Love the aesthetic and the retro blockbuster vibes. Overall very polished game. The movie name puns were a nice touch!

Pretty interesting and simple game.

The good:

1. It ties to the theme well

2. Great art

3. Pretty calming music/audio

4. BlockBuster takes me back

What could be improved:

1. The camera sensitivity was a bit too fast that it hurt my eyes

2. Small bug, I dropped the tape and couldn't reach for it

3. Sometimes clicking on the tapes were difficult

4. I couldn't really distinguish the tapes quickly when they were put into the return box

5. A short tutorial can help as I was thrown into the game not understanding what to do

Overall, I had a fun experience with your game and your team did a great job in a week. Congrats on the jam!

Developer

Hey, glad you enjoyed the game nonetheless!

I hope you were able to find the settings menu from pause or the main menu!

Also, Please let me know what the "How to Play" screen didn't portray well! I always aim to improve my tutorials!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for the feedback! You can turn down the camera speed in the settings menu btw :)

pretty crazy that this was done in a week! feels very polished, very fun!

One of the best games i've played. Graphics are ok, and the overall feel is really good and chill.

The improvements i would do:

-In the menu, every screen is different. Would do all of them the same way so it feels more like 1 menu ( the one i like the most is the settings one with the "Old TV" vibe. Would do all of them similar to that one) :P

-The tapes are really difficult to distinguish sometimes, would put color on them or something to make each of them more unique

-Sometimes i didnt see a customer, doing the sound they do more listenable, or an arrow when they are out of screen that shows there is a costumer there would be fine in my opinion.

Congrats on the game, it is really good for being made in only a week!

Thanks for the feed back, I had thought about colored tapes at one point, but unfortunately could not, in good conscious, make the design decision with my color deficiency haha
I'm glad you enjoyed the game though!

Developer

Glad you liked it, thank you for the feedback!

Very nice game, with a simple yet engaging core mechanic.  The representation is really polished and having a "how to play" screen is always a plus.  Great Job!

Developer

Glad you got the right information from the How to Play screen! Let me know if something didn't make sense. I'm always looking to improve my tutorials!

Loved this little game; especially all the crazy movie titles. Would have been nice to make the tape types be better distinguishable in the regular WebGL build.

Developer(+1)

I was thinking colored tapes at one point, but me being color deficient couldn't make a design choice like that knowing there may be others like me haha. Glad you enjoyed it though!

Submitted

Yeah, that might have helped; colored tape + a less detailed shape on the table, but it worked and I had fun, so no worries :)

Very fun! Those tapes sure stacked up fast :D

Really well polished game, nice art style and animations, overall great game!

Developer

Apologies, I forgot to add animations to the exceptions list! I've updated that. We got our animations from Mixamo.com

We are glad you like the game though!

Eh, it doesn't really matter, it's a jam where you can use pre-made assets and you did, which any of us could have also done

Wow this feels so polished, every detail feels just right.    I especially like the different movie titles, it made me laugh,  Fast and furiously 44.  This game really gives me a papers please kinda vibe.

Developer

Glad to hear it! We enjoyed making the titles as much as people love reading them!

Nice work, we also did a video store sim if you want to check it out.

Haha, this one was a cute spin on the theme! The VHS reference crossed my mind early in the week, too. Your take on it is very well done! I like how the shelving and genre distinction affect the gameplay.

I miss Blockbuster. 😭 Aside from a couple bugs I noticed (losing VHS tapes on the ground and being asked for tapes I didn't have), I really liked this game! The concept was really cool, and I liked figuring out the most efficient way to organize the tapes. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Block buster was amazing! Glad you were able to figure out an efficient method of tape organization! You've met one of our goals we wanted during development!

Submitted(+1)

I love everything about this game! It's similar to the game I made. I had a lot of fun trying to manage all the tapes and keep customers happy

Submitted(+2)

I like the idea, and the execution is great as well. The game looks excellent and the audio after inserting and retrieving VHS tapes adds to the experience. I do think the player should have some freedom to move around their workspace, and dropping VHS tapes on the ground and not being able to pick them up is somewhat frustrating. In spite of this, I really enjoyed your submission! Great work!

Developer(+1)

I agree with you, that was unfortunately something I forgot to change. I was either going to increase to lower limit view, or make the tape drop into the drop box if it fell.

We're glad you enjoyed the game nevertheless!

Nice I like it ha its funny how we came up with similar ideas and yet they are all different from each other I really liked your menu and cinematic camera that was real nice

Developer

Thanks, I was actually surprised when our 3D artist (Hipster) said they would rig up some camera work. They apparently have background in cinema! It was really awesome to experience!
