Keep it up for news and upgrades. Had a lot of ideas I couldn't manage to put them in time before the deadline.
Played your game. Awesome. Some Stranger Things-esque story and music. Love it!
I love this game. I am wondering if you will keep the game up after the jam?
You can count on that. The "ToDo" list is still active. Had a lot of great ideas, but the lack of time played against them :(
The upgrade system was the main one (that's why there's a Cash system and the table with the phone and the newspaper. But as I made the game alone and completely from scratch, it was impossible to do everything I'd got in my mind.
But keep it up for new as soon as the evaluation period ends.
What a great game! It's fun and the controls are great. It gave me lots of great memories of going to VHS stores back in the 90s. Play it!
Thank you!
OMG I loved the game it was soooooo fun!
Thank you! I played your. It was fun. Had to download the windows version.
Thx is this game going to stay up after the jam?
Such a strong story and amazing take on the theme. Really nice work. Cool unique mechanics and very nostalgic of the old video store days. Nice work!
Thank you for your comment! Yours is very good too. Just finished it
Really love the graphics and general feel of this! Good work! I worked in a VHS store in the 90s haha.. I couldn't work out a way to close the movies screen when you're putting them back on the shelves, so if I didn't have a rewound video for that genre I couldn't carry on.. not sure if this was just me - but otherwise really loved it.. good job! Check out my game too if you get time. Cheers!
Thank you so much for your comment.
Me too! Worked in a VHS store in 1997. Mostly delivery, but was my first job during High School.
Yes, I should had put some hint to show/hide the "Inventory" . The key is TAB or Y on Xbox Controller.
Keep it up for Updates. I couldn't put some great ideas for lack of time. But they will be there soon, after the evaluation period.
BTW: Love your game! Awesome work!
Haha I was 1997-98 in my last years before university, back in the UK - I seem to remember Face-off being a big movie at the time haha. Obviously the other big issue was people coming back with the tapes in the wrong box.. or worse still putting their own tapes in there and you having to call them a leave a message on their answerphone! Even had someone put in their home movie once of a wedding haha..Look forward to seeing what you add to it after the jam! Really think you could be on to a winner, the idea's solid and the game looks really slick. Good luck! Cheers. Mike
LOL, yeah, I remember that too!
Thanks for your support!
yeah, that one about kids and horror was a pending i didn't manage to do it in tine, just as the upgrade system (the table with the newspaper have the script to do part of it)
Thanks for your comment
Great game with a brilliant opening! Love the mechanics and the art style but think that it would be nice if there was a bit of information about the controls at the beginning. Overrall a great game though!
Yes, was another "ToDo" item I couldn't find a moment to add it.
Thank you for your comment
I really like this! Not your fault, (well, maybe, but probably not) but WebGL is pretty laggy. I thought the idea was creative, and the artstyle was easy on the eyes, and the whole thing was well executed, great job! Here's mine, feel free to rate https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-4/rate/722098
Yes, that's why I put the Quality setting on the main menu. On Unity and under Windows had no issues. But had to struggle to upload the WebGL so everyone could play easilly. Lots of errors (completely unknown from me). But finally manage to upload just 1 hour after the deadline.
Really appreciate your comment. It was a hard week.
Just finish yours. Really funny. Would love to try more levels in the future.
haha nice
WebGL can be a bit of a hassle, once you've done it a couple times, it gets easier, no anti-aliasing, turn off auto webgl api, great job finishing!
Thanks for the tip. Will do on the update
awesome! great job!
